What exactly was wrong with these episodes?
There is some news coming from CN on one of their classic cartoon shows, "The Popeye Show".A man that works on the program has issued a statement that episodes 10 & 11 have run into problems with the tv censors surrounding two shorts, "Popeye The Sailor"(episode 10) and "Happy Birthdaze" (episode 11) that the censors are having problems with.
If you have not seen the show yet, the program(like the Bob Clampett Show)airs the cartoons totally uncut! and this from what the producer said that they are doing their best to present each cartoon unedited and are still sticking to their plan. despite what is being censored on the show.

"For with thee is the fountain of life: In thy light shall we see light" -Psalm 39:6
My guess it could be racial stereotypes in the two cartoons

Yah, I can see that. They wound having to do that with some Looney Toons episodes as well

I have always had a problem with the Popeye cartoons bc they portray rape scenes in almost every one (Bluto always forces himself on Olive Oyl) and that alone doesn't seem right
The producer of the show (who occassionally posts at the TTTP) said that the two episodes contain "Popeye the Sailor" and "Happy Birthdaze". The thing is, is that he's trying to play the shows, with the cartoons UNCUT. Both cartoons have aired before on CN, but have been edited. "Popeye the Sailor" has Popeye and Bluto throwing balls at a target, which is a black man, and "Happy Birthdaze" has Popeye's short lived sidekick Shorty try to commit suicide several times, and has Popeye shooting him in the end!
Fun Fact: Did you know that "Popeye the Sailor" is really a Betty Boop cartoon?

If evolution happened, then why are there still monkeys?
> "Popeye the Sailor" has Popeye and Bluto throwing balls at a target, which is a black man... <
Ew boy. I *would* have a problem with anybody showing *that* to children.
If the producer really is keen on broadcasting this uncut, maybe he should consider showing it at a late hour, preferably w/ comentary included.

I think they do show it after midnight, which, considering the material, is probably a wise decision.

You read it... you can't un-read it!
Old thread, and the topic is no longer relevant. Closed.
