Bands I've Recently Discovered (I'll be adding to this list as I think of them):
OK Go - If The Cars, The Beatles, and They Might Be Giants decided to have a baby, it would be this band.
Vendetta Red - Think neo-punk (The Hives, The Vines, The Strokes) with a much darker, harder edge. The subjects of their songs range from topical ("Stay Home" is about child abuse) to ordinary ("The Long Goodbye" is a love song that could have been recorded in the sixties) to the really bizarre ("Lipstick Torniquets" is about the movie, not the book, "Bram Stoker's Dracula" with Keanu Reeves.)
Miho Hatori - She definitely one of the strangest artists I've ever listened to. She's actually a member of three bands: The Gorillaz (you can really hear her influence on "19-2000"), the J-Indie band Guitar Vader with Blur's Damon Albarn (they do some of the music for the "Jet Set Radio" games) and her own band Cibo Matto (with Sean Lennon and the Beastie Boys sitting in). Basically, if you like the previously mentioned "19-2000" and "Cats on Mars" from Yoko Kanno, you'll like her. If you want to check her out, I suggest looking at Guitar Vader first, mainly "Super Brother" and "Good Morning Mr. Three Cats". The Gorillaz are a bit too mainstream and Cibo Matto is a bit to weird for people discovering her music for the first time (except for their mambo-fied cover of Nirvana's "About a Girl" which features DJ Mix Master Mike).
Best Songs (Can't expain them really, just try to check them out)
"Curbside Prophet" by Jason Mzar
"Mahna Mahna" by Cake (Yes, it's the song from the Muppets)
"Get Over It" by OK Go
"Chick 'n Stu" by System of a Down
"Thy Unveiling" by Insane Clown Posse
"Shatterday" by Vendetta Red
"In the Summertime" by Mungo Jerry
