Just about all of Viacom's channel's (besides Nick) ratings (save for VH1) have been down lately:
Viacom's rating woes: Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, Comedy Central are all down

Ratings at Comedy Central have fallen 15%, while MTV was off 19% in its key 18 to 34 demo.

Phillipe Dauman has some major explaining to do!

Neither. All channels deal with those factors, but Nickelodeon's the only one with such huge drops.

Well this is surprising, I can understand that Victorious isn't in that list, but the iCarly season premiere? Just wow...

Over at TVbytheNumbers is the ratings release Disney Channel has waited a long time for. For the first time, Disney Channel tops Nickelodeon for a month in all 4 demographics: Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11, Tweens 9-14, and Total Viewers. It was a trend that was starting to emerge last month, but now it has finally occurred. So what will Nickelodeon do now that they have lost March 2012 to Disney Channel?

L.A. Upfronts. The same info, more of a focus on Nick@Nite. These new shows do sound like a bridge-gap in-between Nickelodeon and the prime-time programming but I'd feel better if Nickelodeon just went 8pm-12am (if not just taking over the entire block) with older-skewing shows like Avatar, Zim and such. At least the telenovela stuff seems to be doing great with them doing again with this new show.

So what will Nickelodeon do now that they have lost March 2012 to Disney Channel?
They need to resist the urge to double-stack. The schedule changes and they aren't doing the stacks often so I think they realize scheduling is a problem. Though I wouldn't mind if Victorius aired twice a day in an hour block, that show deserves it.

Parents have long complained that Nick airs too many reruns of popular staples like "SpongeBob SquarePants," as the Disney Channel generates new original programming like "Jessie" and "Good Luck Charlie" to continue the success of hits like the recently departed "Wizards of Waverly Place."
    Pretty much.

I'm expecting a dip in the KCA ratings as well, but it may do well.

Eh, they kind of set the KCA up to fail this year. They're leading in with Fred and aren't premiering a new show after. Sure they'll have One Direction on but besides that, there isn't much to anticipate.

KCA's audience was down; 6.2 million viewers, lowest since 2007.

However, How To Rock held on and got 4.376 million viewers! It's down from Victorious from 2011, though but I didn't think the show would get that many. And don't the morning repeats do well?

Also looking at the Nick and More twitter, Disney's premieres were kinda soft. The honeymoon's over?

Not necessarily. Cartoon Network was driven to new April Monday records thanks to its big hits Adventure Time, Regular Show, and MAD. Cartoon Network almost beat Nickelodeon in kids 2-11 on Monday, April 2nd, and Cartoon Network beat Nick in kids 6-11/tweens 9-14, and was very close to beating even Disney Channel in kids 6-11 and 9-14. Here's the numbers below:

    Monday, April 2nd:

    KIDS 2-11

    Disney Channel - 840,000
    Nickeodeon - 732,000
    Cartoon Network - 666,000

    KIDS 6-11

    Disney Channel - 486,000
    Cartoon Network - 446,000
    Nickelodeon - 356,000

    TWEENS 9-14

    Disney Channel - 362,000
    Cartoon Network - 356,000
    Nickelodeon - 241,000
MONDAY: Dancing with the Stars | Castle
TUESDAY: Agents of SHIELD | The Goldbergs | Trophy Wife | Mind Games
WEDNESDAY: The Middle | Suburgatory | Modern Family | Mixology | Nashville
THURSDAY: Once Upon a Time in Wonderland | Grey's Anatomy | Scandal
FRIDAY: Last Man Standing | The Neighbors | Shark Tank | 20/20
SUNDAY: Once Upon a Time | Resurrection | Revenge

Yeah, the last saturday morning's ratings are probably the best of this year knowing that there were 5 premieres (one of them SpongeBob) vs. Disney's reruns and CN action premieres.

About the Disney's ratings -- I don't really know. Maybe it was one-time thing but maybe the ratings will keep dropping.

Really surprised at CN ratings, It seems that Gumball and Adventure Time are really strong. I even more surprised that CN almost beat Disney with the 6-11 and 9-14 demos.

    Also, some good ratings notes:

Live + Same Day Ratings Kids Cable Network Averages (000) for Sunday, April 1, 2012, 6am-11pm, ranked by K2-11:
    DISNEY CHANNEL: K2-11 1024; K6-11 687; TWEENS 9-14 555
    NICKELODEON: K2-11 940; K6-11 614; TWEENS 9-14 473
    CARTOON NETWORK: K2-11 551; K6-11 400; TWEENS 9-14 251
    NICKTOONS: K2-11 231; K6-11 153; TWEENS 9-14 107
    DISNEY XD: K2-11 185; K6-11 142; TWEENS 9-14 129

Because of a FOP marathon, last sunday Nicktoons beated DXD with K2-11 & K6-11.

And last week Nick was the number one K2-11 network (of course, most probably due to the KCAs).

I feel last weekend was one of those anomaly weekends because of the Kids Choice Awards . Nickelodeon can't put on that type of event every week, and thus, this week's ratings are skewed from a normal weekend. Cartoon Network's Monday programming will be part of the next cable week, the one that runs from Monday, April 2 to Sunday, April 8. However, I noticed from Bryan's tweets about Disney Channel:

Quote Originally Posted by Nick and More!

Friday's new A.N.T. Farm scored 2.464M viewers and new Phineas and Ferb had 2.641M. What's happened?
All of them are about the total viewer ratings. The following sentence I have emphasized for a reason, because it should be remembered, and remembered well:

Total viewer ratings are NOT the same as demographic ratings.

It is entirely possible to have a low total viewer rating, yet have a high demographic rating. The Top 10 ratings lists Cynopsis Kids releases in Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11, and Tweens 9-14, and the Saturday morning Kids 6-11 ratings are far more important than the total viewer numbers. For the next Top 10 lists, of course, the KCA would be at the top of those lists, then we'll see how Nick's other programming did, How to Rock, etc against Disney Channel.

I’m very well aware that the demos matter. They matter the most. HOWEVER, both Disney and Nickelodeon have used the total viewer numbers in press releases before – because they are very press-friendly.

Also, while not always the case – were goes the total viewers, so goes the demos. So if the total viewer number was down, the demos are very likely going to be down too. It’s not just the 12+ or 18+ crowd that’s going to stop watching and thusly make the kids demos remain the exact same.

Plus, total viewer numbers are what we have the most access too. These total viewer numbers for Jessie, Shake It Up and A.N.T. Farm aren’t much different that what Supah Ninjas was getting on Nick last year. They’re low. Low for Disney. Yes, last week may have very well been an outlier (KCAs, Hunger Games, etc.) but that doesn’t negate the fact that they were in fact down.

Jessie, for example, has been up and down since January. Take a look at the (yes total viewer) numbers since January:
January 6 (after Wizards finale) - 7.317 million
    January 20 - 3.334 million
    January 27 - 3.427 million
    February 10 - 2.924 million
    February 24 - 3.111 million
    March 9 - 3.230 million
    March 30 - 2.294 million

It’s a big, and noticeable, drop.

Also, the fact still is – Disney Channel has been down year-over-year. They’ve just not been down as much as Nick has. Nick is in far worse shape overall, but Disney doesn’t really have much to boast about, except beating Nick – while still being down themselves.

Cartoon Network (and maybe Disney XD) are the only networks that have gains and something to really boast about.

Hopefully the poor ratings is a wake up call of Viacom. The channel has been needing more diversity for years in my opinion. Plus, all of the young children shows should be on nick jr. and maybe they can use that extra space to allow that diversity in their programming.
