Perhaps this should go in the third PPG thread since Brainatra satrized that a certain 60's space age cartoon star had little to do...or does he? Here's a link to the story since apperantly I can't copy and paste it like normal.

My two cents: don't know enough about the film, but after the two live-action "Flintstones" movies, I have serious doubts about a live-action "Jetsons" film being overly entertaining...

What off-the-wall casting do they have planned? Knowing this stuff...here's my wild shots at the casting of this "opus". (Odd, you say? Remember, these Hollywood "geniuses", and I use the term loosely, cast the chubby Rosie O'Donnell in the role of the svelte Betty Rubble in the first "Flintstones" flick)...

-George Jetson-played by Matthew Broderick
-Jane Jetson-played by Sarah Jessica Parker
-Elroy-played by Haley Joel Osment
-Judy-played by Mandy Moore
-Mr. Spacely-played by Dabney Coleman
-Rosie-will end up computer-animated and voiced ideally by Tress MacNeille, but more likely by someone like Doris Roberts
-Judy's diary (at least I think that's what it was. It was in a few of the later episodes)-voiced by Joan Rivers (that was the kind of voice used on the show. Obligatory "Spaceballs" refs will be included)
-Astro (almost forgot him)-Once again, computer-animated, with archival sound clips from the show.

Soundtrack features teen popsters, a modern rocker or two and "Weird Al" Yankovic with his own wacky interpretation of the theme song.

While Dabney Coleman is certainly good at playing characters with Mr. Spacely's disposition, he's overly tall for the role. My first choice would be Danny DeVito.

Carefull there CC, you could be tapping into the same mystical powers that Brainatra sometimes uses for seeing the future with chilling accuracy... Be afraid. Be very afraid. ;-)

Wonder how long until we see a Roman Holidays movie?

(For those of you who don't know, it was a spin on the '60s family in a different era' - in this case, Ancient Rome. CN showed it some years back)

Re: The Jetsons movie casting: I make no predictons on this one (besides concurring that Rosie/Astro will likely be CGI-animated)....the mere fact that someone thinks the Jetsons would merit a live-action film treatment (on the heels of the likes of the two "Flintstones" live-action films) is still astounding me....

Re: the "Roman Holidays": I remember seeing this show back in the 80's, when the cable channel USA ran various 70's-era Hanna-Barbara series, and this was one of them. Produced in the early 70's (IIRC) by H-B, it was as Rockit inferred, a variation on the Flintstones/Jetsons theme of a 20th century family living in a different time era, in this case ancient Rome. The Holiday family consisted of the father (who worked as an architect IIRC), who commuted to work in a chariot every day, a homemaker mother, a teenaged son (with a bit of "groovy" 70's-ness to him), a young daughter, and a pet lion. Plots revolved mainly around the father's job, something the kids did, and (especially) dealing with their landlord Mr. Evictus (get it?), who kept threatening to evict the Holidays if he caught them with any pets (he apparently was a ancient Rome-era version/ancestor of Mr. Spacely). We also got the usual Flintstones/Jetsons-style technology gags, transplanted to an ancient Rome setting: the Leaning Tower of Pisa was a pizza joint (and actually there despite being built IIRC in the 1500's), TV sets had Roman numerals on the dials for the channel numbers (and Roman numerals everywhere else was a running gag on the show), and camera flashes resembled miniature volcanos erupting (presumably a Pompeii reference). Said show presumably had a pretty short life span (a few seasons I think).

As for a movie version, I'd say: *no*.
