    G.I. Joe Renegades - "Whiteout" - Talkback [03/25]

    Like This Thread!

Today @ 6:00 PM ET on The Hub

It's unfortunate that this series may more-or-less be over. They haven't cancelled it, but even if it resumes after the hiatus, it will take even more time in production and it would be 2012-2013 by the time new episodes return. Hasbro says Renegades has enough new episodes to run through the summer, but still. I liked it far more than Transformers Prime.

The prototype Shadow-Vipers and Storm Shadow follow the Joes to Canada, where they are hiding out with Snow Job.

A pretty good episode though more so for Tunnel Rat, Snow job and the Action and not so much for Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow... really did enjoy how they handled snow job in this episode

I really do have to wonder about the fate of Tomax and Xamot. Right now they are just being used to power the hive mind mental commands that Mindbender put together, but i would really want to see them be upgraded to more proper members of cobra.

About the hive mind, one thing that did annoy me was a bit of false hype; namely his claim that the ninja vipers were essentially copies of Storm shadow, but when it comes down to it, Storm shadow would not have been hit as often and probably would have done a better job fighting the joes. Though atleast their regeneration helps keep them coming off as a threat... they don't die, and as such running is the only real option. Though the joes do bring up a point, you would think that Storm shadow would bring a long some of his real ninja buddies while hunting down Snake eyes

This episode reminded me of the trouble that i had with a significant part of snake eye's past being revealed early on. There was nothing really going on between these two ninjas other than fighting; if their past had remained shrouded then their interaction could have been spiced up by giving us hints to what their past was.

This was a great episode, but I can’t help but feel… less invested in the series because of the news about the future of the franchise. If they wanted to drop the “renegade” angle, they could easily have the Joes clear their name and form the traditional organization with all of the allies they’ve made through the series. Regardless, the next new episode is on the 15th, titled “Shipwrecked”. My favorite toy as a child was one of Shipwreck, the same version that was used for Stinky Diver on Action League Now. I think it’s safe to say that ol’ Shipwreck is going to show up in that episode. I’m looking forward to it.

Ditto. May it not have been planned, but animated!

I assumed that the other ninjas are leaving Storm Shadoww to his own beef. Or he ordered them to stay out of the picture. Anyway, about the shadow vipers, I think once the king bee realizes just what he has at his disposal they'll be a truely dangerous force.

I didn't really think of it as a downer, just wasn't keen on the Arashikage episodes' structure.

I mostly agree with you, HOWEVER, if this is the only season we're getting for Renegades, and if there are only 11 (I think?) episodes left, well lets just say that it's a good thing they got to the ninja backstory sooner rather than later. I'd like to see the final few episodes of the show really tell one unified story, where the whole conflict all comes together. That wouldn't work as well if it was interrupted by a ninja history lesson.

And thank goodness they didn't save that story for season 2!

As for Snow Job, he definitely was one of the better fleshed out supporting Joes that we've met on this show. He got a decent history and introduction, and was given a fair amount of time to shine at the end. (And Timber was a pleasant surprise. I really didn't see that coming at all!)

One last thought: in last week's episode thread, I complained about too many episodes with the Baroness, and said they needed to give her a break and show other villains instead. I'm completely changing my mind this week! With the news that Renegades is likely coming to an end, I now have no great desire to see lots of new characters introduced that we'll never get a follow-up on. The show has given us a relatively unified and tight core of characters (for both heroes and villains), and if their time is limited, I'd just as soon focus on them as much as we can. (Nothing wrong with introducing new side characters like Snow Job and Shipwreck, so long as the core characters are still the focal point of each episode's story.) So yeah, I'm definitely changing my mind. I want to see as much as possible of the main characters, since it's pretty much now or never for them.

And speaking of which, I know I mentioned above that ninja flashbacks and origins might detract from a unified final few episodes of the show, but I wouldn't mind seeing a flashback to some point where Scarlett and General Abernathy decide that they need to investigate Cobra Industries. That could fit in well with a big assault on Cobra, since it was basically what set the whole storyline for this show in motion.

It's good to see Cobra is getting enough "named" characters that they can now start combining their talents in unique ways. We saw a little bit of that with Destro and Mindbender reluctantly creating the Mecha-Vipers together, but the Shadow Vipers would have been impossible without Storm Shadow, Mindbender, and the twins all contributing to the project.

I found Roadblock's "workin' on the van" montage to be hilarious. Not sure why.

I think it's been implied that Storm Shadow isn't getting the rest of his clan involved because, as much as he wants to believe Snake Eyes killed his uncle, he knows that there might be another explanation, and that would be inconvenient for him.

With Snake Eyes its personal I guess.

Another reference toward Scarlett/Snake Eyes this week. So once again I hope they aren't teasing us with that and dangling the carrot in front of us for nothing. I won't accept "He's like my brother" .

OK, why would Snow Job not join the team? Would he not serve a purpose or be helpful without snow and a cold climate? Just seems like Snow Job is easy pickings if he's on his own. Snow Job is basically a fugitive now and his home was blown up. Not like he's got another place to go.

I get the logic. They want to keep the basic cast small so Cobra will always seem to have the advantage and the Joes are overmatched, but its almost becoming inexplicable.

Is he? I think the only person who saw him aiding the Joes was Storm Shadow, and I doubt that guy plans to testify against anyone.

He was in public with the Joes. Someone else could've spotted them. :anime:

Timber was a nice and pleasant surprise. For a while, I thought that he would never appear. But now he's appeared, I guess there's a good chance that Polly's going to appear with Shipwreck.

Anyways, while I watched the Sunbow cartoon mostly for Cobra, Snowjob was one of the Joes I could care less about. But I did like this incarnation of him. I'm not sure if was because I sort of liked his grumpy persona or what not.

On the other hand, with the way the twins are being treated, plus the fact that Storm Shadow was more than willing to kill off Dr. Mindbender so quickly makes me wonder if we're going to get a possible enemy civil war in the future. We already know that Destro hates Dr. Mindbender's guts and probably has less than pleasant feelings towards Cobra. I won't be surprised if a fight breaks out within Cobra.

I enjoyed the episode, but it annoyed me that they didn't just call Frostbite by Iceberg instead. It would have made more sense.

Is it wrong that I kept thinking about that G.I. Joe PSA parody with Snow Job when I saw this episode?

This episode is really supposed to take place some time after "Brothers of Light", right? I know the true episode order was revealed in February, but I thought I remembered "White Out" being placed before "Brothers of Light" on that list, with three other episodes between them. Ever since I learned about the true order, I've been recording the episodes but waiting until "Brothers of Light" came on to watch them so I could see them in the order in which they were meant to be seen.

As I watched, I saw that Tomax and Xamot were seen in this episode in the beginning, and then I came to "Brothers of Light" and saw that they were more active in that episode. Considering what Dr. Mindbender did to them at the end of that episode, I think it would make sense for this episode to take place after "Brothers of Light".

Anyway, now that I've seen the episodes in the order in which they were supposed to take place (or so I think), the series does seem to flow much better, and I'm also enjoying it more than Transformers Prime.

This was aired, and does take place after "Brothers of Light".
