R.I.P. Batman: The Brave and the Bold - November 14, 2008 to November 18, 2011. May Beware The Batman strive to be even half as entertaining.
Tomax and Xamot are Scientologists eh?
pretty creepy episode just the way the twins should I hope to see them again
also did anyone else notice the locket scarlet pulled out when the twins were mindreading her
I was happy to see a new episode, felt like we haven't seen one for a while. I'm not super keen on the whole cult/Tomax and Xamot as psychics angle, but it was alright. I liked that Snake Eyes couldn't be brainwashed by the mind control and Tunnel Rat was smart enough to just avoid it all.
There continues to be a subtle closeness between Scarlett and Snake Eyes. Notice how Snake Eyes let Scarlett be the one to remove his visor when we know even the visor hides part of his ruined or deformed face which Scarlett already knows about. I hope all the hinted closeness with Scarlett and Snake Eyes is not for nothing. I would take it as a huge olive branch for what I had to put up with in RISE OF COBRA.

Great episode. Nice to see Tamox and Xamot appear on the show.
The brainwashed members of their cult were kinda creepy, but I thought the ending with the twins and Mindbender was creepier.
"Are you insinuating that I may have previous knowledge as to the outcome of this imbroglio?" - Top Cat
"With great powers comes great responsibility... and free peanuts." - Johnny Bravo
"Faster than a regular sheep... More powerful than a regular sheep... Able to leap a regular sheep in a single bound." - Sheep in the Big City
Pretty creepy. I guess the whole cult thing and people being brainwashed into being Tomax's and Xamot's servants just screamed creepy and wrong to me. Though, in this case, Tomax and Xamot seemed to be brainwashing people just to steal their money. So, I guess in this universe, Tomax and Xamot have physic powers. It'll be interesting to see how they use those powers in the future. Also, caught a reference/shout out of sorts when the twins called the brainwashed Joe troops the Crimson Guards. I wonder if we'll see the real things in the future.
A closeness between Scarlett and Snake Eyes was also hinted at in Rise of Cobra in two scenes early on in the movie.
-Snake Eyes giving Ripcord a rather "pointed" warning when he first tried to flirt with Scarlett.
-Scarlett briefly resting on Snake Eyes' shoulder at Joe HQ.
But in hindsight, though, it really was confirmed later on in the movie when Scarlett finally told Ripcord that she and Snake Eyes were indeed close, but their relationship wasn't a romantic one...
"Give a monkey a brain and he'll swear he's the center of the universe..."
This never happened in the movie and Ripcord NEVER questioned Scarlett's relationship with Snake Eyes or pondered over what it was.
The movie sort of hinted at a bond between the two but it did nothing with it and instead Scarlett was romantically wooed by Ripcord. Scarlett even goes so far as saying emotional attachments are illogical and irrational even though she apparently has a close friendship with Snake Eyes. So it makes stupid dialogue scenes like that make no sense.

It happened in the original script, but my main point was that the writers and producers of the movie were aware that were was a relationship between Scarlett and Snake Eyes from the comic books, but they weren't going to make it a romantic one:
SCARLETT:
We're not a couple. Snake-Eyes and
me. We're... close, he's like a
brother, but... we're not a couple.
Ripcord looks back at her, nods, then walks on out.
That last bit of dialogue may have been left on the cutting room floor, but it does show the Scarlett & Snake Eyes bond was taken into consideration while the movie was being made.
I didn't say he did.and Ripcord NEVER questioned Scarlett's relationship with Snake Eyes or pondered over what it was.
Actually, it does. If Scarlett was a stick-in-the-mud who wasn't one for romantic relationships, that made her fair game (and a too-tempting challenge) for a flirt like Ripcord. The movie sort of hinted at a bond between the two but it did nothing with it and instead Scarlett was romantically wooed by Ripcord. That's not the same thing. According to your post you said, in the movie. It didn't happen or take place in the actual movie at all.
SCARLETT:
We're not a couple. Snake-Eyes and
me. We're... close, he's like a
brother, but... we're not a couple.
Ripcord looks back at her, nods, then walks on out.
This doesn't count really because it wasn't in the movie. However this became known to fans beforehand and it also caused similar fan outrage. I was already aware of this line but it was never addressed in the movie at all because I think Hasbro knew how much it would tick the fans off. Damage control.
Again I was aware of all of that. And my basic point is if Renegades does the opposite, I would consider it penance and an olive branch for what fans put up with the execrable Rise of Cobra movie. That last bit of dialogue may have been left on the cutting room floor, but it does show the Scarlett & Snake Eyes bond was taken into consideration while the movie was being made.
No it makes no sense for Scarlett to say emotional attachments and relationships are illogical and irrational when she clearly shares a bond/friendship with Snake Eyes even if its not romantic and completely platonic.Actually, it does. I thought this was an okay episode, but I don't care for Tunnel Rat, so an episode about him kinda made me groan at first. Still, it was better than I thought it would be.
Random quote (changes once in a while)
"I have sacrificed much to achieve peace. So too must a new generation sacrifice to maintain that peace. Responsibility! Duty! Honour! These are not mere virtues to which we must aspire! They are essential to every soldier, to every king!"

