I enjoy the music of Smallville and how they feature the CDs at the end of the show. If you were asked to pick out music for the show given its characters and situations, what would you suggest?
Here are my suggestions. They both happen to be from R.E.M.'s "Number 5 Document":I especially like the second one considering their "freak of the week" format!
- "It's the End of the World as We Know It"
- "Strange"
Kryptonite by Three Doors Down when they actually start calling the meteor rocks Kryptonite.
They can also play Superman by Eminem. Well at least part of it.
They do?! Obviously, I've never noticed this. Is it during the credits or what?Originally posted by MILatino

I think it's shown right after the annoucer says something like "Stay tuned for next week's Smallville..". It's either at that, or sometime in the commercials after the show has ended...Originally posted by I Hate Batmanuel!

it's before the closing credits, but after the episode ends... they say, "Tonight's episode of SMALLVILLE featured music by..."
"You will be different. Sometimes, you will feel like an outcast. But you will never be alone. You will make my strength your own. You will see my life through your eyes, as your life will be seen through mine.
The son becomes the father, and the father becomes the son."

Wow.I've seen every episode and have never seen that! (if I have, then I'm drawing a total blank. I bet if I asked my brother or mother, who have both seen every episode as well, that they'd probably say the same thing) I'm not the kind that changes the channel as soon as it fades to black, either. Weird... I'll have to pay more attention in the future. I should watch a few reruns on a few different channels and see.
OK, so now that you're all aware that they showcase the music, what music would you recommend for this show?
Well, I've noticed two things about the music they use: it is often heavy (especially when villains are on the screen) and they aren't shy about using Canadian bands on the show.
That being said, I would suggest:
"Hundred Million" - Treble Charger
"The Sound of Love" - Danko Jones
"Get Outta Dodge" - Huevos Rancheros
"The Scene" - Big Sugar
"Rock Machine" - Copyright
That's about all I can think of right now as far as hard rockin' Canadian tunes are concerned. As far as other stuff, I'm a big fan of instrumental music, so more of that would be nice. Maybe some Buckethead, Racer X, and the like. They do a good job with the music on the show and I think it would be nice for them to showcase some of the lesser known music.
I think "Poem to a Horse" by Shakira would be a nice song for a Lana moment. ^.^
Tell a man there are 300 billion stars in the universe, and he'll believe you. Tell him that bench has wet paint on it, and he'll touch it to make sure.
I thought it was pretty cool that Johnathan Kent was listening to old Waylon's "The Dukes Of Hazzard" Theme Song (Good Ole Boys) on the radio in his truck.

I Hate Batmanuel! Your from Canada, so you probably watch Smallville on Global right? Well, the CD thing at the end is a WB-Only thing. It's not part of the show really, so Global doesn't show that.
Oh, and sorry if this was a bit off topic guys...
Ah, so I'm not crazy!Originally posted by Spike Spiegel

(and Space channel is getting it this fall, along with Birds of Prey)
I agree with JusticeLeagueLegion. That "Dukes" scene was great!
As far as music suggestions, another thing I thought they could do is watch the Tony Hawk Gigantic Skatepark Tour specials for inspiration. They have a lot of different, very hip music on those!
Forever now, I've wished that at the end of an episode, they'd play "Crazy Life" by Toad the Wet Sprocket. I think it'd be a great ending to play as the camera pans away from Clark and Lana on the night streets of Smallville just as the credits begin to play.
Listen to the song somehow and I'm pretty sure you'll all agree.

I would like it so very much better if Smallville didn't try to get money from using and plugging popular music. Lois & Clark used original music for the most part, and boy did that ever say Superman to me.
Although I did love the uses of Superman by Five For Fighting, and the third single off of Michelle Branch's CD. Those are two highlights for me. But other than that I'd prefer original music for the most part.
