    In Memoriam: IWAO TAKAMOTO (1925-2007)

    Like This Thread!
Hanna-Barbera animator/producer/creative producer/director Iwao Takamoto, instrumental in directing numerous Disney and H-B projects and cocreating the character Scooby-Doo, has passed, not long after Joe Barbera's demise. Yahoo! News has an obituary.

    To absent friends...

    I just realized something.

In less than a year, we lost Alex Toth (creator of Space Ghost and designer of Super Friends), Ed Benedict (designer of Fred Flintstone), Joseph Barbera (the other half of Hanna-Barbera), and now Iwao Takamoto (designer of Scooby-Doo and Astro). Four of the architects of Hanna-Barbera are now with the stars.

And on that note, I also caught this in the TZ News byte:

(Takamoto) helped design many of the characters in the current series "Krypto the Superdog."
THAT explains so much why I get a Hanna-Barbera vibe everytime I watch this underrated show.

    Rest in peace Takamoto-san.
What does the X stand for? It's definitely not Extreme. Extreme starts with E.

We still have June Foray, but....that's about it.

Sounds like Takamoto was working up to the very end. Good for him.

His designs gave part of the inspiration to the 'toons of the late ninties to today. It's great that he was working until his death on Krypto the Superdog, doing what he loved. We'll miss you, Takamoto-san.

Well, the guys who made Hanna-Barbera the way it was are now history. Hanna, Barbera, and Takamoto. With the latter two working all the way into the sunset. Man, this has got to be a weird thing for Barbera and Takamoto to die within weeks of each other. May Takamoto-san rest in peace.

Saw the news this morning on the FOX NEWS CHANNEL.....

I kinda sorta hoped that he would been around a little bit longer to maybe share some anecdotes and remembrances of working with BILL, JOE, & Co. ....

But it was not to be....

IWAO TAKAMOTO, we'll all MISS you!

What's happening?! This completely caught me off guard because the one time when I happen to turn on the Today Show and it comes up. Talk about coincidence.

This is indeed very sad news. The greatest people from Hanna-Barbera are almost all gone.

R.I.P. Mr. Takamoto. You will be greatly missed.
