Not to mention the largest manufacturer of alcohol in the colonies and being one of the humblest rich guys in history. Washington is the definition of greatness for me, which I will add more examples as the competition goes on.
-
Charles Darwin: Regardless of your belief (or lack thereof) in his theory, his contributions to modern science cannot be ignored.
William Shakesphere: Never been a huge fan of his material, but the guy's a literary legend.
Douglas MacArthur: Played a highly important role in winning WWII, but doesn't quite match up to the competition here.
Fritz Lang: Never seen his movies.
Barnum Brown: One of paleontology's greats deserves at least one vote. Besides, without him, scenes such as these might not have been possible:

Edgar Allen Poe: Another literary legend.
Duke of Wellington: Did the world a favor.
Muhammad Ali: Meh. Boxing's never interested me much.

William Shakespeare- 14
Charles Darwin- 10
Fritz Lang- 7
Douglas MacArthur- 5
Well, unless Huntsman is a big Lang fan, this match goes to Shakespeare and Darwin. I did think it was weird for a moment that Darwin would lose in round 1, but this means I have to find a picture that's big enough and has his beard.
Edgar Allan Poe-14
Muhammad Ali- 7
Duke of Wellington-7 (but never placed in first)
Barnum Brown-6
Again, unless Huntsman is a major Wellington fanboy and posts in the next two hours, then this goes to Poe (How unexpected! Who would ever think he was this popular!
) and Ali, following the Cartoon's system.
In match one...
... the man who saved his uncle's company twice...

Roy (E.) Disney
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_E._Disney
...the first historian...

Herodotus
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herodotus
... a protector of his family...

Robert Kennedy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_F._Kennedy
...and a Belgian comic book creator.

Edgar Jacobs
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_P._Jacobs
The match afterwards contains....
...the greatest Hawaiian of all time (sorry if I misspelled)...

Kamehameha I
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamehameha_I
...the man considered by many to be the best comic writer of the Golden Age...

William "Bill" Finger
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Finger
... the writer of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King...

Ernst Theodor Wilhelm (E.T.A.) Hoffmann
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._T._A._Hoffmann
...and the guy who composed Godzilla.
(his image didn't load)
http://www.akiraifukube.org/ifukube_score.jpg
Akira Ifukube
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akira_Ifukube
Roy E. Disney
Herodotus
Robert Kennedy
Edgar P. Jacobs
Kamehameha I of Hawaii
Bill Finger
E.T.A. Hoffmann
Akira Ifukube
1. Roy E. Disney- This guy was in a way the last Disney and so I felt like I was watching my grandfather on screen. Fittingly, they died within days of each other.
2. Herodotus- Without him, we might not be having this thread!
3. Robert F. Kennedy- I wouldn't mind him moving on, but I don't know how dirty his hands got.
4. Edgar P. Jacobs- "Belgian comic book creator". Let's stop here before you embarass yourself.
I'll wait to see which of either Finger or Hoffman needs help. What, I can't choose between the creator of Batman and the creator of the Nutcracker! Well, maybe I can.

1. Bobby Kennedy (Probably would have become one of the greatest presidents ever if he hadn't been assassinated. A truly great man)
2. Roy E. Disney (Walt couldn't have done all he did without him. It's hard to put him second but I want to make sure that both he and Bobby move on)
3. Edgar Jacobs (Less of a threat)
4. Herodotus (More of a threat)
EDIT: Almost forgot the second match.
1. Bill Finger
2. Hoffmann
3. Akira Ifukbe
4. Kamehameha
-
1. Herodotus: yeah, the guy is the father of history, and i'm a history ed minor.
2. Kennedy: i'm no fan of his at all, but his assassination and the mystery surrounding it places him here
3. Edgar Jacobs: dunno
4. Roy Disney: He's no Walt
1. Ifukube: because his score really caused the original Gojira to have so much emotional impact.
2. Kamehameha: he's very important to Hawain history
3. Finger: because he's important to the Batman mythos
4. Hoffman: eh

Akira Ifukube: Godzilla simply would not be the legend he is without Ifukube's masterpiece scores. He came up with the roar, too.
Kamehameha
Finger
Hoffman
"Of course, all this magic business is just so much bull dust. Isn't it? We civilized people know that such goings on are ridiculous gibber, don't we? Sure we do: we don't trust anything but our good, reliable horoscope."