Actually, what I said was
But in hindsight, though, it really was confirmed later on in the movie when Scarlett finally told Ripcord that she and Snake Eyes were indeed close, but their relationship wasn't a romantic one...
Granted, I see now that I accidentally omitted a word in my initial post--which kind of explains where you're coming from--but my main point still stands that the Scarlett and Snake Eyes relationship wasn't ignored in the movie.
It counts as far as my point that "they" were aware of the Scarlett and Snake Eyes bond. This doesn't count really because it wasn't in the movie.SCARLETT:

I don't think Hasbro cared one way or the other. They hear fanboys moan about this or that all the time--it didn't stop Transformers or Transformers 2. What really matters to them are toy sales, not internet message board squabbles about the treatment of a particular character. However this became known to fans beforehand and it also caused similar fan outrage. I was already aware of this line but it was never addressed in the movie at all because I think Hasbro knew how much it would tick the fans off. Damage control.
I don't think any penance or olive branch is necessary, but then I liked Rise of Cobra and liked the different spins with the characters. Enough other people liked it too to warrant a sequel.
Again I was aware of all of that. And my basic point is if Renegades does the opposite, I would consider it penance and an olive branch for what fans put up with the execrable Rise of Cobra movie.
You do know that Scarlett was playing hard to get with Ripcord, don't you?No it makes no sense for Scarlett to say emotional attachments and relationships are illogical and irrational when she clearly shares a bond/friendship with Snake Eyes even if its not romantic and completely platonic.Actually, it does. "Give a monkey a brain and he'll swear he's the center of the universe..."
It doesn't really matter since Scarlett and over half the cast of GI JOE aren't even going back to do the sequel. Hasbro even said they were disappointed with the movie and the toys and that "they could do better."

If Rachel Nichols' tweet about G.I. Joe 2 was accurate, the only characters returning will be Duke, Snake Eyes, and Storm Shadow.
"Give a monkey a brain and he'll swear he's the center of the universe..."
I also did want to mention the dedication to designer and artist, Clement Suave at the end. I knew Clement because he would exchange posts with us on the GI JOE Hiss Tank forums. I just found out he died less than two months ago due to cancer. I had no idea he was ill and feel really bad that I missed reading about his death. Clement was a great artist and he left us way too young.
RIP Clement Suave.

The cult that those twins had going on was pretty creepy. I wonder if any of those people in the cult will get their money back? I think only Cobra would, and if anything would just take all the money the twins had.
It was funny how quickly that one guru switched up his accent once he realized he was caught. That scene reminded me a lot of a similar one in Young Justice. The fact that Mindbender walks around with that big taser is just a testament to how crazy he is. That and the experimenting he did on the brothers. I know they rip-offed a lot of people, but wow that was a harsh fate.
TunnelRat is quickly becoming my favourite Joe. Loved it when he said that he'd rather keep his paranoia. Good thing since, it's not really paranoia if everyone really is out to get you. I also liked his parkour like abilities to climb up the wall to talk to that prisoner, as well as using them to avoid the brainwashed Joes.
Snakeyes is still awesome. I had a feeling he was faking being brainwashed.
