Hey Arnold not doing well in early numbers.

    Like This Thread!
[indent]The early numbers on Fridays box office are in and Arnold is currently debuting at #6. It may end up higher since the Friday numbers tend to multiply to a higher total for family films, but it may already be too far behind The Bourne Identity. I'm going to guess He Arnold ends up at about 7 to 8 million for the weekend. Although it is neck and neck Lilo & Stitch is currently ahead of Minority Report this weekend. Both look to drop about 30-40% from last weekend, an average amount, but definitely respectable for a large opener. At least Adam Sandler fans can take comfort in knowing it looks like he has recovered quite nicely from Little Nicky. The numbers from a source at the Hollywood Stock Exchange:

    MR. DEEDS 14.435
    LILO & STITCH 6.660
    MINORITY REPORT 6.528
    SCOOBY-DOO 3.738
    THE BOURNE IDENTITY 3.179
    HEY! ARNOLD 2.038
THE SUM OF ALL FEARS 1.391
    DIVIVE SECRETS... 1.267
    WINDTALKERS .935
    STAR WARS .928

Can't say I'm really surprised. This is definatly a movie that only fans of the show will be going to see. And, even then, many have said that the basic plot looks like something we'd see in the show, which takes a little away from the excitement. But, according to the IMDB, it only cost 3 million to produce the movie, so it'll make back its money by the end of its run.

re: "Hey Arnold does poor numbers"

J.C.'s right, as long as it appeals to the fans, it's done it's job.

I think they should have ran with the script for the second Movie and released it first. If this movie doesn't do well the second one won't get made so I'm praying it does.

I dunno who thought an Hey Arnold Movie would do well with so many blockbusters coming up in a row.

I would have held off with releasing this flick if I were Nick.. MiB 2,Scooby Doo, Mr. Deeds, Minority report, Power Puff Girls, B.I. Sum of all Fears.. Are all films everyone are/was looking forward too and to release a Hey Arnold Movie in the midst of this was stupid.

It's a good show but it's not really strong enough to take on these kind of films, by next week it won't even be on the top 10.

I don't see why you needed to say that. It wouldn't have taken a rocket scientist to understand what I was saying. My space bar gets stuck sometimes, sorry to the other people it may have confused.

Keep in mind that this movie was made to be a Nick Flick shown TV (ala the "Catdog" movie). Nick saw how well "Recess: School's Out" did in the theaters and decided to take their chances. I've heard rumors that 15 minutes was added for the theatrical release. (I'm guessing the scene with Bridget was one of them.)

Doesn't surprise me that HEY ARNOLD! is going this way, mind you that I did like watching the show and was a fan early on (later went on but recently re-watched the re-runs and the show still is good) but to be honest, Nick didn't exactly promote the movie and even if they did, it wouldn't have worked cause Hey Arnold! just never had the run-away popularity that Rugrats did. Part of me feels they should have just released this movie straight to video.

As someone who wasn't a fan of these Klasky-Csupo shows for the most part, Simpsons included (bart really grates on my nerves), I wished Ren and Stimpy had stayed with Nick instead of going off. (oh well, TNN has it sheduled for 2003, in adult time, uncesnored in NEW episodes by John Kricfalusi! Smile when ya say that name boy!)

And IF the 2003 R&S revival proveth succesfull..

    PARAMOUNT PCITURES AND NICKELODEON MOVIES..
    in assoication with TNN
    and SPUMCO
    present
    REN AND STIMPY

(like THAT's happen, no so than an INVADER ZIM movie )

While there's no Invader Zim on the horizon, I hear talks that yes John K will be doing a Ren & Stimpy movie, though whether for prime-time or for the big screen, I don't know (I think it'll be the premiere two-hour episode on TNN).

Why am I not surprised that Hey Arnold! got left at the gate?

Besides, I think the kids (and maybe their parents) are saving their money for the REAL Animation Summer Event of the Year:

I'm not gonna see Hey Arnold! anyways, but personally I'm a bit surprised at the low numbers for it. I guess it has more of a "niche" audience than Rugrats, for example. Also, it has "Lilo and Stitch" as competition, so that doesn't help (nice to see that movie doing well, BTW; it's good for 2D animation ).

I wonder how the Powerpuff Girls movie will do now. :/

[indent]For one thing the promotion for the PPG movie has been a lot better than Hey Arnold. The couple of commercials HA had were decent and they were run a lot, but that was about it. (Granted, I don't know how promotion has been on Nick) Cartoon Network on the other hand has been going all out in promoting their movie. Besides having PPG on Kids WB and in almost every major period of time during the day (mornings, Toonami, Primetime, overnight, etc.) for the past month, there have been tons of promos. It isn't just the amount they have been showing the promos however, I don't think I have ever seen a movie with this sheer number of different promos. For awhile it seemed like everyday I was catching a new PPG promo recently. They are doing a variety of things with these also including promoting the movie, the show in general, new music videos, official Warner Bros. produced promos (i.e. the ones that also run on other networks), and now even Adult Swim specific promos. They have completely saturated their target market.

i'm not that surprised either espcially sinse the actual movie was ment to be a made for TV one spread over 3 episodes

If this movie doesn't do well the second one won't get made so I'm praying it does.
i really hope so too doubt it though.. its like Nick wanted this movie to flop anyway, sinse they gave away major storylines in the trailer

I just saw Hey Arnold the Movie today I was a 50% dissapointed cause they should of just made it as a T.V. movie . It was just another regular Arnold show just on the big screen. I knew I should of saw Lilo and Stitch.

I don't know why you guys are so pissed off and disappointed about about this. The only reason this movie didn't do well is because IT WAS MADE FOR DIEHARD FANS AND DIEHARD FANS ONLY! If you're not a fan, you'll hate this movie. It's as easy as that. It's not because external things like this:

Besides, I think the kids (and maybe their parents) are saving their money for the REAL Animation Summer Event of the Year:

    "The Powerpuff Girls Movie!"
    or this:

Hey Arnold! The Movie flopped at the box office?! Good.

This is evidence enough to prove that Nickelodeon finally realizes that they've lost their fanbase years ago. They should've known years ago due to large dropping ratings, but they're so blind they can't even think straight.

Well, I hope THIS opens their eyes a bit...
That type of logic is not thought out and just dumb in my opinion. I thought we above that sort of pettiness here.

    Re: HEY ARNOLD! THE MOVIE

Well, I'm a die-hard fan of HEY ARNOLD! and used to be really big into the cartoon when it was on. Recently saw some re-runs and they held up so I was eager to see the movie. Saw it along with MR. DEEDS, LILO & STICH and SCOOBY DOO.
This is a movie that will mainly appeal to fans but also feels like an episode of the TV show done for the big screen but misses much of the show's humor and appeal. There were flashes of it here and there (Bridget's scenes, Big Bob turning into the Hulk) but I felt the other supporting kids should have gotten more screentime, honestly Eugene's song routine was I think as some film critic reviewing the film pointed out, the best part of the film.
Plus the whole Helga's revelation of Arnold's love fell flat, it wasn't funny or dramatic, lacked the importance value to it. What it showed if anything else that ain't no way Arnold and Helga are going to be together. Arnold just isn't ready for romance and Helga is too-eager for it.
So HEY ARNOLD! THE MOVIE is okay, it's nice to watch and it's got a few parts that are really good but I felt the TV show deserved a better big-screen vehicle than this.
Besides, maybe I'm just idiotic (as some people have said regarding my comments about the movie) for expecting something from a movie based on animated cartoon like this.