Sorry I didn't vote, but I doubt that I will vote every single round. I don't think I'm going to vote this round, either.
-
1. Herodotus (Without him, would this thread even exist?)
2. Disney (.... Why not?)
3. Bobby (.... Why not?)
4. Jacobs (.... Sharing a last name with me doesn't constitute a vote. Well, actually, I DID base my vote for my high school drama program's secretary off the bribe of him naming his children after me....)
1. Finger (Apparently created Batman. That's good enough for me.)
2. Hoffman (Nutcracker.... Sure, whatever.)
3. Kamehameha (Important to Hawaii.... because.... of something....)
4. Ifukube (So let me get this straight. Crade won't vote for any filmmakers because he doesn't think they're important enough, but the guy who wrote the score for one classic film that most people have never even seen gets first place?)
-
Match 7!
- Robert Kennedy ~ One of his brother's main advisors, and a rather great man on his own. Man, if he could have become President... that certainly would have been something.
- Herodotus ~ The first guy who thought to put down events as they actually occured. What a concept!
- Roy E. Disney ~ Well, he saved Disney, and without him, we may not have gotten the Disney Renaissance, and thus, may have missed out on among the greatest artistic periods of the 20th Century.
- Edgar Jacobs ~ Well... he's not that bad...
Match 8!
- Kamehameha I ~ The George Washington of the Hawaiian Islands. A very important figure from a very interesting island.
- Bill Finger ~ Helped make Batman. And Batman is major among the superhero genre. And I'd call superheroes the Epic Heroes of the modern world.
- E.T.A. Hoffman ~ Well, The Nutcracker is a rather seminal work...
- Akira Ikufube ~ I don't think "the guy who did the music for Godzilla" really counts as a historical figure.

Just clarifying, this is Roy E. Disney, Walt's nephew, not his father and cofounder of the Disney company, Roy O. Disney. He's not going to be in this competion for another 160 contestants.
Thanks for the info.
1. E. T. A. Hoffmann-He's losing, but I will get him as high as I can. (I feel that came out wrong.) Nussknacker und Mausekönig was tied and in many ways surpassed The Night Before Christmas as my favorite Christmas story when I was a wee lad and it still is. It has frightening rats led by a seven headed king, huge violent battles, a super-powered mysterious uncle with an eyepatch and a princess named Pirlipat! It's influence can be seen in stories like Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, and The Chronicles of Narnia.
2. Bill Finger- He's surprisingly winning this match. Good, he deserves some recognition.
3. Akira Ifukube- I don't want this guy to move on, but he's in third place. For Hoffmann!
4. Kamehameha I- AAAH! He's historically significant! He's beating Hoffmann by a larger margin! I must cut off his supply of points.

Hm, can't believe I missed that one letter. I'm even honoring Roy E. Disney in my signature right now. Still, I keep him second because as Johnny said, he saved Disney.

A. I'm a godzilla nut. you should know that by now.
B. I didn't say ANY filmmakers, i said most filmmakers.
C. I'm doing it part by historical significance, part by how much i personally like them.
I will have no issue if both Kamehameha and Bill Finger advance. I just prefer Ifukube.

Hmmm...
Me thinks I updated too early. Everyone's voted! I'll wait a bit because I really should be studying and in the hope that an army of new posters will sweep down and save Hoffmann and Disney.
-
Oh well...
Robert Kennedy-10
Herodotus-10
Roy E. Disney-8
Edgar Jacobs-2
Robert and Herodotus move on. ROY!!! Also, I'm sure Mr. Jacobs is very talented and was a nice man and meant no offense by my comment.
Bill Finger- 10
Akira Ifukube-8
Kamehameha I-8
E.T.A. Hoffman-5
Hoffmann!!! Finger and Ifukube move on. If JAG or cradleman could provide a picture that is size-appropriate and goes on the forum, that would be much obliged.
In the new match,
...the famous prophet of the future...

Michel de Nostredame (Nostradamus)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nostradamus
... A French writer...

Paul Féval
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Feval
...a man who loves his peanut butter and banana sandwiches....

Elvis Presley
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvis_Presley
...and a sherpa guide.

Tenzing Norgay
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenzing_Norgay
In a second match, there competes...
...an witty playwright...

Noel Coward
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No%C3%ABl_Coward
...the makers of Yabba-Yabbas and Scooby-Scoobys and related Doos...

William Hanna/Joseph Barbera
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanna-Barbera
... the guy who peed on Pharaoh...

Pierre Tredeau
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Trudeau
...and the writer of war.

Sun Tzu
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suntzu
Michel de Nostredame (Nostradamus)
Paul Feval
Elvis Presley
Tenzing Norgay
Noel Coward
Hanna Barbera
Pierre Elliot Trudeau
Sun Tzu
1. Elvis Presley- Quite possibly, the most iconic singer/music man who has ever lived.
2. Nostradamus- Interesting guy, despite the fact his prophecies are so vague they could be about anything.
3. Tenzing Norgay- For some reason, less loved than Hillary.
4. Paul Feval- I've heard of him and vaguely of his books, but I'm not really familiar with him.
1. Pierre Truedeau- I did not even know of this guy until RTW, but he does seem to be all kinds of awesome.
2. Sun Tzu- He wrote the book on war.
3. Hanna-Barbera- With all due respect, their work is vastly, vastly overrated.
4. Noel Coward- I have to get around to seeing or reading some of this guy's work. He did play John Darling though and that makes him cool in my book, though I can't honestly place him above Hanna-Barbera.

