It’ll be interesting to see what Lauren Faust can do with the property. Admittedly, I don’t expect to be a regular viewer of the series, but I will catch the multi-part episode that launches the series and if it surprises me perhaps I will call myself a fan. Either way, its opening looks nice and it has a catchy theme song, which leaves a good first impression.

    Nice.
Turns out the promo I saw at the Hub Experience at Comic-con is actually the theme song/ OP intro.
Nice to finally hear the audio for it.

I have to admit it, I want to watch this show. Just because I was a fan of the '80's/'90's series back in the day.

I just found it on my DVR's program guide.

    The description reads:
After trying to warn Princess Celestia about the return of the wicked Night Mare Moon, Twilight Sparkle and Spike travel to Ponyville where they meet Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Fluttershy.

Speaking of ok sounding, I'm going to hold judgement on the new MLP show until I hear the ponies speak. As long as the character voices don't sound sickeningly sweet, goofy, or like chalk on a blackboard, I'll be watching.

Ultra 8, who is the cable provider for your DVR? I checked the program guide on my box, but couldn't find the title. Or maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

All of the videos has info on each of the main characters (plus mentor). From what I can tell, the animation is pretty good.

I thought so to, surprisingly the old show had a lot of vile villians that were memorable. As far as other G1 ponies according to a blog note from Lauren Faust's deviantArt page
"Except for Applejack and Spike, Hasbro lost all the copyright and trademark rights to all the names from characters in the 80's, so I couldn't bring back anyone but those two."
So much like Hotrod/Rodimus from Transformers they can use the same designs and styles but can no longer use the original names.(not that that can't be worked around)

Ms. Faust shouldn't feel too bad about that, since really, for the most part, the Little Pony characters were all pretty much blank slates. Sure, there were a couple of somewhat noteworthy Ponies in the franchises' various productions, but no long-standing, instantly identifiable identities that stuck around throughout like on Hasbro's other franchises.

On G.I. Joe the mainstays are Duke, Flint, Snake Eyes, Scarlet, Cobra Commander, Destro, The Baroness, Stormshadow, etc. On Transformers, you had Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, etc. But My Little Pony never had any mainstay characters. Furthermore, the Pony cast (save for Spike, Megan, Danny, Molly and the Moochick) would change from special to movie to TV show. Firefly, Medley and Ember were prominent in the 1st special, but they were never seen again afterward. A pony named Sundance had a fairly prominent role in the 2nd special, but after that she was never seen, referred to or heard from again. Characters like Windwhistler, Fizzy, and Heartthrob were regulars in the syndicated MLP series, but weren't prominent anywhere else.

So if Lauren can establish some long-standing identities for any of the Pony characters, she'll be doing something which hasn't really been done before.

That's too bad. I'd have loved to see Wind Whistler, Gusty, and Buttons in this new show.

Interestingly, the My Little Pony characters never faced a single recurring nemesis, except for the witches, who appeared in the MLP movie and again in the My Little Pony & Friends 10 part story, "Return to Flutter Valley", IIRC.

Actually, it was called "The End of Flutter Valley".

As for this show, I've never heard of this Lauren Faust, but I'm sure it will be a good show. I've said this before, but I wonder if there will be musical numbers?

FTR, Lauren Faust is the wife of Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends creator Craig McCracken. Faust has written numerous episodes of both shows, and is also the creator of the fairly popular Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls web project. The character of Frankie from FHFIF is loosely based on Lauren.

As for whether or not there will be musical numbers, I kind of hope not, but on a show of this nature, it seems very likely. If there are songs, I hope the producers at least won't feel the need to squeeze them into every show.

I hope that if they do add musical numbers, they'll be plot relevant and not just there for the sake of it being My Little Pony.

The 80's series had a mixed bag of good/nauseatingly cheerful songs. If they integrate the numbers in like 'Return of Tambelon' (Escape; Let Freedom Ring) or 'Ghost of Paradise Estate' (If I Were You; You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet) where the numbers actually moved the plot along, I'm all for it.

Well from what I heard Ms.Faust and many of the animators and staff are fans of the old show or toyline. So you may still get to see them, they just won't have the same name or they may be limited to crowd cameos.

The forum-goers at MLPA are already trying to crowd spot they're favorites.

I heard there was going to be some songs but I'm not sure if it's going to be an every episode thing like the old series.
