    Fresh Question #38: A Friend-Sent Song

    Like This Thread!
Greetings fan freaks. It's new FQ time. Let's roll.

The best way to be introduced to a song is by a friend who has felt something or lived something which lead him/her to said song. Recently I've been introduced to some cool, emotional songs I probably wouldn't have noticed otherwise. So with that in mind:

What is a really cool, emotional song you like that was introduced to you by a friend??

    Emotions

Open Arms by Journey was introduced to me by my stepmom, who is my closest ally as of this posting. I listen to it when I think that all hope is lost and I find the strength to soldier on.

The Pixies was introduced to me via a mate - and they have been a guide to me musically and something I can relate to lyrically. 'Monkey Goes To Heaven' was the key song that got me hooked.

David Bowie - my love of his work came through my mums collection and I have a great attachment to the stuff that she liked as a kid, now brequethed to me! 'Ashes To Ashes' I thought was very touching. As was 'Life On Mars'.

At the time when I a sulky teenager was more interested in piling on the black eyeliner than listening to music my husband (then my BF) introduced me to Genesis and many of the songs from Trespass up to and including the 'Duke' album have lyrics I feel were written for me Heathaze, Burning Rope, Mad Man Moon, etc. Along with that came Elvis Costello, 'Alison', Kate Bush 'L'amour looks something like you', 'Oh England my Lionheart', ''Coming up to date he also got me into Nick Drake ... 'Fruit Tree' makes me sad yet is cool and Jeff/Tim Buckley.

A cousin introduced me to the Pretenders, 'Hymn to her' is one I especially like while Vin Garbutt was introduced to me via a friend of my husband years ago, most of his songs touch my lyrically but 'City of Angels' just makes me weep.

Another friend introduced me to REM ... Fall On Me, Find the River, Walk Unafraid are all 'relate to me' ones and the same goes for U2 and though its a bit of a cliche and everyone knows it, 'One' is something I have a special attachment to.

EDIT: how could I forget Aimee Mann, introduced again by the old man and again too many songs that feel like me to mention
