Dan vs. - "The Mall Santa" - Talkback [12/17]

    Like This Thread!

Today @ 8:00 PM ET on The Hub

I loved the Thanksgiving special. Hopefully this special is just as good.

Dan and Chris get holiday jobs at the mall, and Dan dislikes the grumpy Santa working there.

So a new Dan vs. is on tonight - I'll make room in my schedule, then.

I know for that hopefully a Christmas episode of something this crazy and honestly hilarious won't disappoint...

And it (along with this series as soon as I get some cash) will make a great addition to my Itunes collection.

The adult in me thought that Dan was big enough a cynic to not buy into the whole Christmas thing.
The kid in me should have suspected that Dan had enough of a child-like demeanor to believe in Santa Claus at his age.

Awww, he's getting a gift for Mr. Mumbles. Cute.

Santa said "crap" on the Hub. Wow.

Elves who aren't fired with jollyness will be fired...with jollyness.

It's not in the holiday spirit to sneak a peek at one's presents?

Sheesh, who spat in his eggnog?

The animation is improving. I can tell with the background with Dan and Chris in the car.

And what happened then? Well, in L.A. they say the Mall Santa's small heart grew three si--oh, never mind.

    Well, there's a twist.

Santa beating up a small elf. Merry Christmas, kids!

    Nice ending.

That was an enjoyable episode. I don't know how this can get any better than the last episode but it did in my opinion. Aww it looks like Dan is getting a present for Mr. Mumbles, how can things go wrong with Dan...oh, snap of course he's always looking for revenge.

I like how Dan enjoys Christmas even though the Mall Santa is not fond of it. Too bad his long story about not getting an action figure turned him into a grumpy old bully like Dan is. It's nice how Chris was thoughtful of getting the Mall Santa toy for him to cheer him up, but Dan obviously has to ruin his day. Geez the boss lady sure was pompous and serious about all this bickering and fighting the two guys had caused. I admit, that twist about her being the assassin really surprised me for a sec.

Man this "kids show" is really getting more dark and serious than ever, like using the word crap, Dan being descriptive about how he's going to murder that guy, and that huge tree falling on top of the Mall Santa was kinda lethal/life-threatening. Thankfully, that only made him look more agitated than injured.

...and that's why I love this show. Season 2 better be here soon.

This was a great episode. I've said this before, but with each passing episode, I'm more and more convinced that it's the best show on The Hub. Also, in reference to what others have said, I've never considered "crap" to be a swear word. I don't think it is to most people, so I don't know why people are surprised whenever it is said in cartoons. Dan vs. wasn't the first to use it and it certainly won't be the last.

It isn't so much using the word in a cartoon as it is about using the word in a cartoon on a predominantly family-oriented TV network.

Even though many fatal events have happened to characters in Dan VS. (Mike from "The Barber" anyone?), I always get this hint of shock when it still does happen. Like the tree falling on the Mall Santa, I figured that was it, he was done for. He wasn't responding for a long time, I figured, "WELL GEEZE, DAN WON."

Funny to see him pop back up and beat up Dan.

This show does a good job at keeping me guessing on what Dan will like and how he will act. I really figured after the entire speech about Santa and liking Christmas, he was going to be a great Santa at the end. Guess not, haha.

Also, I really enjoy how Mr. Mumbles was a big motivation in this episode. I always love it when that cat shows up since it gives Dan a bit more of a friendly and sweet quality that makes him likable.

Once again, I'm given more encouragement to buy Itunes of this show.

This was a good Christmas episode, but it's usual nicely done/executed material we've who had kept an eye on this show, have come to expect from Dan Vs.

Seeing as Dan has problems with or wants revenge on almost everything and anything, I never expected Dan to be a fan of Christmas.

More-so, I'm glad Dan got revenge on that bum Santa, he more than deserved it!
Even more-so, I'm glad someone took down that employer, too. No one should treat Chris like that BUT Dan. I only wish it had been Elise who had taken her down (even though she thought that "Snowman" person was Chris all along because of that costume, so that's not a big deal).

So, yeah. This didn't disappoint me too much and it felt original to boot. Truly, a victory earned. 4.5/5.

Did anybody manage to read Dan's resume? I paused it and could make out a few words, but The Hub isn't available in HD on DirecTV and I think it would have been a lot more legible if it were.

Finally got a chance to see this tonight and I have to say that it was an interesting twist on the your typical holiday special seen with most shows. Of course, Dan vs. isn't really your typical show to begin with.

I actually found myself going 'What the-?!' at points in the show, especially when Dan (accompanied by Mr. Mumbles) created those darts out of candycanes. Even though it did have the typical 'Dan gets angry and gets revenge' plot like all of the episodes, I was actually glad that Dan got to be Santa at the end...even if he did push the kid off his lap for apparently wetting himself.

I was actually surprised that they twisted the whole 'jerk is actually a torn man' trope just a bit, even for a holiday special. In most specials, the jerk would have gone through something truly HORRIBLE to show the audience that he isn't that bad....but no, the guy just WAS a jerk plain and simple. His only reasons for acting so bad was he didn't get an action figure and not being able to dance so in that fashion, there was no reason to feel sorry for him; he was just a bum. Nonetheless, it was funny to *hear* his off-screen fight with Dan after they got trapped in the snow-globe as well as the entire revelation that Dan used the thing as a gift for Mr. Mumbles. She has to be the luckiest kitten ever!

The only thing that was disappointing to me was Elise's involvement. To me...there wasn't ENOUGH of her! XD Even though I did like the surprise that it was the BOSS who was the spy trying to kill her, I still would have liked it more if Elise would have done some fighting with her, but then again, I did like Elise's concern for the woman after she gets run over only to find that she was indeed the person meant to kill her. The mix-up between 'The Snowman' and Chris was funny though.

I think this was a good holiday special; it wasn't too heavy handed in anyway as a means of playing up to people and it wasn't so satirical that it came off as mean and just unfunny. It was simple yet enjoyable and I liked the fact that despite how bitter, how angry and just how unpleasant Dan is...he still believes in Santa Claus.

Finally getting around to talking about this episode. Thoroughly enjoyed it as it seemed to present a new spin on the whole x-mas episode thing shows usually do. BTW any word on when Season 2 starts?
