    Problems with "Operation Rebirth"(X-Men Evolution)

    Like This Thread!
As I stated in an earlier thread "Operation Rebirth" is my favorite X-Men Evolution episode mostly because it's the only episode that features a non-mutant/X universe guest stars for once, Captain America and Nick Fury . But regrettably it did not come without downsides the whole episode Cap's in coma and as a huge Cap fan, I find that irritating and just a plain-wrong, gross misuse of him in the episode????

When I originally heard Captain America was guest-starring on X-Men Evolution I was ecstatic. I thought I only hope it's not a friggin WW2 flashback episode because whether it's the original X-Men TAS or Spider-man TAS they overuse the WW2 history(move on already) with Cap bigtime and always seem to neglect using his appearance as a kickass, ultimate-human-fighting-machine in current animated continuity. Not only is "Operation Rebirth" a WW2 flashback but Cap's in coma for the whole episode???? Man, does it get any worse than that?? How much better would that episode have been if after the flashback they make it clear that the super-soldier serum could only work on Cap and ANYONE else that tried to recreate it would destroy the user and Cap goes on to team with Wolverine , Nightcrawler and Rogue battling Magneto , Sabretooth and Mystique in the climax?? They DID NOT need to screw with the continuity like that, nor did they need for Cap to be in a coma since WW2??? They're essentially saying he never did ANYTHING since WW2, never joined the Avengers , never fought the thousands of battles he has and NO IMPACT on the Marvel universe since 1942, that's animated liberties that NO ONE should be allowed to screw with. You would think CAP is one person they would be respectful with liberties since he's "Mr. Liberty" himself Captain America ???

My second beef is was that Snakeeyes from GI Joe or Captain America in this episode? Cap never spoke once??? How did anyone miss this?? I'm not saying he should plow in like a Deadpool and berate his enemies but jeez you would think he would utter one word??? Especially when he broke into the Nazi concentration camps/barracks where young Magneto was being held prisoner at least have him say "Everything's going to be okay son, NOW everyone follow me!" NOTHING, he just stares at them and waves his shield and everyone blindly follows after witnessing for the first time some seemingly a mental patient in a American chainmail armored super-hero duds. No bantering with Logan when they first meet or when the serum eats away at him doesn't tell him what's wrong???? Inexcusable!!! WB was obviously too lazy/cheap to cast his voice which makes no sense because they cast Nick Fury's voice. Why not have one of the other regular voice actors try a Cap voice?? NO ONE in the whole cast could pull this off??? Why the hell not use the guy who did his voice from "Old Soldiers" in the original X-Men TAS who also did Cable, you might have noticed. The Steve Rogers I've seen over the years ALWAYS is the man with the plan and moreover let's his allies in on the plan! How angry would people be if when Aquaman (Enemy Below) guest starred on Justice League he came without a voice or never spoke?? Catch my drift, it's a HUUGE mistake on the writers/creators part and they've never been called on it.

The thing I found slightly redeeming among all I ranted about is they said the name Steve Rogers several times which other guest appearances neglect and they left it open for him to show up again being that Wolverine is searching for his cure, SUURRE, just like OJ is searching for the "REAL KILLER"!(JK) I'm curious for those who've seen this episode their opinions or if you like a mute/comatosed Captain America ? In the poll I'm curious as to what animated series in the last twenty years handled Cap the best as a guest star and if you could tell why that would be darling, THANK YOU!!!

That's not my point, I realize continuity liberty is sometimes necessary but in this particular episode their drastic continuity alterations inhibited a rare Captain America guest-spot to be what it potentially could be which is him fighting in their current continuity the WHOLE friggin episode like it ougtta be done. Is that so much to ask they don't keep Cap in a paralysis/coma when he guest-stars?? If you say you enjoyed Cap lying in a freezing chamber rather than in battle for 22 minutes than you must be the Red Skull!

Um, is this a question ? Personally, no, I don't think he was used improperly given his role in the episode. This was never really a Captain America episode, as much as they found a way to integrate him into the story for future use. Being creative, it could be a prelude for many things (as you yourself stated): his own series or another Avengers series. At any rate, I'm positive he'll appear again. It would be a shame if he doesn't.

As far as Cap not having voice, well, that is pretty much their fault, even if they do plan to use the character again, it's not like it would have been inappropriate for him to speak.

Wolverine could be searching for the cure, who knows ? That's might be how Cap is reintroduced as Logan finally discovers it. However with the aftermath of DoR, it's understandable he'd have other priorities.

Actually X-men:Evolution doesn't screw up continunity from waht I heard it restarts the whole Marvel Animated Continunity. Johnny Depp from the way I see it the little guest spot that Cap. America had in Operation Rebirth lefted doors open for a future epsiode with Wolverine and Nick Fury finding a cure (I'm actually work on a fan-fic story about that ) So don't get your hopes crush maybe you could start a petition asking the staff who works on Evo to tie up the loose ends with a storyline (that's what I would do) Anyway I hope this helps and how said that it won't be another Avengers cartoon I think with the Cap. America storyline and with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Evo (remember when they grew up and became good in the comics they joined The Avengers) This just leaves doors open for any possible Marvel toon like Avengers and even a Captain America:TAS

Personally, I'm glad Cap had a minor role in the episode. I watch Evo to see the X-Men, and if I want to see the other denizens of the Marvel Universe I'll watch Spider-Man or The Avengers. And anyway, Cap's coma had a purpose. In Evo, superheroes really don't exist. No Spiderman, no Fantastic Four, etc...if people with powers were constantly in the public's eye, the reaction to the mutants' exposure in DoR wouldn't have been so huge. If heroes like Cap were still around and active, things would be grossly different.

That is the just the X-snob attitude that has bothered me for years, since the X-Men have become bigger than the Marvel Universe that spawned them there's this velvet-rope elitist attitude from both the Marvel brass and their fans who refuse to acknowledge the other Marvel characters. What, because they out sell most of Marvel's titles NO ONE non-mutant is EVER allowed to appear on their TV shows or comic-books, that's ludicrous?? The ego-X-centric mindset of just to make it conducive for our little mediocre animated show's universe we'll totally wipe out the history of Marvel's most historic/rich, iconic character, Captain America, for the sake of ONE 22 minute episode, for convenience, PUKE!!!!! The only purpose for Cap's coma was to water down an otherwise very good episode and fearful Cap would upstage their main characters. It was okay for the X-Men to guest-star on Spider-man TAS during the Mutant Agenda two parter wasn't it, why is that different? That's like movie actors refusing to interact with TV actors at the Golden Globes because they feel they're beneath them.

In the original X-men TAS the mutants were just as hated as they are here and that didn't stop them from bringing in Cap, Alpha Flight, Darkstar, Kazar and endless cameos, not suffering one bit. And here I thought the mutants were the ones supposed to be alienated!

Excellent theory Storm, Wanda and Pietro were in the second Avengers lineup led by Cap along with Hawkeye. But you're right if ANYBODY deserves an animated series from Marvel right now it's Cap! They could do a very easy transition to it off X-Men Evolution(ie Superman TAS to Justice League) but I think we should have heard SOMETHING by now. I'm personally sick of the focus constantly on Spider-man and the X-Men I need some Marvel universe variety and Cap's just the guy!
