Wow, the Ginyu Force is arriving today?

This should be quite the day for discussion in the Dragonball commmunity.

    Zack and Zeke

It's kind of like ET, if you take out all of the emotion and turn it into a silly webcomic that's updated on Tuesdays and Thursdays

I'm kinda glad that the show is only on twice a week now. It'll help the dub get ahead a bit.

The dub must be slowing down to give Funi more time to dub more episodes. If we kept doing 4 episodes a week the show might go on hiatus.

I say Funi is around or past episode 50 in dubbing right now.

What's with Goku's comment that he could definitely handle 9x or 10x Kaioken? Was that old DBZ filler where he fires a 20x Kamehameha to save his ship just mistranslated or not canon?

I like the bit where Vegeta thinks Goku is in Guru's house, only to be confronted by Gohan. Yep, lots of crazy growth in this arc.

I'm hoping that goofy song stays for the Ginyu Force introduction.
I would suggest that it's not the medium, but the quality of perception and expression, that determines the significance of art. But what would a cartoonist know? -Bill Watterson

    Burter
    Ginyu
    Guldo

You got the names all wrong.

I'm sort of disappointed that all of the recasts are Funi actors. It said the Ginyu force would be voiced by an all star cast, so I expected non-Funi actors.

Not if you read FUNimation's subtitles.

They used the same term for Onec Piece and Fullmetal Alchemist. It's really just marketing lingo for building hype.

Ha! They dubbed the Ginyu song. Badass.

Again, loving the politics of this arc. New baddies come and now Krillin and Gohan gather up the Dragon Balls for Vegeta! WHAT!? It's like... whoa!

I know it's completely unfair to judge the voices on 2 or 3 words, but it sounds like the Ginyu Force have even goofier voices than before.

But hey, at least they probably don't have silly accents, right? =) Right...?

    I'll miss Australian Jeice... =(

The credits that aired on Nicktoons TV this evening were correct. Maybe the online credits were wrong.

Recoome sounds less goofy, and I really like Bruce Elliot's Ginyu. I was sad when I heard Brice Armstrong wouldn't be reprising the role, but Bruce Elliot actually sounds a bit smoother and more natural.

Uh, no it's canon. Goku is saying that thanks to the training he went through NOW he can do a 9X or 10X times Kaioken, when before he couldn't even handle a 4 times Kaio Ken. The "20 times kaio ken" was a bad filler flub but it has nothing to do with this since Goku isn't talking about doing a 9 or 10times kaio ken before but being able to do one now.

    Spoiler:
I think it was stated that Goku's power level when he arrives on Namek is 180,000 regular. And with 10X KaioKen he'd be 1,800,000. When he rejunivates after the Ginyu battle his regular is 300,000, and he is able to get up to 3 Million using Kaio Ken X 10 spurts. King Kai explans during his fight with Freiza Goku is able to use these spurts at a level where no one can really see him do it but even Times 10 isn't enough to hurt Freiza. As even a X20 Kaio Ken Goku is 6 million, which is only around Freiza's 50 Percent maximum.

Getting past the casting this is actually a very well paced episode in the original and it translates well into Kai. I always did feel they sort of rushed the whole "Vegeta, Gohan and Krillin work together to gather the Dragon Balls" twist but I guess it makes sense considering it was just a last resort. Sort of a shame we never got to see Nail smack around Vegeta though considering at this point at full power he could of. Then again probably wouldn't do it around the Great Elder's house. I also liked the English Ginyu force theme. I really don't know why people are really concerned about the Ginyu Force's voices though: I mean

    Spoiler:
In Kai they don't even last till episode 35

So we won't be hearing them for that long. And for that matter we just heard them say they're names and pose and didn't really get a sampling on they're voices. So I really don't think they'll wind up being that bad.
Instead of just using this new signature to celebrate a thousand more post, let me list of all the great things you can expect of me on this board for 2012:

...... The same talkbacks you saw me do last year but with new episodes.

.... What are you doing still reading this? Move to the next post already! .

In Dragon Ball Z #50, Gokű uses a Kamehame-Ha and a 'full power' Kamehame-Ha. In FUNimation's first dub (the 'Ocean dub', episode #38 "A Collision Course", Peter Kelamis' Gokű says 'Keiô-ken times ten' and 'times twenty' errorneously...not once does he say 'Kamehame-Ha').

Also, you've got your numbers mixed up a bit (these are common mistakes amongst the more casual fans so don't fret, yo!):

    Spoiler:
Gokű does say he now thinks he can handle a Ten-Times Kaiô-ken at this point. Against Ginyű he uses a regular/two-times Kaiô-ken, which doubles his power and speed. Since the figure of 180,000 is while he is using the Kaiô-ken his battle power without the Kaiô-ken is 90,000. This is why Gokű couldn't break out of Ginyű's grip (and why he thinks to himself he has to use the Kaiô-ken) when Ginyű had captured him.

Against Freeza Son Gokű's normal battle power peaked at three million. Not three hundred thousand. Three million. Using the twenty-times Kaiô-ken he hit sixty million. Freeza, who at the timec was using half of his power, was of course at sixty million himself. As a Super Saiyan Gokű topped at one hundred fifty million (150,000,000). At one hundred perfect power, Freeza tapped out at one hundred twenty million. Not fifteen million, not twelve million. From Kanzentai's battle power guide:

Daizenshuu 7's battle powers for both Freeza's full power and Super Saiyan Goku are commonly said to be only 12 and 15 million, respectively, while normal Goku is given as 300,000 and Freeza at 50% as 6 million. This misconception most likely traces back to the Ultimate DBZ Information Site, a very influential English DragonBall fan site in the 90s that was run by Greg Werner. On the "Little Known Dragon Ball Z Facts" page, item 26 provides a list of all battle powers from the manga or daizenshuu, and it gives these numbers for Goku and Freeza.

Werner prided himself on creating all of his site's content, and much of his site consisted of things he took from Daizenshuu 7, so it's unlikely that he relied on someone else to make his list. Countless other fan sites relied on Werner's site for information (and often flat-out stole his content), so this mistranslation spread throughout the English-speaking DragonBall fan community. In particular, the popular site Planet Namek also used 12 and 15 million in their power levels list, color-coding them as being from the daizenshuu. It is possible that SkullMac, the man responsible for maintaining Planet Namek's power list, made the same translation mistake as Werner, but it's more likely that he relied upon Werner's site for these numbers.

At any rate, how would someone mistranslate these numbers? Well, this is the way those battle powers are written in Daizenshuu 7:

    Goku: 300万
    Super Saiyan Goku: 1億5000万
    Freeza 50%: 6000万
    Freeza 100%: 1 億2000万

"万" (man) is the kanji for 10 thousand, while "億" (oku) represents 100 million. So if you do the math, "300 man" is 3 million and "1 oku, 5 thousand man" is 150 million. But it's easy to see how someone not too experienced with the Japanese number system could make a mistake converting them, especially since all the previous battle powers in this section of Daizenshuu 7 are written purely in Arabic numerals, with no kanji or mathematical conversion required. For additional information on the Japanese number system, view the "Battle Powers in the manga" page.

This sort of 'spoils' information about the end of the arc...but it's hard to imagine nobody knows how it is going to end.