Match 9!
- Elvis Presley ~ Well, he's certainly among the biggest names in American history, for better or for worse.
- Tenzing Norgay ~ Man guided the group up Everest. That gets points from me.
- Paul Feval ~ Not too familiar with him, but...
- Nostradamus ~ ...at least he isn't famous for vague nonsense.
Match 10!
- Pierre Trudeau ~ SUCH a cool guy. Everything he did was nonsense, but it was always just... man, so cool. When told Nixon made a comment comparing him to a certain hole on the human body - "I have been called worse things by better people." He's the man.
- Sun-Tzu ~ A lot of the Art of War seems rather obvious by now, but, well, it all started somewhere. Certainly an influence.
- Hanna/Barbera ~ They contributed a lot to animation... for better or for worse.
- Noel Coward ~ Don't know the first thing about him, but in a match like this, that ain't a good sign.

-
1. Elvis
2. Nostradamus
3. Paul Feval
4. Tenzing Norgay
1. Hanna Barbera (They did a lot for cartoons and in my opinion, for the better. People complain because they re-used animation but great writing and imagination made up for that)
2. Pierre Trudeau
3. Noel Coward
4. Sun-Tzu
-
1. Nostradamus (Interesting.)
2. Elvis Presley (Of course.)
3. Paul Feval (Don't know him.)
4. Tenzing Norgay (Or him.)
1. Noel Coward (I'm Assistant Directing one of his shows right now! He's really a great guy - lots of witty, sophisticated humor. Good musician too.)
2. Hanna-Barbara (They created Scooby Doo!)
3. Pierre Trudeau (I have to admit.... That's funny....)
4. Sun-Tzu (Wait, what did he do again?)

I can’t believe Sun Tzu is faring so poorly. If you’re talking influential, the guy influenced warfare for millennia and even a lot of business are influenced by "The Art Of War". If he doesn’t make it to the next round, I’m going to lose faith in this thread and abstain from all votes in the future.
1 Sun Tzu
2 Pierre Trudeau
3 Noel Coward
4 Hanna-Barbera
-
Elvis Presley- 13
Nostradamus- 10
Paul Feval- 4
Tenzing Norgay-3
Elvis and Nostradamus move on. No surprise there.
Pierre Truedeau- 11
Hanna-Barbera- 10
Sun Tzu- 8
Noel Coward-7
Sorry, Huntsman, but Truedeau and the animators move on. It was pretty close, though I'm surprised how popular Truedeau has become, considering when I found out about him, it was three months ago and I just needed a Canadian president for the late 70's in RTW.
In yet another match,...
...possibly the oldest known leader...

Hammurabi
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammurabi
...a guy who might have known Asterix...

Vercingetorix
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vercingetorix
...a man who would like to borrow your ears...

Marc Antony
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Antony
...and the guy who came up with the "god of good, god of evil".

Zoroaster
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoroaster
In another one,...
...the guy that's inside your mind...

Andrew Lloyd Webber
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Lloyd_Webber
...the capital of Ohio...

Christopher Columbus
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Columbus
...this guy had an alligator for a pet. He was all kinds of awesome...

John Quincy Adams
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Quincy_Adams
...and Tenzing Norgay's best friend.

Edmund Hillary
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmund_Hillary
Hammurabi
Vercingetorix
Marc Anthony
Zoroaster
Andrew Lloyd Webber
Christopher Columbus
John Quincy Adams
Edmund Hillary
1. Hammurabi- He did create the first law code, no matter how elitist it was.
2. Zoroaster- He was the inventor of the modern concept of Satan. He is also part "Zoro".
3. Marc Antony- I feel most of his greatness comes from Shakespeare.
4. Vercingetorix- His name is hard to spell and he didn't seem to last long.
1. John Quincy Adams- One of our most interesting Presidents. He fought for what he believed in from the Revolution to right before the Civil War. Click on the link to learn more.
2. Andrew Lloyd Webber- My second favorite music man after Sondheim. Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, Sunset Boulevard...the list goes on and on, EVEN IF HALF OF IT IS UNSINGABLE.
3. Edmund Hillary- He survived Mount Everest. Not that big a deal.
4. Christopher Columbus- He was kind of pathetic. Not Hitler pathetic, but pathetic and a bit of a megalomaniac.
