Yeah, I saw the title of this thread and the first band that came to mind was Alice in Chains. They did so much with so little. It's such a shame Layne wasted away with his drug problem.
While listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan last night, I thought of this topic. As much as Vaughan is missed, my choice for individual musician is Jimi Hendrix. He pushed the limits of what a guitar can do so much, and one can only guess at what he would have done as time and technology progressed. So, I pick Hendrix mostly based on untapped potential.
I think I'd pick Alice in Chains for band. They were very creative and made a lot of heartfelt, meaningful songs. Things were looking good for them in 1998, as their album Nothing Safe came out, which included a newly recorded song, "Get Born Again." Sadly, nothing transpired fromt this and the band died quickly amidst rampant speculation about Layne Staley's drug problems, which led to his death not too long ago.
So, who would you pick and why?
Aaliyah: she was really talented and at the peek of her career she was gone just like that. I was really excited to see her in Matrix 2 and 3![]()
Arguing on the internet is like running in the Special Olympics... even if you win, you're still retarded.
Super Secret Agent Girl
Stevie Ray Vaughn of course, he was a great guitar player![]()
Kurt Cobain
John Lennon

Chris Farley
Musician: Bon Scott
Band: Soul Coughing
EDIT: There's one other guy I have to add: Frank Zappa. Mosdt of the music I listen to is either directly or indirectly influenced by him.

Joey and Dee Dee Ramone.![]()
Even though the Ramones had not been together for about 5 years before their deaths, It still would've been cool to have seen them in concert.
Cliff Burton
I have to agree with that one. I truly beleive that if he were still around, Metallica wouldn't have turned to crap in the mid-90's. I think that's what I miss the most. Metallica before they went all corporate. Jason was smart getting out of that mess. He's still the same Jason Newsted that joined back in '86, unlike the 3 sellouts.Cliff Burton
"There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me; only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply... am not... there."
The Beatles (mostly pre-1966)
Where are all the feel-good romantic love songs? Now it's all "I wanna sex you up, you're so fine, shake that thang for me" and I don't find that romantic at all. Sometimes you just want a guy who says, "I wanna hold your hand."
Oh yeah, I also miss the original Guns 'N' Roses. I can't stand the new line-up. A guy with a freaking KFC bucket on his head and facepaint? What the hell?!![]()

While they are around in various projects, I miss Faith No More. As a talent no longer with us, I think Kurt Cobain had more to come - I think there was an interesting shift in his style that was beginning that will sadly never be exposed now.

THE POLICE
I know Sting still tours and delivers a number of Police songs in his concerts, but I missed the Police's early concerts for I was too young to see them. But, I loved their new wave sound.
"Roxanne", "So Lonely", "Wrapped Around Your Finger", "Every Breath You Take", etc. etc.
They are being inducted into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame this year. Here's hoping for a reunion.

Bart: Why do we need Church shoes? Jesus wore sandals
Homer: Maybe if he had better arch support, they wouldn't have caught him
I sort of miss White Zombie. Sure, Rob is doing the solo thing now, but the new stuff is severley lacking in quality compared to the older stuff.
Of course, I have to say Nirvana as well. I'd have to say, though, that if Kurt didn't do it then, he would have eventually. What with the depression and stomach problems and all.
Spike Jones, most definately.
Individual: Jim Morrison
Band: The Beatles/Nirvana
I would have put the Doors on there, but now they are going to tour with Ian Asbury of the Cult on vocals and record a new album.![]()

Micheal Jackson
I mean Beat It, Thriller, Billie Jean, even Bad, and Smooth Criminal Micheal Jackson.
I don't really care for this guy who looks like Skeletor and dangles his children over the balconies.
