The Darkness seems to through back to some anthemic rock songs on their new album Permission to Land. Their name is decieving, and they are pretty good.
Whatever happened to fun, anthemic rock music you could blast in your car on a hot summer day? It seems like rock music has gotten either too serious (creed, nickelback) or too angry (korn, limp bizkit). Whatever happened to fun stuff like Rebel Yell, Rock n Roll all nite, I love Rock and Roll, or even Nothing but a good time? Is there any FUN music out there anymore?

Hmm maybe you consider this "pop" but "She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mud is definitely the most fun rock song I heard last year. I know I at least, don't consider it angry or angsty and to me the song is really more funny than anything else, hmm example: sort of like a "hell yeah!" shout if you're on a rollercoster.
It is definitely something I'd blast out the car window in the summer with a huge grin on my face the whole time.
Don't look at this space.
I've been wondering the same thing.
guess I'll have to tune to the "classic rock" station again...![]()

So true, however once in a while a great fun rock song will emerge. Take Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl"- one of the coolest song to come from last year (The CD isn't too bad either).
Probably my favorite "fun" rock song of all time is The Beatles "Hey Bulldog", my favorite Beatles tune, I could listen to that all day.

The White Stripes, Foo Fighters, Weezer and many others make fun stuff, but not exclusively. The thing is, like people have been saying, there aren't many bands that are known exclusively for "fun", feel good stuff. That's one reason why I love the David Lee Roth era of Van Halen so much. They made so much fun music!
One guy I'd recommend for fun music is Paul Gilbert. Not only is he one of the best guitarists on the planet, but he really let's his sense of humor shine through in his music.
That's probably my fave Beatles song too. Puts a huge smile on my face every time I hear. The melody is just awesome. And, not to be anal or anything, but I think it's "bullfrog". But I'm not sure.Probably my favorite "fun" rock song of all time is The Beatles "Hey Bulldog", my favorite Beatles tune, I could listen to that all day.

May God forgive us our insanity, and we'll keep pressing on."

I say there's been at least a few good belt it out songs of late.![]()
At least in my opinion.
"So, as my final thought, steal from your parents"-Lewis Black
Smash Mouth's older stuff was pretty angry, but Walkin' on the Sun got them into a more pop rock market that was continued with Can't Get Enough of You Baby, All Star, and I'm a Believer.
I know many people are probably sick of these above songs, but, if you listen to their entire CDs (except the angry stuff, as I said), they have a lot of "fun" rock music, although it may be a bit too pop for some.
Their new album (which I don't think was too popular) has some more "hopeful" songs (Hang On, Fun, and New Planet seem to address post-9/11 emotions), but 105 and other faster songs are fun...well, at least to me.![]()

Good call-- actually a good portion of Evolver is pretty upbeat and fun, although some of the songs still manage to make a point despite (or because of) that.Originally Posted by Weatherman
Incubus also tends to put one or two "fun" songs on each album (the best example probably being "Are You In?"). Wonder if there'll be any on the new one in February-- "Megalomaniac" definitely doesn't fit in that category, but I can always hope. (-:
Party songs haven't been very popular for years unfortunately. Your best bet is probably pop punk these days (Blink 182, Sum 41, etc.), or Kid Rock.
Andrew W.K. does almost nothing but party songs though. Check out these songs:
It's Time to Party
Party Hard
Party Til You Puke
Fun Night
Long Live the Party
Tear it Up
Never Let Down
Yep, he likes to party allright!
Definately The Darkness, Foo Fighters, and Puddle of Mudd. Alot of their stuff has a fun feel to it. Also, Guns 'N' Roses has a new album coming out (eventually), and I hope it's a fun record much like Appetite For Destruction.
"There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me; only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply... am not... there."
Oh yeah, that Chinese Arithmetic thing or whatever it's called. Well, if Buckethead is still playing with them by that time, I can't see how there wouldn't be something fun on the album! He makes more fun music (not anthem-type stuff, but still...) than just about any artist out there, and I can't believe I forgot to mention him in an earlier post.Originally Posted by BY1

Outside of The Darkness, the only newer artist that I can think of that fits the idea of "fun music" is Logan Whitehurst and the Jr. Science Club. Although just a side project (he's the drummer for the power pop group The Velvet Teen), it's very, very original and upbeat. As for songs, I would suggest "Monkeys Are Bad People", "Prostethic Brain", and "Me and the Snowman", which can be downloaded free from his record label's website, pandacide.com.

Agreed on Jet, but as for the Darkness, im sorry, the music is good,,but that singer,,,<shudder>
In what seems to be a common theme in this thread, I'd recommend The Darkness. Their album's awfully fun to listen to, and they like to rock out. I'm not sure about Jet's album, but if "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" is anything to go by, then that's probably an entertaining album too. Maybe the same goes for the new Offspring album. They can usually get a pretty good hook in their songs.
Or if you're desperate, you can always go old-school and maybe pick up AC/DC's "Back in Black". Now that's a rockin' album.
"We live in a society of laws. Why do you think I took you to all those "Police Academy" movies? For fun? Well, I didn't hear anybody laughing, did you?!"
