This is what happens when you can't sleep, you come up with weird threads like this. Okay, I know everybody's got some kind of music they listen to no one else does- or at least no one you know- and have a ton of that kind of music. For me, it's Swedish pop/ indie pop. Cloudberry Jam, Komeda, Wannadies, Cardigans, etc. I think I have almost every album by the Cardigans, 75% of the singles they've released, and I shelled out $20 to get a copy of the "My Favourite Game" video not shown in America. That's just one group. So what's your "different" music?...
That's cool... I'm also into Movie scores, some are really pretty cool. And I'm on a bluegrass/ jamband kick right now too...
Lots of jazz and NPR music. I love instrements like sitars and bagpipes.
If you get put in solitary, it ****ing sucks. I was put in there just because they had me in double-lock maximum security, and it's the most tedious ****ing thing. I can't think of anything more boring. There's a Japanimation cartoon I've been trying to watch on Cartoon Network called Witch Hunter Robin, and that's almost as boring.
-Isaac Brock
I listen to Big Band when I'm falling asleep.
I like that that happened- Space Ghost
Unlike most of my peers I'm heavy into rock and roll and basicly just anything that sounds good to me. I don't care if it's country if it sounds good I'm into it. These are some of the artists that I never here anyone talk about but i'm into alot.
Chris Gaines
A "different" artist I'm into that i'm sure no one else is, is Chris Gaines, the alter ego of Garth Brooks. I've got his first and only album and hppy.
Jon Mayer
For a while I thought I was the only person who knew about Jon Mayer and then I saw a special with him on MTV and then I saw his video on MTV and thankfully he hasn't gone pop. Jon Mayer is a true musician and just has a quality to his work that no one else does.
The Lost Prophets
Same can be said about the england rock group, The Lost Prophets. They are just damn good, I mean every song is awesome. I haven't heard squat about them in the states, and it's a pitty we are missing out. My friend from England introduced me to them through MP3's and as soon as they get a CD out over here I'm picking it up.

Metal. Opera. Baby.
Beat that
Seriously though, my favorite band is Nightwish, which has heavy metal guitaring with an operaesque (English) vocalist. They're from Finland. They just released a new album this year, and it's dead sexy.

I can basically copy and paste what C. Sanders said and put for myself.
Unlike most of my peers, I enjoy more than what's on MTV. I can listen to anything from Celtic music to death metal.
The majority of my taste is called "Progressive Metal". Bands that are too talented and pretentious for American media.
And yes, Nightwish is awesome.![]()

I used to like him. Now, hearing track 4 on his new CD makes me want to pull out my own arms in order to have something to throw at the CD player.
I listen to some weird metal sometimes. Like Marylin Manson or Slipknot. My friends make fun of me for that, but whatever, if I'm in the right mood, you know?

Béla Fleck & the Flecktones....
I've seen them live, and you haven't seen anything until you see a guy play two saxes at the same time.![]()
My origins have been clouded in mystery... some say that I was once a man, known as Hamato Yoshi. Another tale states that I was once merely a humble pet rat of a man named Hamato Yoshi. For the record allow me to state that both are true... and yet, neither is true. Such is the way of Ninjitsu.
Ha. ICP, I remeber them they had a few decent songs until they got wrapped up in this Eminem thing. I lost all respect for them, It's okay to admit when your outclassed rather than carry on like 2 little girls spitting out close to God awful disses and come backs.

Basement Jaxx. HA! how's that for different!
(they do the song that's in the pringles and pentium 4 comercials, the song is titled "where's your head at?")
i also like to rock out to punk during the day, Hard rock like cKy or him at night, and then fall asleep to blur or gorilliaz.
if you think i'm odd you should just wait till my band's demo comes out![]()
My sister did that to me with Robbie Williams and Ja Rule, I got HER into Robbie Williams and now she's got me hating the man.My sister is absolutley obsessed with Jon Mayer. When my sister is obsessed with someone, she plays their songs over and over and over and over...

I listen to Classic Rock like Skynard, Zepelin, and the Stones. As well as Jazz, Big Band, and Anime and J-Pop. I tell my friends I listen to AC/DC or Zepelin and they look at me like I'm crazy. They either listen to that "Alternative" stuff or Eminem. Don't get me started on Emenim.
Violent J can't rap and he ruins every song he is on. Most ICP albums are funny for about 2 weeks then they get old fast.
Eli Gerstner's "Chevra", or Shalsheles. I also like Yehuda's new "Ephtach Pi", but I like his other work too.
Heh...beat THAT!![]()
And besides, most people look at this type of topic unrealistically. They are all under the apparent misconception tha--oh, wait. Is my post over? Ah, okay.

I too thought I was the only non-Dave Matthews fan that liked him. I first heard him on a free-form, modern rock radio show called "Edge of the X" here in Pittsburgh in late 2000. He did an amazing accoustic set and said he was in the middle of recording his debut album. The next time I heard his music was in the summer of last year on free-form station WYEP. I suggest loading the accoustic version of "No Such Thing" from his self released album. It's relaxing without being whiney or folk.Originally posted by Chris Sanders MSX

As for mine...
Rufus Wainright - Great songwriter. He has a real sarastic sense of humor in his writing. Just ignore the song he did for "Shrek", which he didn't write and isn't all that great anyways, and you'll be fine.
Kirsty Maccoll - British singer with a real bizarre sense of humor. I suggest the song "I'm Going Out With an Eighty Year Old Millionaire".
Mephiskapheles - They bill themselves as "The Worlds First Satanic Ska Band", but their Jazz-Ska leanings are closer to Jazz legend Chuck Mangione than to Maylin Manson. I suggest the rather peppy "Doomsday" or "The Bumblebee Tuna Song", a novelty-ska update of the classic jingle.
Our Lady Peace - This is the only "moody" music that I can actually enjoy. They say some serious, REM-esque things without being whiney ala Michael Stipe. I suggest the ablums "Spiritual Machines"; a concept album about technology based on a book by the same name written by inventor Ray Kurzweil, and their new one, "Gravity".
Harvey Danger - Ignore "Flagpole Sitta" and go immediately to their second album, "King James Version". It's funny, angry, and very incoherent all at the same time. I also sugggest the song "Plauge of Locusts", their ode to Revelations from the bible.
Reel Big Fish - Ska for people who don't like ska at all. They do enough ska things to make the fans happy, and enough bizarre stuff (like a cover of Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf") to make everyone else happy. I suggest the songs "Scott's a Dork", "You Don't Know", and "Everything Is Cool", which features a dead-on parody of both Rage Against the Machine and Korn.
They Might Be Giants - Everybody's favorite geek rock band. I suggest the albums "Apollo 18" and Mink Car. You won't be diappointed.
OKGO - Okay, okay. I know that their album is even released yet. I've never been to Chicago, so I've never seen them in any local clubs. But I did see them with TMBG and own both of their "sampler CDs" they put out, so that works for me. I suggest the incredibly creepy "The Unrequited Orchestra of Locomotion" and their new single "Get Over It".
