Now that is wrong. Those poor kids having to pay to have music brought into there lives?? Something is not right with that. How could kindergarteners write their own music?? The world today, it makes you wonder.

According to an AFP report (German derivative work thereof), the Finnish music industry is asking kindergartens to pay about 20 €uros per month in royalties for singing and performing copyright-protected songs. Marja-Leena Karjula of the national copyright agency Teosto is cited: "Royalties have to be paid for every work that is performed outside of private homes." In a similar vein, last year the Finnish music industry had forced taxi drivers to pay royalties for music played while driving (because passengers might be listening!).

Unless RIAA Reps are going to come busting into Kindergardens and monitoring classes I'd say this is pretty much stupid.
I guess i should start paying for singing songs off the radio too.![]()

Well, that is pretty messed up, but if anyone's gonna pay, why not have the school itself pay? If they don't want to pay, why not choose songs to sing that no one could care less about reaping money from? Old stuff, I mean.
Anyway, this is nothing new. Here in America, stores legally have to pay radio stations for playing the station in the store. Also, ever wonder why most restaurants don't sing you a straight up Happy Birthday? Because an actual family owns the Happy Birthday song, and it is actually illegal for the servers, hostesses, etc. to sing it to the customer. Just some interesting facts I thought I'd share.
I'm all for that. It's about time someone teach those little punks to stop flaunting the law.

....... :: blinkblink:: The hell?! Okay, stupidity is going WAY off the charts in this case....
The music industry is just ticked off after the whole Napster fiasco. Their sales continue to drop, and they continue to blame the downloading community instead of themselves for delivering good music at an affordable price. Now they want to squeeze more money from us by demanding that kids pay royalites when they sing songs. Just one more reason not to set foot into A record store.
Don't forget folks this is about the Finnish music industry. It's still unbelievably stupid, but this doesn't directly affect most of us.![]()
