Comparing press releases for this DVD and the first one suggests that this runs four minutes shorter, even though they have seven episodes each. Is this a typo, or did Buena Vista cut some parts?

Fortunately, I don't think that's the case. Unfortunately, I think it's a sign that they used the stupid shortened "Nick Fury shills only the Avengers that have movies and completely ignores the others while talking over the awesome theme song" opening on the Volume 4 DVD. Disappointing if true, as I was hoping that the DVD versions would retain the original opening.

I did the math, and the DVD would run 150 minutes if that happened. The back cover says it runs 148 minutes.

Okay, just got my Volume 4 and they DIDN'T use that opening. I wonder why the run time is shorter, then?

That doesn't sound right; the only bonus feature on this DVD runs longer than the only one on the first volume.

Could be two reasons:
1. Do all the episodes have to be the exact same length? Some may have more seconds than others: I'm pretty sure all episodes don't have to be the exact length to the second; maybe when they made the first few episodes of the season, they had a little more footage, to work with the eventual 20 micro-episode format.
2. Those are "approximate" running times. Although I'm not going to specifically time each episode and add them up (I'm way too lazy for that sort of thing), I have seen several other DVDs, both TV shows, and movies with run times that seemed to be a few minutes off from what the box said.
If I had to guess, I'd say it's a combination of both.
I really think this is much ado about probably nothing. If someone can cite something specifically that has been cut, then we can talk some more.
