I've been underwhelmed by Prime.
Note: I actually am underwhelmed, not just whelmed.
The complexity and usage of characters in G.I. Joe has far exceeded my expectations. I dare say its in the same ballpark as JLU was for CN.
G.I. Joe Renegades
Transformers Prime
Which hasbro series do you prefer? I'd have to say renegades. Prime suffers from a much-too-serious tone (not that renegades is a comedy, but at least its not as dead serious) and not enough action (the action scenes ARE good when we get them, but theres also way too much scheming and planning, paticularly by the decepticons). Plus, renegades has a much more intriguing plot (Cobra is a benevolent company on the surface, but outside of the public eye, theyre pure evil) while Prime is the same autobots vs decepticons plot we've been getting since 1984. Dont get me wrong, i like prime, but if it came down to it, i'd pick renegades.

Renegades by far. Prime isn't a bad show so far but it's not anything special either. Renegades on the other hand might be the best G.I. Joe series to date. It's certainly the best revamp the show has ever received. It's a shame that it's going to get stopped in it's tracks because the next movie isn't coming any time soon. Meanwhile Prime gets most of The Hub's love because Dark of the Moon is coming this year.

I'm not a fan of the animation of either show, but the storylines are much better in Renegades. I wouldn't say I hate Prime, but I've fallen asleep a few times watching it.
I stopped following Prime after episode 6 or 7. I thought some of the action is pretty cool in spots but other than those brief moments, it doesn't do anything for me. The voice cast has some of my favorite VAs though.
Renegades is much more interesting to me.

I've DVR'd 5 eps of both series during their previews back in November. I guess due to growing up with transformers(especially beast wars/machines, R.I.D, Cybertron Trilogy), it was easier to slip into Prime. It feels so amazingly cinematic. Your just sucked right in.
Gi.Joe is cool. Caught a couple eps here and there over the years. Sigma6 was "okay". Movie was Michael Bay craziness(a good thing imo) Yet the animation for Renegades has put me off a bit. I'll still watch it eventually, but I feel no desire to run to the tele and start up the latest ep. I think its more of a shout out to the 80s kids. :P
Anime currently watching:
Hanasaku Iroha , Gad Guard, Birdy the Mighty, Eden of the East, Chromo Shelled Regios
It was hard for me to get past the animation of GI Joe at first too, but after hearing Jeff Kline's cometary on why they went for that art direction, I have to agree it really works.
If you take a look at the animation style in GI Joe, they are careful to fade out things that are out of focus on purpose and there's almost always story line clues if you watch it closely.
The animation style is supposed to suggest ambiguity more then anything else and I think its helping the series along AFTER knowing their reasoning.
The problem that some people are having getting into it, is its really hard to convey the reasons for that animation style unless you sit down and watch the commentaries on it.
Overall, I don't think I can deny that it would probably be easier for everyone to get into the series if they used Resolute's art style. I do have to say, I think I like most the characters better so far with the current design though. This art style always makes you feel theres more then meets the eye (no puns intended) with each character.
G.I.Joe Renegades all the way. I never got past Episode 2 of Transformers Prime, but this latest G.I.Joe incarnation has become one of my current favorites. There's an off episode here and there, but for the most part the storytelling and characterization are top notch. One thing's for certain, if Hasbro goes back on their commitement to reviving the series after the movie comes out, I will be seriously ticked.
R.I.P. Batman: The Brave and the Bold - November 14, 2008 to November 18, 2011. May Beware The Batman strive to be even half as entertaining.
Renegades, mostly because there just seems to be more actual plot happening. Transformers has been a bit too slow moving with some unnecessary deaths. Don't think either are that great though.
I went with Transformers. Prime's animation is amazing, and they have decent stories. I also enjoy how the kids aren't a huge plot device in this series of Transformers. Prime is still introducing all the villains, and once they are all introduced, you know the series will improve.
GI Joe has lousy animation but has better scripts. the problem is they have aired renegades out of order, which actually has turned me away from the series some. Renegades has been airing longer than Prime, which has given it a chance to win more fandom than Prime has. Yet I can't help but feel that Renegades has been extremely rushed. I also don't like how they are reintroducing all the characters. That actually is making the plot drag out longer than it needs to.
Both series are great in their various aspects, and I am a fan of both series, as these are the two original series that got me into cartoons in the first place. Still, Prime seems to relate a little more with the other Transformers series than Renegades, which makes me like it a bit more. Overall I actually feel the two are about even.

