Seeing hand to hand combat was pretty cool. Looks like developing powers wasnt been the only thing they've been working on. The story was meh, but it was Charlie's Angel-esque chop-schlocky fun. 2.5 stars.
A had a little continuity question though, I remember there was an earlier ep where the Blob had his head shaved. But then they had his mohawk back until Boom Boom chopped it off. Was this ep supposed to air at an earlier date?
And have we seen Amara(sp?) in the show before? I don't remember seeing her before.
The animation was good, but the girls were just being very unlikable here. Jean's tantrum about independence and "you're being...a guy!" was just so out of left field I started wondering if she wasSpoiler:![]()
What is Boom-Boom insinuating with the "yes, it's my real color" crack...and how would she even know?![]()
i gave 4 stars. it was funny.
This was aired out of order. Should've come before "Shadow Dance." If you remember, in this ep, Duncan came running up saying he tickets for the Sadie Hawkins. *next month.* And in Shadow Dance, Jean was griping (I think to Kitty) that Duncan expected her to ask him because he'd bought the tickets in advance. And, of course, there was the whole issue of Fred and his mohawk.Originally posted by Failure

Honestly, I didn't like this much. First of all, the outfits were a little too much. Second, the music video as just a little too schlocky. Third, the battle sequence was OK, but the whole ep just went by too fast. One second, Jean's telling Amara that they're not going to do it again, and next second the music starts playing and Rogue and Kitty are involved. WTH? And I really get peeved when they get a chance to show the Brotherhood and they don't show my boy. That really steams me. I read the article on comics continuum about wanting to do an all-girl ep because they got an extra 4 eps to work with -- well, instead of that hideous "Retreat," why didn't they do an all-BH ep (well, not really all-BH, I guess, but mostly BH with ALL of them in it).
All right. I'm done ranting. I gave this ep two stars. It was better than Retreat but nowhere near as great as Shadow Dance and some of the other early-season eps.

Really? THis looks to be a great episode finally focusing on Wolverine and will feature guest shots by Nick Fury, Captain America, and possibly Sabretooth I think this is awesome! Although, I would like to see more episodes featuring the BH, though. This was definatly a fluff episode in the strongests sense, but it wasn't completely bad.
And I was wondering where Pietro was, too.

Um...unless I'm reading something wrong, isn't Retreat the one where Beast takes some students out in the woods and scientists hunting Big Foot capture him? I think it aired last week or two weeks ago.
Jim, you might be thinking of Operation: Rebirth.
I didn't like this episode all that much, especially that music video thing. That went on way too long. It had some funny lines, but that was about it.

D'OH! I did get those episodes mixed up! I must be losing it in my old age.
I will say that this season has been much. much better than the first season. Heck, we've only seen 10 or so episodes of this season, and they just hand s down beat season 1. Granted, Season 1 had some real good episodes, but this season I think the show has found it's blanace. MIndbender was a great episode, the highlight for me, personally, so far.

Jim, I'm glad to hear you say that. I, too, like this season much more than I liked the first (though there are only a few eps, Mindbender and Shadow Dance being two of them) that beat out The Cauldron as far as best ep in the series goes (IMO, of course). And I, too, can't wait for Operation: Rebirth. I love Wolvie. And I wonder: Will Nick Fury be fronting S.H.I.E.L.D. like he does in Ultimate X-Men? I wonder . . .Originally posted by Jim Harvey

A lot of fans I've talked to seen to dislike this season because it has been rather Spyke-heavy. Now, I LOVE Evan/Spyke (batE ducks flying debris) and, as a result, loved Beast of Bayville and African Storm. But Retreat, which also featured lots of Spyke, was just putrid to me -- as much as I love Beast. I'm hoping that we see more dark eps in Season 3 like Mindbender and that we see a little more BH. If Apocalypse is gonna be in it, maybe we'll see the X-Men and the BH team up to stop him. Now, THAT would be good television

I've been very pleased this be enjoyable when handled good on the series. The Cauldron was definatly a great ending to the first season, even if it wasn't exactly perfect. And I think season three will be a great season. I bet we'l see the two side team up when Apocalypse comes. And I like the idea of them being on the same side eevry once and awhile.

