THIS is why Invader Zim's getting cancelled...
-
I can't believe how idiotic some execs can be, and how impressionable he things every child must be. I know when I watch Invader Zim, I'm not tempted to pick up a rifle, climb to the top of the silo, and pick off every cow in my farm. This is just ridiculous!!!

Well, that's what Nick is saying about why they're cancelling it. I think it's probably because of the unionizing going on. That's why they fired Micah Right, who was working on Constant Payne. IMO they're just saying that so people don't accuse them of doing anything illegal, which is going to happen anyways. Wright details the reasons behind his being fired at http://members.aol.com/cancerous/miwfaq.html

Yet another punch line for the execs are dumb genre
If it really is true that a reason for Zim's doom is they think children will kill someone, well see the title of this post as an answer. Though admittingly some stuff on that show is riske{having a child's eyes popped out and having Zim kidnapp human organs for example}and I suppose the plot of an alien trying to destroy humanity might get some people upset after the attacks{hey, people will get upset for any reason at all no matter what}that's no reason to get rid of it. This I will blame on Nickalodeon itself, all the other networks don't mind violence and some darkness, even WB doesn't cancel shows for that and certainly Cartoon Network doesn't. Nick seems to be the only major cartoon channel content to mainly show family friendly programs all the time, even though they pretty much show one of them almost 24/7, and we all know which one. But I would assume they wouldn't have a problem with a dark show if Klasky Cuspo did it, and the day an alien does conquer Earth is the day that will happen.

I personally don't care for the show. The only things I watch on Nick are Ren and Stimpy, Rocko, and SpongeBob.

Re: Yet another punch line for the execs are dumb genre
While I am not a regular viewer of ZIMmie, I had a nagging feeling that the show would get the ax in light of the events of 9/11.
Some people right now (especially these exec types) would much rather see a show about the boy who saves the world ("Jimmy Neutron") rather than one about the boy who wants to enslave it (ZIMmie).
Pass me the can of "Carvel Brown Bonnet Coating," someone?

That is kinda a bad reason. No other network canceled a show because of Sept 11. They only postponed showing them temporeily.

I've also read that Nick cited low ratings.

Big Brother Nick cites poor ratings -- and I don't want to get into a long and painful discussion over the many and complicated factors that go into these decisions. But suffice to say for the moment Operation Impending Doom II is dead in the water.
I suppose the good news for the loyal ZIM folk out there is that there still will be 16 new half-hours coming down the line starting in March. The faithful have many, many fine episodes to look forward to in the weeks ahead. And if we're lucky we'll even get to squeeze out a Christmas special.
Yay. Uh-huh. Yay.
I'll keep you up to date with more info as it becomes available.
Right now I don't know what to think. I never watched Zim, but this just ticks me off. I've been mad at Nick ever since they fired Spumco from Ren & Stimpy.

I saw this coming. I love the show and just about everything the creator ever did, mostly comic books with titles like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Squee, to give you an idea.
I was extremely skeptical when I first saw this on Nick. This isn't a show for little kids and I don't think it really belongs in the lineup. Guess the suits finally figured that out too. Oh well. It was nice while it lasted. . .
-
I was only lucky enough to see 3 episodes - loved every minute of them.
This is a series I'll certainly be trying to do some tape-swapping for when I come off the road this summer.
-
oh boy where to start. I HATE NICK!!!!!! Well those are all incredibly stupid reasons and zim had a huge following so dont give me this ratings garbage. I dont know anyone who became homosidal from watching zim. If you do then more power to ya. Further more i beleive it was just more of a "We dont like this show its not for 2 year olds lets cancel it" thing from nick. Theres a potition that i recomend everyone sign over on the news board.
I can not express my anger in words. grrrrrrr lol
Lastly yes one other show was canceled to do 9 11 it was mobile suit although there ar roomers of its return in the air suppoedly we will learn the fu.ll details next month.

Okay, I know this post is old, but..
Let me get a couple of things clear.
Micah Wright is NOT a writer for Invader Zim. Micah isn't even allowed in the freakin' building, let alone would he be anywhere near the studio to find out how Zim was cancelled.
There's no conspiracy about this. Nick shortened the episode order because it costs $1 million per episode to produce, and because of new shows like Danny Phantom(however, this one is really good, trust me), Jimmy Neutron: The Series, and the upcoming Jimmy Neutron sequel, they would rather pay $26 million for a show, than $40+ million.
It didn't help that Zim dipped in the ratings since the summer, because of people watching Zim on their computers instead of on TV and the lack of new episodes. Noone can really blame each other for that. Korea was busy on the episodes, so you COULD blame them, but the american team took just as long to finish certain episodes, so you could blame them too. Or you could blame Nickelodeon, who should've given the show more time to finish the episodes in the first place.
But that's the true story. Low ratings, high expenses. There wasn't a fight between Jhonen and Nick, Nickelodeon doesn't "hate" Invader Zim. They're just approaching the show like any idiot business exec would.
There were some things that Nick didn't like, like Dib, or the fact that some episodes took place in outer space and not so much at the skool, but they don't really factor in. Outside of Jhonen, the crew was much more willing to cope with changes and edits than Spumco was. Zim never had it as bad as Spumco.
