    Newbie Questions

I'm a 45 year old fan who is renewing my love of cartoons. I've been taping Daffy and Bugs
along with Tom and Jerry. Those an the old Donald Duck classics are the type of material I
enjoy. Any other toon recommendations that members could make that I might enjoy based
    on this? Thanks.

Popeye classics are supposed to be airing on Adult Swim soon, you should check out the listings for airdates, times, etc. over on that board.

Toon heads often features old classics.. you'll have to check your local listings for that as well.
Current anime favs: TM! Ryo-ohki 3rd oav series, RoD tv, Azumanga Daioh

Actually "The Popeye Show", which shows the old Fleischer and Famous Studios Popeye shorts, airs on Cartoon Network Sundays at 9:30 PM (at least it did last week). That whole 2 hours before Adult Swim Comedy has the classics with some historical comentary.

    IIRC, the lineup is:

    8:00 The Chuck Jones Show
    8:30 The Tex Avery Show
    9:00 Toon Heads
    9:30 The Popeye Show

There are also other classic cartoon blocks, including Bugs and Daffy, Tom and Jerry, and the Acme Hour, but I can't remember their scheduled times.

While I know you love the classics, please give the modern stuff (particularly the Cartoon Cartoons and Adult Swim shows) a chance. It may be hard to see past the technical production differences in the animation, but the writing is excelent nowadays, especially after the horrors of most of the '70s and '80s.

My apologies if this seemed a bit Cartoon Network-centric, but I don't watch the other cartoon oriented channels much.

Unfortunately, they don't really make cartoons like they used to... not making a value judgement here, saying that new cartoons are better or worse than old ones, just that nobody nowadays is really making animated shorts in the style of the old ones any more.

But there are still some gems out there that you might enjoy. You seem more into comedy than action, so you might like some of the Cartoon Cartoons... can't really give any better advice than that. I could list all my personal favorite cartoons, but that would be pointless because there's no guarantee that you'll like the same things that I like. So just keep an open mind and see what's out there, and remember, Cartoon Network rules!

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I've been watching a variety of
newer stuff as well. I've been happy with shows like "Courage the Cowardly Dog"
and "Justice League" as well. I can see that there is some quality new stuff out
there. The decade of the 70's probably sent me away from toons for years!
