While I enjoy the older H-B titles along with classic MGM, Warners and Popeye cartoons, Boomerang has stuck with this programming for over 5 years. Remember that last year Boomerang showed the same 8 hours of programming three times during a day. So as long as you get 8 hours of "Boomerang" shows, it's just like the good old days. And you should write the folks connected to Boomerang and remind them that you subscribe to the channel because it's supposed to provide us with these cartoons. But don't expect Boomerang to always be a time capsule.
What's CN supposed to do with their shows that no longer run on their channel? Sure you'll be quick to propose a third channel for these cartoons, but it's taken this long for Boomerang to get barely a sixth of the homes that get CN.
I just hope WHV keeps putting out more H-B titles so i won't care what happens on Boomerang.
I never thought it was great having the same 8 hour block repeated three times a day. I don't think Boomerang has ever lived up to it's true potential.Originally posted by JCorey3rd So as long as you get 8 hours of "Boomerang" shows, it's just like the good old days.
I do expect it to always be a time capsule, if that is what it promotes itself to be. If they want to be another tiny tot channel or Cartoon Network II, they should just do it in one fell swoop. They're trying to have it both ways.Originally posted by JCorey3rd But don't expect Boomerang to always be a time capsule.
When a CN show gets pulled, it should stay pulled, at least until enough fans demand that the CN show be put back on CN. I wouldn't propose a third channel. I think two channels could cover the full gamut of classic and current animation nicely, if the people who were in charge of programming had any idea how to program. I also think Boomerang could get into more homes if executives didn't dilute it's effectiveness by trying to make it be three networks at once. It's a very schizophrenic channel right now. By the way, Boomerang did, in fact, just receive a bigger distribution deal:Originally posted by JCorey3rd What's CN supposed to do with their shows that no longer run on their channel? Time Warner to offer "family-friendly" package
Thu Dec 15, 2005 01:18 PM ET
WASHINGTON, Dec 15 (Reuters) - Time Warner Cable, the No. 2 U.S. cable company, said on Thursday it will offer a "family-friendly" package of 15 digital cable channels starting in the first quarter of 2006, bowing to pressure from lawmakers, regulators and parents groups.
"We selected channels that were G-rated in nature, did not include 'live' entertainment programming and which contained content that was generally perceived as acceptable for the entire family to view," said Glenn Britt, chairman and chief executive of Time Warner Cable, a unit of Time Warner Inc.
The package will include Boomerang, C-SPAN 2, C-SPAN 3, CNN Headline News, The Science Channel, Discovery Kids, Disney Channel, DIY Network, FIT-TV, Food Network, HGTV, La Familia, Nick Games & Sports, The Weather Channel and Toon Disney, the company said in a statement.
I hope they keep releasing new titles too, but I'll still keep fighting to keep classic cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny and Yogi Bear on the airwaves for maximum exposure.Originally posted by JCorey3rd I just hope WHV keeps putting out more H-B titles so i won't care what happens on Boomerang.
Cartoons that leave CN are probably never going to return to CN because it's competing with Nick in both viewership and merchandise sales. CN is still hungry for a Spongebob or Fairly Odd Parents. They're dumping shows that aren't producing onto Boomerang.
And with local broadcasters relucatant to run animated kid shows during the afternoons, these shows have no real shelf life once they leave CN or Nick's regular schedule.
If anything Boomerang getting lumped into the Family Package will give the programmers more incentive to run recent CN shows that no longer pull in the ratings that CN desires. Boomerang runs because it doesn't have to pay a fortune for its programming. TBS probably pays more in fees for a single episode of Seinfeld than Boomerang does for a month's worth of shows.
Cable channels change and adapt. AMC no longer cares about running classics. TBS no longer runs wrestling. ESPN does drama. Noggin is a junk drawer for Disney. MTV2 lost it's charm. VH1Classic now has ads and doesn't show the obscure videos it did 2 years ago. And Trio is dead.
Just remember that if you really enjoy something on TV - set the VCR (or DVD-R) so it'll be in the collection.
It is funny that CSPAN if listed as family friendly because I can not imagine another channel that would scare children more than Congressmen babbling.
That's for sure.Originally Posted by JCorey3rd
