Okay, then.
I'm updating in 2 hours and a half incidentally.

Go Walt! I've been waiting to avenge his early exit in Greatest Character. He'd better go far this time. Too bad about Paul, but I can't wait for the rest of the Beatles. And I actually like the debate that we had. I think that this greatest thread brings great discussion, more-so than the others. So I'm good with it getting political. I have no problem with anyone else's opinions, even if I don't agree with them. And I'm sure that everyone else here feels the same.

Well, considering the fact that Zane isn't on here....
-
Thanks, Cartoon. That's why I thought this would be a good fit for a thread. Also, was Zane the beatle that Ringo replaced?
Aristotle- 14
Malcolm X- 11
Steve Ditko- 5
Paul McCartney-5
Aristotle and X move on.
Crazy Horse- 17
George Patton-12
Karl Marx- 8
Michael Jordan- 5
Horse and Patton move on.
In match one,
...a guy who was in this contest for five minutes...

Epicurus
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epicurus
...arguably the greatest founding father...

Benjamin Franklin
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Franklin
...the man who defined American culture in the 20th century...

Walt(er) Disney
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney
...and the most famed outlaw of the Wild West.

Jesse James
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesse_james
In the second match,
... possibly the greatest filmmaker of all time...

(George) Orson Welles
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orson_Welles
...the man who unified Germany...

Otto Von Bismarck
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_Von_Bismarck
...a leading protestant...

William Tyndale
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Tyndale
...and the last leader of ancient Eygpt.

Cleopatra the VII
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleopatra
Epicurus
Benjamin Franklin
Walter Elias Disney
Jesse James
George Orson Welles
Otto von Bismarck
William Tyndale
Cleopatra
1. Walt Disney- I had a big speech planned, but I think I just have to say he's one of my idols and if it wasn't for him, then we wouldn't be on this site.
2. Benjamin Franklin- He was one of the wisest founding fathers and extremely intelligent.
3. Jesse James- He was a psychotic murderer and robber.
4. Epicurus- At least Jesse's interesting.
1. Orson Welles- Another one of my idols and in my opinion the greatest filmmaker who ever lived. Behind Walt, but they made completely different movie types.
2. Otto von Bismarck- He's the German George Washington.
3. Cleopatra- She had a love life, but that was about it.
4. William Tyndale- Protestant martyr and translator... Adventure Ho!
-
Match 3!
- Epicurus ~ One of the first philosophers to say - y'know what, screw it, guys. Just relax, do what you want, don't bother with any of this hard work and worship and loyalty stuff. Without him, some of our greatest poetry and ideas wouldn't exist.
- Walt Disney ~ Perhaps I'm a tad biased, having just read his biography, but he really is an amazing fellow. If only he was able to build EPCOT - even if it failed, it would have been an amazing step forward. His entire life building toward the future...
- Benjamin Franklin ~ Also a pretty big name, and one of the better Founding Fathers. A real jack-of-all-trades, and quite a charmer, as well. A fat old man goes off to France and has hot socialites hanging off him, literally and figuratively. Now that's Benny Frank, kids.
- Jesse James ~ I love the Old West as much as the next guy, but Jesse James has never been one of my favorite outlaws.
Match 4!
- Otto von Bismarck ~ He came to a loose confederation of bickering city-states and made them into among the greatest empires of the 19th and 20th Centuries. A master politician and an overall fantastic leader for the German people... unlike another charismatic politician with a meteoric rise I'll neglect to mention.
- Orson Welles ~ Well, he DID pioneer a lot of film techniques. He's no Fritz Lang, but Hollywood would certainly be a lot worse off without him.
- Cleopatra ~ Well, she ended up completely destroying one of the longest-running empires in history (though really it was destroyed by her forefathers under Alexander the Great but let's not split hairs) in a vain power coup, but for the time, she was quite the political head and a rather romantic figure to boot.
- William Tyndale ~ Protestantism and the Age of Reformation has never really been my bag, so to speak...

You're not biased. He was that amazing. If I'm able to accomplish just a fifth of what he did, I would die happy.

1 Benjamin Franklin My favorite founding father.
2 Walt Disney
3 Epicurus
4 Jesse James
-
1. Jesse James: one of the most notorious outlaws of all time
2. Ben Franklin: the 2nd greatest founding father
3. Walt Disney: a truly amazing man. in many matches i would have him higher
4. Epicurus: he's kinda weird. just basically a live life to the fullest and damn the consequences.
1. Tyndale: as a Baptist, i really appreciate him for his work translating the Bible into English, and the stand he took that caused him to be martyred.
2. Otto Von Bismarck: this guy is really cool, i really like him.
3. Cleopatra: she's very historic, but i prefer the two above
4. Orson: martyr > german ruler > Egyptian ruler > filmmaker

... the greatest playwright, except for a guy coming up in my opinion...

