Jewel's new look and music thoughts

I know Jewel fans may very, but I was one of them. And I think her new look and "attitude" is almost like a slap in the face for liking her music before now. She sang beautiful music that came from the heart, now I can't tell if her heart is in this new Britney overhaul look.

This whole thing doesn`t look like it will hold a lasting effect, she chose the blonde bombshell pop star route right when the music industry is changing to better tastes. Whats your thoughts on the whole thing?

I'm not much on the term 'sell-out' but I think that suits her pretty well these days.

I have mixed feelings about it...on one hand, I dislike that she did a complete 180 on her looks and music to become a complete pop artist. On the other hand, it isn't THAT bad. I do wish she stayed with her old look and such but what can you do? I like her single "Intuition" and I might look in to buying her CD just so I can compare it to her old stuff and see which I like better.

Well when I saw the video I said to myself. "Wow, Jewel is hot now."

I'm not sure if it's so much selling out, but maybe making a stand against selling out by looking like she's selling out so much. You can never tell with these stars unless they admitt it and so far she hasn't done so yet. However, if she is trying to go girl pop, it won't work, and she'll be back doing what she normally does if she has another album.

I'm not quite sure with just this one song I'll have to hear more before I pass judement.

If you look at the lyrics to "Intuition," the song is about surviving in a world of post modern fads. When everything keeps changing, you can't rely on any one truth except your own intuition. She embodies her point by transforming her own image.

The video obviously illustrates the satire. It starts out as a home video recording of Jewel, then suddenly Jewel takes a sip of her soda, the camera goes in on her, and the wind blows her shirt open like it's a soda commercial. This is followed by lots of similarly surreal moments, including a part where some protesters break out into a Britney-style choreographed dance. It's all very over the top, meant as a parody of "rap videos, runways, and pop culture," according to Jewel.

But the social commentary doesn't mean she's not genuine in her performance. She understands that this is a business where you sell yourself, and she's comfortable with that. She's also right, because as big as she was before, no one was really paying attention to her. But now that she's out there and wiggling her sweet cans, I think America is ready to watch.

While the term "sell out" could be applied to her, and I much prefer her old sound to any kind of pop thing she might be doing...I REALLY like what she's workin with . Shake it babe!

Yeah I just assumed the new look in the video was satire.
especially the bit with the call in comments saying "jewles music sounds so much better now that she dances! SCREEEEEEM!"

Also, i love the way the video is done, the transitions are nice and clean.

Which is why I'm not ready to call her a sell out just yet if her next song and video are pop then I might be willing to do so.

No artist in the history of music has been allowed to try a different style of music without justifying themselves. Noone ever assumes that the artists just wants to express a different side of themselves. The average person will claim to like several different kinds of music, but God forbid an artist try to make more than one.

Except for the Rolling Stones. Now THERE are the biggest sell-outs in history, but history instead says they are versatile artists.
