    Guilty Pleasures? (music)

    Like This Thread!
So, I'm signed up with YourMusic.com...

For those of you who don't know, yourmusic.com is BMG/Columbia House's attempt to survive in the 21st century. All CD's are $5.99 +tax... shipping included... Double CD's $11.98. The catch is that they force you to keep a queue and be automatically shipped one CD a month. Their selection is good, I don't mind the 'catch', and I'm pretty happy with the service so far. Plug over.

...and they've recently put up a bunch of music guides-- suggested music for different genres and different purposes. And the one that caught my eye was, of course, the guilty pleasures. And here they are:

    ABBA's Greatest Hits
Backstreet Boys - The Hits: Chapter 1
    Hammer - Greatest Hits
    Grease Soundtrack
Meatloaf - Bat Out of Hell
    Wham - Make it Big
Captain and Tennille - Ultimate Collection
    The Carpenters - Love Songs
    Neil Diamond - The Collection
    Poison's Greatest Hits
Hootie and the Blowfish - Best of 1993-2003
    Barry Manilow - Ultimate Manilow

    1. What is your impression of this list? Are any of these your own guilty secrets? Or are you surprised that anyone would even consider any of these guilty pleasures?

    2. What are your own guilty pleasures?

I'm going to throw one out there: Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B.. When I first heard this album, I thought it was the most mind-numbing garbage I'd ever heard. I still stand by that... so why have I recently found myself enjoying it?

Among my techno, AFI, Aerosmith, Velvet Revolver, Bloodhound Gang, etc., I also own...:

    -some smooth jazz
-Mozart (although that's just good music)
    -Jewel's first album
    -two Britney Spears albums
-Charlotte Church's first album (although I don't listen to that one)

I like cheesy 80's positive/fun style rock & roll. I also like movie OSTs like the Star Wars soundtracks, Anime BGMs and Anime songs.

Tom Jones, Justin Timberlake, and the entire Saturday Night Fever always gets me weird looks from my friends. Especially when I go straight from listening to something like Radiohead or Jurassic 5 to "Disco Inferno."

I am completely gay for 90's radio songs, even one's I hated back in the day I love now. I don't know if it's really a guilty pleasure--since I sure as Hell enjoy them.

I have one cd from that list, but I woulden't call it a quilty pleasure as much as I would a kitch object I keep around because it's pretty funny. Guess which one!

I have really broad and diverse tastes in music, so it's pretty hard to have any guilty pleasures. I have something in my collection that would totally alienate everyone I know.

My guilty pleasure, if I have one, would probably be a fairly extensive collection of what I affectionately call my tacky records. For years I've been scrounging thrift stores and used record stores and buying up the worst and weirdest records I can find.

Boston and Foreigner. I don't particularly go out of my way to listen to them but if one of their songs comes up on the radio, I tend to enjoy it.

    80s music is fab!

I'm pretty open to all sorts of music now. Thus, I don't really have any guilty pleasures. I'm absolutely unashamed of still loving Hanson and the Moffatts.

I guess I'm kind of ashamed of all the girly music I listen to. I dig it though, so why should I be ashamed?

    Relax, don't do it..................

For what it's worth, I've had a long-standing adoration for the work of Frankie Goes to Hollywood. >_>

Cyndi Lauper's first album from 1983: "She's So Unusual"

Ah, that album brings back memories of my youth...

Even though im mostly into hard rock/metal (everything from poison and ac/dc to slayer and iron maiden), i have a soft spot for 80s new wave stuff. I also enjoy 80s soft rock as well (well, richard marx and chicago at least).
