BEST. EPISODE. EVER! - Transformers Generation One

Ah, the first Transformers series. There are 98 episodes of pure, unadulterated, nostalgic bliss in this beginning entry to a nearly three decade franchise. But we are here to honor our most favorite of the batch. These are the episodes that truly exemplify the best of G1 Transformers, whether it be for novel or noble reasons. For this entry, HellCat and Juu-kuchi both look at their favorite episodes of the series, and we invite you to debate if they are good examples or if you can choose better.

    So without further ado...

Sheesh, what a coincidence! That's my favorite as well!

It may be a bit cheesy, but I dug the fights and the foreboding ending. I think that's why I liked Season 1 of G1 the best, just the pure straight-forward battles between Bots and Cons.

Of course, Season 2 always had the better intro.

"War Dawn" and "Heavy Metal War" were both good episodes. I don't know if I'd have them up at the top of my list though. As far as individual episodes go, I think I might have to go with "Dark Awakening." The creators of the show kill Optimus Prime, bring him back to life, and supposedly kill him all over again. It's not the greatest thing ever created, but it was always my favorite.

"The Ultimate Doom" three part story is definitely my favorite story in the original Transformers cartoon. I don't know, I guess I really enjoy the end of the world stories in my action cartoons. I remember as a child making my mom take me to the video store that was further from our house so that I could rent that episode. Fortunately for me, I have the greatest mom in the world.

Meh to me the show went downhill past the More than Meet the Eyes pilot.

The Ultimate Doom wasn't that bad though, the plan was crazy enough.

You mean the one where Galvatron's crazy is too much and infects a planet? After they tried to lobotomize him? and then he goes and kill it?!

Are you me? I love that episode and I don't know why. I also prefer Season 3 to any of the other seasons of the show. The animation was wretched but the stories were more interesting.

Assuming those questions aren't theoretical, "Webworld" is the one where all of that happens.

That being said and so, I have to agree with those that said "Webworld." Nutty Galvatron is one of my favorite characters, and the reason why is that he's so frickin entertaining to watch. And this episode just so happens to showcase nutty Galvatron in all his crazy glory. I can't help but love it.

I'm also quite fond of "The Master Builders" due to the fact that Hoist is one of my favorite characters, and this is the episode. I believe, that does the best job of showcasing Hoist's personality. Sure, there may be "Hoist goes Hollywood" and Hoist just plays a supporting role to Grapple in this episode, but as I said before, this episode does the best job of showing what Hoist is like. Plus, the only episode, I believe, that mentions Hoist's true job: maintenance/check-ups. All the other episodes just shows him doing repairs.

Anyways, I have to agree with the poster that said that season three was their favorite season. Not only were the stories more interesting, it also had the cast that I liked the most of all the seasons.

There's just something I don't like about the third season... not sure how to best articulate it. I sure don't like Quintesssons. I certainly like the Primus related mythology much better than the Quint.

I guess I just feel the antagonists lacking. Galvatron is fun but he's not really a charismatic leader like Megatron and the Decepticons are just a rag tag of thug and don't feel like that much of a threat to me.

Webworld to me is just "BLAH BLAH BLAH CRAAAAAZY GALVATRON! BLAH BLAH CRAZY ALIEN! BLAH BLAH BLAH CRAAAAZY GALVATRON! BLAH BLAH BLAH! GALVATRON KILLS EVERYONE BLAAAAAARG!".

I'm not really a fan of 'Webworld' either, I just never dug crazy Galvatron (slightly better in the comics), and everything spirals out of control too early in that episode.

Also, 'Hoist Goes Hollywood' features the robots being forced to wear ugly alien masks and play second fiddle to a terrible supemodel actress.

... eerily reminiscent of a certain director's trilogy, don't you think?

I don't hate Season 3, but the comics, at least once Simon Furman took the wheel, just create something so much more bigger and epic than the cartoon did at that point that's it's not even funny. Galvatron was pretty mad in the comic as well, but it was a calculated insanity. Hell, his motivations actually made a lot more sense especially during the Matrix Quest arc.
