Ok, we have all read Nick is having trouble competing with CN, and we all know why, their programming currently sucks like crazy, I remember the good ol days when rugrats came on ONCE a day not EIGHT times and they had things like Ren and Stimpy and Rocko...if Nick would realize that those shows are what people want they wouldn't be in this problem but I forsee they will only dig themselves into deeper holes...agreed?

Nickelodeon's problems are that it has some really dumb shows (like you said) and it puts way too much emphasis on cute, non-violent, happy-go-lucky shows like Rugrats and Rocket Power. And TeenNick is not at all more mature or anything, it just has a lot of extreme physical comedy, like pie-in-the-face, etc.

Cartoon Network is very enterprising, and constantly has opportunities for new shows to show up. In the summer, they let you choose what show would be developed as the newest Cartoon Cartoon, and their shows are not the usual "kid makes mistake, kid messes up, kid apologizes to parents" kind of thing like Nickelodeon.

Another thing is that while Disney and Nickelodeon have special shows for toddlers, Cartoon Network has Looney Toons, which can be watched by people of all ages.

And, of course, Cartoon Network has shows for non-kids, namely, Toonami and Adult Swim.

There's something about really funny cartoons that people prefer over cheap comedies, age old sitcoms, babyish shows, and whatnot. That's why Cartoon Network is so successful.

I could sit down to watch Nick, and probably never get back up...mainly because I'd be mesmerized by the boringness of their shows.

I can flip right over to CN and watch a Cartoon Cartoon! instead of the Wild Thornberrys.

I stopped watching Nick when the "Amanda Show" popped up..and that Teen Nick thing is a joke....corny acting, stupid shows....yeah..like teenagers are going to watch that..

Ah...nick...bring back the good ol' days.."Are you afraid of the dark" was a good show....

Just give me SpongeBob... Nick is just trying too hard. Rugrat marathons everyday, idiotic Teen Nick programming, and something that scarcely resembles made-for-TV-movies are bringing them down.

The day that Nickelodeon goes bankrupt, I want Cartoon Network to buy Spongebob and maybe Rugrats. They'd show Spongebob as one of the Cartoon Cartoons (wouldn't that be awesome?!?) and Rugrats in the morning for the little kids. That's the best possible channel ever!

Nickelodeon will never go bankrupt. It makes a huge amount of money for Viacom.

Ok, I'm going to show my age here, but I remember the days of Nick when they showed "You Can't Do That On Television" and "Turkey TV" and "The Lost Cities of Gold" (which I'd love to see again) and "Danger Mouse" (of which I have most of on tape), and later Double Dare.

    *Sigh* The good 'ol days.

i watched nickeodian from about the end of you cant do that on telivision to around the 3rd season of snick then i got cartoon network on my cable and stopped watching all together for the most part with the exception of a couple of shows. now the only shows i watch are spunge bob and invader zim. nickelodian is realy weird, with its teenick thing. it just doesnt flow to have a arin carter vidio to open up for invader zim, and i wonder how many teens actually watch teenick.

Nick will not go bankrupt anytime soon. Don't worry about that. I posted in a previous thread...
$887 million in ad revenues... Only ESPN had more. A Writer's Guild of America - West (WGAw) rep used Hey Arnold! as an example of Nick's business model. He stated in the aforementioned article that Nick aired Arnold eps about 900 times (!) in the year 2000 alone. He further estimates each ep's production cost at $500K with respective ad revenues per ep of $14 million.
Now, why is Nick so enthused about live-action? Because, it... is... CHEAP! Even if Amanda Bynes gets a swelled head from her show (please, please get swelled so I never have to hear her ever again...), Nick can toss her, find some other nobody to have a show, and still make oodles of cash from endless reruns! There's just one problem with this equation, and I aim this one squarely at the Heap-Big-Chief-Muckety-Mucks at Nick. (cover your ears, kids...)
NO ONE IS WATCHING THESE SHOWS!!!
Nick is one of the main forces keeping Viacom afloat right now, and their entire business model is based on constant replay of the shows they own outright. Yet, the new shows that are coming up fall into one category or another: The good ones, which are not getting the support they need from Nick; and the ones that, as ZorBrak so eloquently put, "suck like crazy."
Someone's head must roll at Nick. But whose?

Yeah, I've gotten sick and tired of the same old episodes over and over again. It's come to the point that I barely watch Nick.

I only watch 3 shows on NICK. Spongebob, Fairly Oddaprents, and Invader Zim. I like these shows, because it has the comedy no other show on NICK has. The Amanda Show is just plain stupid. And the bad thing is , is that there is a movie coming out with Amanda and that Malcom character in Malcom in the Middle. I can here a flop coming from this movie already. There is also going to be a Jimmy Neutron series. Why can't they stick to the good shows? A good show either has action (which is only in Invader Zim) and good comedy (the 3 shows on top, Ren & Stimpy, and Rocko).
I was once called Patrick Star....a looooooong time ago.........then I needed a break.

I'd be happy if ANYONE remembered me!

Man, those were the good ol' days...It's kind of depressing that Nick has changed so much, but they have to change to appeal to this generation of children.

so you're saying today's kids like this crap?! no way. my 7 y.o. niece barely watches nick unless spongebob is on. my opinion? kids don't like it, but they that's all they can get. what are the options of a child without cn? rugrats marathons? arnold marathons? or lizzie maguire and disney"s army of overrated vomit inducers? i feel very sorry for today's youth.

The only shows I watch on Nick nowadays are Invador Zim and Hey! Arnold. Sometimes I'll watch Rugrats if nothing else is on.

But I really miss the days when Maya the Bee, David the Gnome, Maple Town, The Angry Beavers, etc. were on Nick. Those were the days, huh? Those were the days...

Now it's nothing but teeny-bopper stuff that no one watches. Sigh...

Nothing like living in the past... My nostalgia levels are high... OK, who wants to stage a hostile takeover on Nick (emphasis on hostile)?

It would be nice if they just made a channel for all there old shows, like Rocko and the Angery Beavers and such. I bet you it would do MUCH better then the stuff they have on the network right now.

Hmm, we might have something here...

Okay, VH1 has VH1 Classic for music videos of the 70s and 80s.

MTV has MTV X for hair-metal.

Nickelodeon needs a network to show their older stuff.

How about we gather classic Nick programming, rarely seen Nicktoons, and specials like the opening of Nick Studios at Universal Studios, and we call it "Nickelodeon Classic"?

    Any votes?

    Sincerely,

    John "Captain Caps" Kilduff