Beware The Almighty Hammer Gun!
I went with Prime. The animation is so much better, and while the script might be more dull, Pime makes up for it with cool fights and action sequences. I just enjoy it more.

GI Joe is clearly the superior series writing wise, but Prime is simply more fun to watch and I think that counts alot in kid's cartoons.
I have to give it to prime.
First in terms of story... While GI JOE rengades might have a more complex storyline going on, I also find a lot more faults in it and those faults have a way of nagging at me. For instance, it bugs me a lot to think about the number of ways they could have or should have been able to expose cobra; i mean their mission would be done if they did nothing more than bring a a simple camcorder with them on their missions; optionally if they carried around an audio recorder they might get a recording of baroness saying something self-incriminating. Prime does have its own share of problems, but not as many that nag at me and that allows me to enjoy it more
Animation... Prime by far. Though the humans could use a little work, the transformers themselves have some really appealing animation work going for them for the most part. Gi Joe on the other hand is just so terrible. The character designs are very dull and boring while the animation can often feel very stiff Especially when it comes to the characters expressions.
In terms of actions scenes, again i enjoy prime more... Rengeades has more action scenes but i feel the scenes in prime are more enjoyable. i think Snake eye's is the only Joe i really enjoy seeing in action. Frankly i just think a lot of primes action scenes have a great sense of impact during their fights.
And one thing i can't help but mention with Prime is the music... Seriously for a lot of western series it is so easy for me to gloss over the music not even paying attention to it as i watch the action and yet with prime i can really feel the epic vibe going on during a lot of these sequences. Word is there WILL be an official soundtrack coming out; though no clue as to when exactly... This is another part of why i enjoy the action scenes in Prime more than Renegades; epic soundtrack and sound design can add ALOT to an action scene
That i can agree with. Personally i have been enjoying a lot of the reinterpretation that's been going on such as cobra starting out as a world wide industry and a lot of retakes on the villains (less enthusiastic about the heroes).Originally Posted by Andrew T. Hingson
Though I would also say that Prime is shaping up to be one of the better series in the franchise. Though prime has some pretty stiff competition coming from the likes of Beast wars and Animated... Not to mention that one thing i'm liking about prime is that this is one of my favorite incarnations of Starscream... I mean honestly he's actually comes off competent enough to be a good leader unlike all of the others; his main problem is that no one will give him that kind of respect and the universe hates him giving him little to work with... So far I'm still on the fence of the humans, but they've atleast done well to avoid being a constant annoyance unlike many other transformers series
Like a good chunk of other posters, I'm going with Renegades. Out of the two, I find Renegades story more interesting and better written. Plus, for the most part, I could care less when it comes to the characters of Prime. It doesn't help at all that Optimus Prime is a fairly bland character, and I'm still kind of miffed by what they did to Wheeljack.
While I never cared for the Joes themselves, Cobra does interest me, and I'm interested to see how things are going to turn out.
Prime just feels too cheap to me. Only a handful of robots with speaking roles. Only a handful of locations. The action scenes actually feel like filler, and the plotting has been dull thus far.
I've enjoyed G.I. Joe a lot more. More and better fleshed-out characters, the show isn't locked down in one set of locations, and much better writing overall. The animation may not be the best, but it gets the job done and balances out with the series' pros.

I'm going with Renegades. Mainly for the better writing, though I think the shows have some of same production crew working on them. I've always been partial to GI JOE more than Transformers though. I enjoy both Prime and Renegades however.

I perfer Transformers Prime because I'm mainly a Transformers kind of guy. But I do enoy Renegades for what it's worth. In my opinion Transformers Prime is what the live-action films should have been , focused more on the robots and less on the humans. The animation is also really incredible especially on the bots, noticing all that metallic paint and little things, like wheels turning while in robot mode. I also enjoy the voice acting as well , my favorites being Arcee, Racthet, Bulkhead, Starscream, Megatron, and ofcourse Optimus.
Now in Renegades defense, I do love that there introducing us to the characters we've come to know and love for the first time. Giving us origins of characters like Destro, Major Blood, and Zartan, and introducing new joes like Wild Bill, Snow Job, Barbaque, and Breaker. Like Transformers Prime, I really love the voice acting on this show, my favorite being Charle Adler as Cobra Commander.
But like I said I'm a Transformers fan first and formost, so thats why I perfer Transformers Prime.