William Shakespeare
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shakespeare
...a controversial and influential mind...

Charles Darwin (I didn't see a big picture of him with his beard.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Darwin
...a man who vowed to return...

Douglas MacArthur
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_MacArthur
...and the great German Expressionist filmmaker.

Fredrich (Fritz) Lang
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_Lang

William Shakespeare
Charles Darwin
Douglas MacArthur
Fritz Lang
Arthur Wellesley
Edgar Allan Poe
Muhammad Ali
Barnum Brown
1. William Shakespeare- Why not?
2. Fritz Lang- Cool picture, cool life, and I need to see his cool movies. Just read the cool Wikipedia article. This guy stuck up to Hitler and influenced Superman!
3. Charles Darwin- Its not like he created evolution or the theory.
4. Douglas MacArthur- The guy who thought we needed to invade China. China. The largest country on earth. He was such a pain to Harry Truman.
1. Edgar Allan Poe- Again, why not?
2. Muhammad Ali- He's a pretty famous boxer and a peaceful guy to boot.
3. Arthur Wellesley- He beat Napoleon for the continuation of European monarchy and suppression of the masses. Who was the bad guy and good guy in all this?
4. Barnum Brown- He found some bones. The End.

Match 5!
- Charles Darwin ~ Though it's arguable if he really came up with it first, The Origin of Species is definitely among the most important scientific works since the heliocentric theory.
- Fritz Lang ~ PROBABLY the most important filmmaker of all time. Pioneer in style, in plotting, in everything. AND he was a complete badass, to top things off. So, yeah.
- William Shakespeare ~ A fantastic poet, no doubt, and a great playwright, too. But considering all he really did was steal other people's plots and slap some dirty humor onto them... I dunno, he's not that impressive.
- Douglas MacArthur ~ Pretty badass, yeah, but he ain't no Ike and he ain't no Patton.
Match 6!
- Edgar Allan Poe ~ Because, well, he is the father of horror. And mystery novels, too. Not to mention he's just a really interesting figure.
- Duke of Wellington ~ Interesting character. I am a fan of the Napoleonic Wars and such.
- Muhammad Ali ~ I adore boxing, and he is rather interesting, but not quite as influential, y'know?
- Barnum Brown ~ Eh. Not my bag.

1. Douglas MacArthur: THE greatest general of WWII. The reason Japan is as successful a country as it is today, due to his leadership in rebuilding it after the war. And the man who was absolutely correct about wiping out communism once and for all. Truman was a wimp. Because he was too scared to defeat communism before they had any nuclear weapons, he actually created the Cold War. yes, i really like MacArthur, and i totally agree that "There is no substitute for victory."
2. William Shakespeare: the greatest writer of all time
3. Lang: eh
4. Darwin: i have no comment
1. Edgar Allen Poe: my favorite writer of all time. simply amazing. he also invented the rules for the short story, and invented the modern mystery story.
2. Duke of Wellington: for defeating a pretty cruel man with dreams and aspirations of conquering the world.
3. Barnum: whatever
4. Ali: i will vote very few sports figures and filmmakers/actors above fourth.

Wait, wouldn't a war against China and Russia have destroyed the United States military and economy? No one has beaten those countries since the Mongols.
-
1. William Shakespeare (Easily the most influential writer of all time, and certainly amongst the greatest.)
2. Fritz Lang (I actually don't think I've seen any of his movies, but if he's as great as they say he is, sure thing, why not?)
3. Charles Darwin (Art > Science; Now sci-fi, or scientific art - that's a whole other story!)
4. MacArthur (Do us all a favor, and don't come back.)
1. Edgar Allen Poe (No, DUH!)
2. Barnum (Found bones....? .... Okay....)
3. Ali (A boxer, apparently....)
4. Duke (I will vote very few war figures above 4th. Unless they're competing against other war figures....)
-
I'm not trying to influence your vote SpideyFan, but surely you don't plan to put George Washington in fourth?

Well, you forget Washington's marvellous skill at interior design and elegant self-made fashions.

1. William Shakespeare (William Shakespeare)
2. Charles Darwin (I don't agree or disagree with the theory of evolution to tell you the truth. I'm not really one specific religion. I like to take different parts of each if you will to unite religion rather than divide it. And to take something from Buddism, creation isn't really a concern for me. For Darwin himself, while I don't form an opinion, I still respect the theory that he gave out and the courage that it took to give such a publicly unpopular belief)
3. Douglas MacArthur
4. Fritz Lang
1. Muhammad Ali (One of the most important sports figures of all time. Possibly THE most important)
2. Edgar Allan Poe (Also needs to move on. One of the best writers ever. Probably the best poet ever)
3. Duke of Wellington (I know him)
4. Barnum Brown (I don't know him)
