    VH1's 50 Greatest Album Covers

I was just looking at something about the same channel's top 50 funny moments in music, and I noticed this list too. Who on earth do they contact for voting on this? Like with almost all of this station's other top lists, they tend to ignore much of the past too. Anyway, I would like to address my comments on some of these:

Remember, the music is always more important than the album cover, but because the covers are what this is about....

    Spoiler:
#47 - That cover is more unoriginal that it is great. Those limited edition covers were neat, but that's all nothing near great.
#45, 37, 24 - Those are some cool covers that not many people seem to mention in music history. They are also three very underrated albums in general too.
    #35, 34, 29, 17 - Why?
#31 - Good art, pathetic music.
#26 - This ought to offend some people.
#21 - The Velvet Underground is one of the most underrated bands of all time; I wish that people would recognize the music of them more than the album covers.
#15 - There's actually a very interesting story behind this cover. Apparantly they had to pull the original design from stores when it first came out because the members of the band who died were shown on fire.
    #3 - My #1.
    #1 - Top 50? Yes. #1? No.

Among what I wish could have been in there:
the Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, With/Meet the Beatles, Revolver
Led Zepplin - In Through the Out Door
Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery
the Moody Blues - To Our Childrens' Childrens' Children
Elton John - Don't Shoot Me (I'm Only the Piano Player), 11-17-70
Neil Young - Decade (it's a greatest hits album, but it still has a great cover)
    Soundgarden - Superunknown
    Beck - Midnite Vultures
The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Andrew WK - I Get Wet
Be sure to catch 24 every Monday at 9pm Eastern on Fox (and 10pm Eastern on Global). Watch it, because you know you're brighter than Michael Irvin.

    Meh

*Made as I look through the list*

    Aguilera's cover...

I would've put Dookie a bit higher...there's something I really like about that cover.

I don't see why the Dixie Chicks were so special. It's just a picture of them. =\

I can understand Blink 182 being on there, though I don't respect the band at all. Same thing for Korn and Manson.

Great call on Amorica; so simple yet so controversial. Also liked the comment about how violence and guns on covers are alright, yet pubic hair creates controversy.

Gotta disagree with Tupac...though I appreciate he was a great rapper, that cover isn't really anything special at all.

I realize it's kind of cliche to make fun of boy bands, but seriously, why is N*Sync on that list? That cover wasn't original nor good.

    Velvet Underground.... <3 Warhol.

I hate Prince, and likewise I hate that album cover. A purple motorcycle.......w00t?

I can see why Sex Pistols made it. I think the cover is representative of what they came to represent in the music world. As far as punk goes, I think this one was better than The Ramones (who placed higher).

    Fleetwood Mac...........bleh. Stupid cover.

No Doubt is WAY too high. The cover is good, I could see it on the list, but that's really high.

Madonna....meh to the max. The thing about Madonna is she has no musical talent, just controversy value...but looking from a cover perspective, this one isn't too controversial/special.

Pink Floyd...I don't know why, but I totally love that cover. I might even put it as a personal #1.

    Nirvana should've been at #1 or #2.

The Who....though I love the band, it seems a cover like that is high.

Rolling Stones at #1...nah. Nothing that special. Pink Floyd or Nirvana should've got the honor...

Not too impressed with this list. Biggest problem:

Where the hell is Sgt. Pepper?!!
It recently dawned on me that my signature could be interpreted as being said by me. For the record, this was not the case. If the previous signature reduced your opinion of me, please increase your opinion. Thank you.

What? No Tool covers? Aenima & Lateralus are definitely top 10 worthy innovation-wise or novelty-wise at least.

I am definately not a Beatles fan, but I have to agree with that.

    Second biggest problem:

Where the hell is Metallica? Not only are their first five album covers among the greatest ever (Master of Puppets is best, IMO) but considering how much Met and VH1 love to fellate each other, I'd think they'd be in the top ten. Someone should be taken outside and shot.

They really are running out of topics to do lists on.

Another VH1 list, and no mention of Tori? *sigh* Oh well. She's had several fantastic album covers that should be on this list.

"Little Earthquakes"- Her debut album. The cover is completely white, and in the center is a small wooden box with Tori, ever so shyly, peeking out of it as if it's the first time in her life to see what's outside the box. Then when you turn to the back and look over the song titles: "Girl" "Silent All these Years" "Precious Things" you see that it all ties together perfectly.

"Boys for Pele"- Contreversial? Definetly. It shows her sitting in a rocking chair on her front porch of her rickity old shackle of a house. One bare leg is draped lazily over the armrest while a shotgun is cradled in her arms. She has a sadistic little smile on her face as a snake slithers at her feet, and a mangled rooster is hung next to her by its legs.

"From the Choirgirl Hotel"- Complete blackness, with Tori pressed up against the front of the cover, lifeless. When you consider the pain she went through prior to recording the album, it gives it all a very morbid feel.

"Strange Little Girls"- There were several covers made, each showing Tori dressed up as all the stereotypes of women, each one for each song on the album. There's pop star Tori, motorcylce Tori, beatnik Tori, gothic Tori, it's very clever.

"Scarlet's Walk"- Seriously, they chose the Dixie Chicks over this? "Scarlet's Walk" is not just a music album, it's a story of woman with a long, long road through America to travel. The cover shows Tori staring over her shoulder at her former self, and then you see the long deserted road she must travel going on for miles.

    *sighs* */Tori rant*
""Sit in the chair and be good now" and become all that they told you"- Tori Amos "Girl"

"She's convinced she could hold back a glacier, but she couldn't keep baby alive"- Tori Amos "Spark"

Boy VH1 is really killing me with this stupid Greatest of list shows. I'm particularly tired of the same old people on the show commenting. Although I've missed seeing Alison Stewart, I always had a crush on her. Last I saw her she was working for ABC News.

Anyways, I didn't agree with this list much at all. I have a book on the subject and there are some covers out there that really would blow people away. This should have been a 100 list, first off and secondly they missed the mark on too many covers. I remember one 80's album with this guy in a hotel room floating with his head above the ceiling as if the room is a pool. That should be hanging in museums.

And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes

I'm looking through the actual pictures of the album covers and I've noticed that they censored Van Halen's "1984" (number 36). That angel baby thing is supposed to have a cigarette in his hand, but they cropped it out.

Anyway, an interesting, though extremely limited, list. I don't agree with most of it, but then who ever does?

I see that Ghost In The Machine from The Police made the list...but it wasn't near as great as Synchronicity. WHERE IS SYNCHRONICITY???

The only thing they can do now is make new lists of things they left off the old lists! *Thinks of I Love The 80's Strikes Back* They already beat me to the idea.