The episode did hint at being an Xmen version of Charlie's Angels and that Batman episode "Girls Night Out". I liked it. I only wish the station it played on didn't have signal problems during the airing (I would curse you WCIU, but then I'd have no place to see KWB shows unless UPN picked up the block and sandwiched it inbetwween reruns of The Three Stooges and that Clueless tv series).
I'm glad they finally said one of the new recruits names enough times for me to remember they had one. But I'm still a little disappointed that the series so far doesn't know whether to showcase the old team or the new recruites and put them in some battles with more action and/or substance. But I'm probably just getting antsy waiting for Apocalypse to show up![]()
I just spent the last few days watching every episode of this season thus far. I must say, I've really enjoyed it. I'm liking the less action-oriented, more character-development that has been most of Season 2. And when they do fight, they know what they're doing, showing that Logan's sessions have been paying off. There's been a good bit of continuity as well, such as the Duncan ticket thing (even though they aired the ep out of order) and Nightcrawler's probation. It gives the show more of a flow, and that I really enjoy.
Can't wait to see an appearance by Apocalypse, hopefully that will show up in Season 3.
And I love the Brotherhood, however sparse they're shown (like them better now than when they were relegated to "the bad guys". now, they're just the outcasts).
Yep the second season is better overall. And I really enjoyed this episode. Kitty could fight!!! Yay!!! Oh and the dancing sequences were good in keeping each character distinct.
The music video segment was kinda fun, but jarring at the same time. However the animation was fabulous! This has to be some of the best animation for an American TV show I seen in a while.
My major dissapointment about this season, which was touched upon briefly in this episode, is the use of Mystique. I like a little mystery and would have preferred that Risty(?), Mystique's secret identity, remain secret. They could provide clues and that would really be a shock to the audience as well as Rogue when the truth would be revealed.

I like the Mystique thing. When the revealed it back in October, I was genuinely surprised - something a show hasn't done for me in a long time. I was caughtr offgaurd. But know that we know, her presence adds a sense of danger now. I wonder if she'll somehow be connected to Apocalypse.

It was a good epsidode, but I was disappointed by it. The whole Charlie's Angels/Girl Power thing got really old REALLY fast...the new costumes were cool, and as always, I love the Brotherhood (Lance!!!) BUT

This is the second time I have seen this episode. The first time I saw it, I hated it like everyone else. But seeing it for the second time makes me at least understand what they were trying to do.
It is clear that with the content in many of the season 2 episodes, they were trying to reach a female audience. Evo does have a large female following, so I guess it worked. Walk on the Wild Side was their most blatant attempt with its girl power and The Craft themes. But this episode is still basically an excuse to do a five minute well animated pseudo music video. I give them credit for trying to at least be different. I think I read that someone who worked on the show wrote the "I am just girl" song and the Walk on the Wild Side theme.
I can see why so many Brotherhood fans hated Tabby. No wonder poor Toad never took a shower.
This episode was pretty good. I give it 4 and 1/2 stars. I liked the animation, it was well done. I liked the nice little "Only a Girl" music video thing also. I wonder where Jubilee and Rahne were durring this whole thing, I'm surprized they weren't invited to come along. I can't belive Tabby would walk into the bathroom while Todd was in there twice, although it was kinda funny. Poor Lance kept getting his jeep jacked. I felt bad for him. Rogue seemed a bit out of character for some reason, but only in a couple of scenes. I liked the twist at the end where the officer turned out to be Mystique.
i gotta admit i liked this episode on first airing anyway. i like it when we get to see a girls night out focus on a superhero team. the only truely painful part of the episode was that forced music video style montage of the assembly of their team. they even went as far as to put red lines where the widescreen bars meets the picture, aping the look of an mtv rap video. i'm not even sure if they knew why they added that red line, but it was very goofy. aside from that, in retrospect, the scene with scott and jean and magma seemed to push the girl power angle a little too hard, but if i had walked in without knowing the premise, it wouldn't have seemed so blatant. and before i forget, magma always looked way way too similar to jubilee. another puzzling choice by another facet of the creative team, designing two nearly identical looking characters. i couldn't tell them apart side by side, hey, even by voice, so that's another weird creative decision made with this show. it really boggles the mind, it's a minor yet terribly confusing decision.
Hmmm, didn't know Evo talkbacks were going on. I should visit this part of the board more often.
Oh joy. Another anti-male episode. It seems that every TV show has one these days. Needless to say,I thought this episode was insanely stupid. The way they had Scott come off as some arrogant punk made him seem completely out of character. And then Duncan comes along and asks Jean out to the Sadie Hawkins Day dance. Those stupid male pigs, huh?The music video suprised the heck out of me(in a bad way), but the blow was softned by the fact that it had some good animation in it. Then there was the fight scene. The only fight scene in the entire series(so far) where blows actually connect. Of course, the fight scene contains a bunch of teenage girls with arms about as thick as pencils verses a large group of buff, hardened criminals....with knives, steel pipes and chains. Not only do the girls win without a scratch, but they've mysteriously become martial arts experts(even the newbies!). On a side note, I wonder why the male members of the Brotherhood haven't tossed Tabitha out yet. The girl's dangerously abusive(witch doesn't even begin to describe her). Maybe, deep down inside, they're all gentlemen(it's hard to belive that about the Blob though).
Anyway, this episode shoved girlpower in my face so much that I think I accidentally became a feminist until 5 minutes after the show. I know I'm going to get into trouble for saying this, but women are the weaker sex. Physically. Only phyisically. And by "only physically" I mean everything else is equal...so please don't kill me. I'd like to think that women are confident enough to not have to be lied to.
I just started watching Evo recently(when CN put it back on weekdays). And I have to say, with the episodes I've seen so far, I am very unimpressed.
