What is your favorite decade of music?

    Like This Thread!
I would pick the 1930's because there was a nice combination of early Jazz, sweet sound, and especially Big Band music. The 1940's is a close second.

so hard to chose between the 60's and 70's. but the 70's did bring us countless rock clasics (pink floyds 4 best albums came out in the 70's). and that kills all the crappy disco. if i had to chose a 10 year period though it would be 65-75.n but i'm just gonna go with 70.

I ADORE The Beatles and The Who, so 60s it is. I almost said the 80s 'cause of U2 and Billy Joel though.

Ugh, this is a tough one for me. There's a lot of good music out there, but there's also been a lot of crap - especially through the 90's. It's all about perspective, though. I grew up as a child in the 80's and a teen through the 90's and remember a lot of the bad music from those eras - music that the radio stations today have also, thankfully, forgotten.

I'll go with the classics though, and suggest the 60's and 70's had the most influential music in recent memory. I can't choose between the two!

The 60's, even though about half my record collection is music from the 90's.

With the exception of the Beatles, my favorite period of music was the late 1980's to the mid 1990's, so I voted for the 1990's.

I love music from all eras and styles, but If I had to pick a favorite, it would definitely be 70s rock. It was just cool stuff.

80s. It's the music I was conceived to. Ha ha ha...

    Seriously though, 80s.

Like Tim, it's tough for me too. In fact, if there were a "tie" option I would choose the 1960's and the 1990's. I am lucky to have grown up in a family with diverse musical taste and a collection of cds, records, tapes, you name it, from all eras. I voted for 1960's, because there were so many great musicians from that era. The Beatles, for one, being my favorite. Rolling Stones, too, and they would almost fit into the '70's category equally. The Who were great, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, the Byrds, the Beach Boys. I love Eric Clapton's stuff too, from any era.

As for the 1990's, maybe it's just because I grew up listening to that music too...I was born 1984, so the 90's were basically my growing-up years. I can still remember most of the stuff I heard or listened to a lot in middle school, and I must have had good taste because most of it is still on the radio today. Oh, sure, there was some crap in there...I remember the Spice Girls becoming so popular once that a group of girls in my class choreographed a talentshow performance to one of their songs. not surprisingly, I never met a guy who liked their music...it was girly pop. Thankfully, though, the 90's was dominated by intelligent, singer-written stuff and not the sex-crazed, boardroom-written pop stuff of today. Here are some names for you: Dave Matthews Band, Counting Crows, Matchbox Twenty, Sheryl Crow, Nirvana, No Doubt, Goo Goo Dolls, Green Day, Foo Fighters, ....to name but a few that were and are good. And dammit, I know people forgot them, but the Presidents of the United States of America were and still are one of my favorites. Don't forget ANY Texas country music.

I guess you could say I'm one of the only people on earth with the Beatles, Carl Stalling cartoon scores, Green Day and Lyle Lovett in the same CD collection

    The 60s for me.

Though the 70s were good in the same way, too.
It recently dawned on me that my signature could be interpreted as being said by me. For the record, this was not the case. If the previous signature reduced your opinion of me, please increase your opinion. Thank you.

For the sake of picking a decade, I chose the 90's, but really, I love certain music and groups from every decade. Even other centuries when it comes to some classical music.

Tough one. I love Jazz and the music of the 30's/40's very much. However, grew up in the 90's so the rock of that period is my heart. Faith No More, Pixies, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Killing Joke (later stuff), Breeders, Soundgarden, Pavement, Cracker... the new wave of alternative rock.

But yes, I adore jazz and much 80's pop. There was some fantastically tight pop music that came out then with some stunning bass lines *big bass lover*

Either the 60's (Motown, the Beatles, etc.) or the 70's (funk/soul, disco). The 90's might come in third (since I was a teenager/adult in the 90's and all). The 80's...blech.

    80's.

I can't think of a decade that put out so much music that I enjoy and still listen to this day.
