1997 "Speed Racer" Series on Nickelodeon

    Like This Thread!
Okay, after speaking we Speed Racer Enterprises (the company who owns the rights to the series), I have confirmed that the 1997 "Speed Racer" series will air on Nickelodeon. In addition, Nickelodeon sent us a press release. For images and more, click here.

I can't wait to see this series. Maybe it will be...gasp...watchable! BTW, has anyone seen the 1997 series maybe subbed or whatever? If so, how was it?

I recall a series from the '90s that was animated in Ireland. It was not watchable.

To quote Drake from "Mac Hall": "Sheeeeeeeet..." This is NOT good. I can just see it now, the opening with those cute voices singing "Go, Speed Racer, go!" and that nasty Nickelodeon orange plastered EVERYWHERE. Don't give me that look. They did it to Tiny Toons. They did it to Animaniacs. They did it to Pinky and the Brain. They'll do it to Speed Racer. And they'll probably add a segment to their Nicktoons site claiming it as a Nicktoon like they did with those three too.

This series is from Japan, though. I believe you might be referring to the earlier nineties version of "Speed Racer," which, IIRC, aired on CBS.

I thought this was refering to the "new Speed Racer" show that came here a few years ago. It definetly wasn't anime, like the older series. So your telling me that there's a new series that came out in Japan despite the original show ? Sweet.

I think there was A new Speed Racer series from Japan in the late 90's. It was going to come over here, but never saw the light of day. It's nothing like that other Speed Racer series that Fred Wolf (of Ninja Turtles fame.) did in the early 90's. (That one was pretty bad from whay I remember.) I imagin this Speed Racer series will be part of Nickelodeon's new action block, SLAM.

Yep, it is not the crappy one that aired in the United States around 1993. This is a series which hasn't even aired in America yet.

    Let me get this straight...

A new anime series that has yet to be seen in the United States will be priemering for the first time on Nickelodeon.

    You said it

I remember Nick saying they would never broadcast an anime after the deal to broadcast Rayearth fell apart due to Nick wanting to edit the hell out of it, and then the Toonami explosion came, at which point, they started dropping the toons and becoming more girl-oriented, with a few exceptions.
Yup. It's a signature. Go away if you're expecting something interesting here.

I agree. I hated when they did that. They also did it to Looney Tunes and Bullwinkle when they used to air them. Stupid Nick..
I guess this means that we'll be seeing Jimmy's ugly CGI face pop
into all the different Nick shows like he's the all-important god of the
    network. God, I hate Nick.

Well, hopefully, they don't edit the heck out this new speed racer series, but it they do have to make some edits, I hope they try and do redubs and digital repaints rather than hacking scenes to bits.

How long is this series, btw?

    NICK IS GETTING ANIME NOW!?
    AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

If Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, and Tiny Toons is any indication, that dirty orange logo will be rubbed in our faces yet again.
I bet you anything that, in the theme song, the car door is going to say NICKELODEON, the spectators will have big orange flags, and all the racing helmits will say NICK!!
ARG!! How could this network sink this low in such a short amount of time?

I actually saw an episode of this a while ago! Really enjoyed it. But very few episodes were made of this series. The nostalgia for Speed Racer, (or Mach Go Go Go in Japan.) isn't nearly as high as it is in the U.S. Natsutoko productions made this with the U.S. broadcasting in mind, but when copyright issues started to get out of hand in the late nineties, they shelved the series.
