So what? Who cares if it is in the same continuity, I just want to watch the show.
Like you all know a CGI animated Spidey series is coming to MTV next year and it may not occur in the film countinuty. heres why the executive producer Brain Bendis said he was going to use the Lizard for the CGI show that means they couldnt tell his orgin in the sequel. the only way theys two could happen in the same countinuty is if they already had Coonors as lizard at the beginning of the film which I doubt. So what do you think?

You know what's funny? Half the people who saw the movie kinda forgotten that there was some significant times between Uncle Ben's death and the first time we actually see the "traditional" Spider-Man outfit. And yeah, Dr. Connors was mentioned briefly in the first film. There are adventures between the two halves of the film that haven't been told, and it's not so farfetched to see them in the animated series.Originally posted by Idiotman

I'm with Vash at this point. Screw continuity. I just want to see the damned show, MTV. Delaying it until next summer (if you believe Wizard) is not the way to go.
What does the X stand for? It's definitely not Extreme. Extreme starts with E.
I thought it was coming out pretty close to the othwer Marvel movies like DD in Feb. Can someone give me a good date on when this movie will be made.
Next summer?!?!? I had heard it had been delayed but geezus @___@
thats insane... -____-
I wonder why they pushed it up so far...

Seriously, 2002 would have been the PERFECT year to premiere a new Spider-Man cartoon. It's the 40th anniversary of the character, the movie was the biggest movie of the year and became the fifth highest-grossing movie of all time, the comics are good again. So . . . thanks to MTV's stupidity, we have been denied North America's first cel-shaded weekly series (correction . . . second. MTV delayed the first CSA series Gate Crashers) for at least another year.

I aren't liking what I have heard of this series so far. Whether it be delays, pop stars doing the voices of the villians (rob zombie as the Lizard?) or it being kept in continuanity with the movie. Do you think the movie producers are going to change their film because a cartoon says so? No chance. Let it have its own continuanity
Uhm.....hmm....let me think for a second.......Originally posted by Idiotman

Uhg......that's just stupid.
Just because the series is based on the movies continuity doesn't mean that the movies are based on the series continuity, smarty pants! Jeeze!! Take this for example, The Real Ghostbusters was based off of the first movie. A LOT of crazy crap happened throughout that series, and many characters were created and "changed" to a point where fans kinda wanted to see these changes in Ghostbusters 2. BUT, Ghostbusters 2 followed the continuity of the first movie, NOT THE TV SERIES. So, while Slimer was suggested as being a "friend" to the GBs in the sequel(the only real change from the series), pretty much everything else was left like it was after the first movie.
Just because the TV series is based on the movie does NOT mean that Spider-Man 2 is going to be based off the TV series. The first movie was seen by...oh, I don't know...EVERYONE? The TV series is going to be seen by...hmm...probably not even a third of those who saw the movie. If the sequal followed the TV series continuity, then those 5-bajillion other people who only saw the first movie will be lost, and therefore will NOT KNOW WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON, and ticket sales will decrease, conciderably less money will be made, children will cry...and......geeze...
this thread is just dumb.....![]()
Of course the people at MTV are idiots. They canceled Beavis and Butthead, claiming it was "too vulgar." Oy... even Ren and Stimpy was worse, man! And let's not forget South Park... thank goodness they *weren't* on MTV... oh, wait, R & S was. And they watered it down worse than Nickelodeon. (*curses them both*) And don't get me started on Toon Disney censoring out scenes from Darkwing Duck, either, scenes that involved guns. COME ON! There are seven-year olds watching Austin Powers 3 in the movie theater!! (*curses Toon Disney, epecially since she doesn't get it*)
Okay, sorry for going off-topic...![]()
Meh, it's more interesting for a series to have different ways of its story being told, as long as the essentials are kept in the story. Let the movie people and the cartoon people go their own ways. Whatevah.
I am mouse, hear me squeak. Chu!
Pinky: "If you could be any animal, what would it be?"
Brain: "Oh, I'd have to say a hawk, Pinky. So I could soar through the sky, catch little white mice in my sharp talons, and feed them to my young."
Pinky: "Ew. That's just weird, Brain."
So that's why continuities are different. To cater to A wider audience. I guess if the Batman movies followede the continuity of the animated series, (Which would've saved the franchise from it's untimely demise, but I'm just guessing.) most of the average people would be lost. (accept the hard core fans who watched it.) I guess it all comes down to which version you like. For me, I rank Batman TAS, and Superman TSA way above the movies, and Spider-Man above the cartoons. Though the 90's cartoon comes A close second because it stayed more true to the drama of the comics than the previous cartoons. Here's hoping that the new Spidey cartoon is good, but since we're dealing with MTV here, I have my doubts. And another thing. Pearl made A good point about how paranoid Di$ney is about editing their cartoons while younger kids go see Austin Powers. What, live action movies can be all they want to be, but cartoons can't?!? The hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me.
Makes me glad I've got most of the Darkwing Duck episodes recorded on video tapes from back in the Disney Afternoon/Saturday Morning days. Still, I've only got less then a dozen episodes of Gargoyles on tape from those days, but I digress.Originally posted by Pearl

Back to the topic at hand: I'm not surprised at all about the continuity change. Like I'd said in another thread, it seemed that they were going to loosely follow the first movie like Batman: TOS did and expand into their own continuity that differs from the sequel films. And I'm split on the celebrity voice actors since it seems like a bad thing on paper, but, then again, who would of thought Luke Skywalker would make such a good Joker?

I really dont care about countinuty. Look at MIB it was based off the movie but made tons of changes and the show still ruled. But any way I have to go off topic on something that has been bugging me for a long time.
This show is going to fail. the reason MTV will find away to ruin it. There going to put every pop, rap, and rocker as voice actors. I swear if they put eminem in there or any nysnc member there will be hell to pay. God I wish this show was going to a channel and had people run it that at least gave somewhat of a damn about the fans and didn't treat this show like a fad like they will.

I doubt that the new Spider Man series will be in the movie's continuity but the series will probably use the movie as a starting point for its continuity. In other words, elements of the movie will probably be used in the series, most likely the Green Goblin design and the organic web shooters. Remember, Batman: The Animated Series used the Batman movies as a starting point for its continunity, most notably in the designs of the Batcave, Batmobile, Batwing, and the Penguin and the mention of "Jack Napier" being the Joker in an episode. It makes sense to use the movies as a starting point because a lot of people seen the movies. But from the starting point of the movies, B:TAS created its own mythology and I expect the new Spider Man series to do the same.

::cough:: mtv, please give the rights of the show to CN, who will then in turn give it too Toonami...and help complete this superhero gap that we've been missing since FOX, and now ABC own the Spidey shows.
Accually....seeing how it came from mainframe, CN would buy it...air it, then hide it for no one to see

Actually, I think that celebrity voice actors are a good idea just as long as they know what they are doing and stay close to their real voices because that's what the creators want.
Yeah, at first I thought the celebrity voice thing was a horrible idea, but I'm anxious to see if it actually works. I mean, if they really are singers, then voice variation shouldn't be too hard, right...?![]()
Later.
Uhm...last I heard the voices are "has-been" actors...
For example: That guy who use to be Doogy Howser is voicing Peter Parker. Don't worry, Eminem wont be voicing anyone. It might just have a GOOD soundtrack, that's all.
Once again...the continuity issue that this thread is based on...it's stupid to question it in the first place. 'duh'....![]()
