Curses, my VCR screwed up and didn't tape it . On the other hand, I got to see some cool anime shows.

At least those of us who missed it (for whatever reason) will soon get a second chance to see the Great Pumpkin; he won this week's Delaney Sketch poll.

I'm most interested in seeing how closely John's version of the GP will resemble what I've imagined.

To the person who asked if there was a second part to "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown": officially, no. As a running gag in the Peanuts comic strips, yes. In fact, the Great Pumpkin idea pre-dates this TV special, but it was the show that put it into the realms of being a pop-culture signpost. In 1985, on "The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show" there was a Great Pumpkin sequence about Charlie Brown, Pepermint Patty and Marcie going bowling in a Halloween kids' tournament, while Linus, Snoopy and Sally (she doesn't learn, does she?) wait in the pumpkin patch for the G.P.
    Spoiler:
Charlie Brown would have won the tournament, but he got nervous, and threw the ball out the front door. Linus, Snoopy and Sally got hit by the ball, and Linus thought it was the Great Pumpkin. Sally: "You mean I gave up Tricks or Treats to be a bowling pin?!?"

I dont think it has aired anywhere since Nickelodeon stopped showing all of the Charlie Brown TV shows and specials, but all 18 episodes of "The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show" were released on nine VHS tapes with two episodes per tape by Paramount. These may still be collecting dust in some video stores somewhere, as TCBASS wasn't really all that popular or as well known as some of the specials. Bill Melendez and Charles M. Schulz were used to doing one or two shows a year, and in 1983, found themselves struggling with the hectic production schedule of 13 22 minute shows, plus "What Have We Learned, Charlie Brown?" and "Is This Goodbye, Charlie Brown?" as well. Schulz himself said about the show, "We didn't have the time to do it right". There were no new episodes of this series in 1984, and the 1985 season was only 5 episodes long.
