Help! I need an avatar

Oh goodness,

I've been on the internet for what seems like ages trying to get this avatar thing together. You see, I've just managed to get that newbie thing from under my name and am now a full fledged member . But whenever I try to download (or upload...or whatever) some possible pics from cliparts, that as far as my computer tells me are gif images, and I try to get it as my avatar, I get this message that the image I'm trying to download isn't a real GIF or JPEG image. I don't know what to do (I don't even know what all that stuff means . ). Could someone please help; it would be greatly appreciated.

Also in the Change Avatar section, it tells me that I can choose an avatar from possible pictures that Toonzone already has, but it also shows me that there are 0 items there. I'm really confused . Again your help would be greatly appreciated.

As a matter of fact, I might as well ask this one anyway: When quoting one of my fellow forum members in a post, how do I apply that Originally posted by line directly in the quote brackets like I see in everyone else's posts? Thanks!

According to the Toon Zone FAQ:

These small images are called Avatars. They are displayed below your username on all posts that you make. In order to have an avatar, you need to have made at least 10 posts. If you meet that requirement, go to the change avatar section of the edit options page. Select "yes" next to "custom avatar", then enter the url of the file you wish to use, or browse your hard drive for one. An avatar must be a valid .gif or .jpg image, and may not exceed 75 by 75 pixels or 10240 bytes.

You can do a search online for websites with avatars. I can do some basic ones - is there any paricular image that you wanted to use?

I run across this before, myself. Make sure that ".gif" or ".jpg" (depending on which file type it is) appears at the end of the file name. That might solve your problem.

Ah, I remember asking the same question. Instead of clicking the "Post Reply" button at the top/bottom of the page, click the "Reply" button to the right of the poster's name.

Cere, I tried this and what do you know it works. More importantly, I've acctually figured out that I can use Paint to customize my downloaded pictures, save them as gif of jpg files and upload them as my avatar.

Wow, you'ld actually do that. Thanks, but I'm glad to say that that's not neccesary. You don't have to go out of your way like that. Like I've said before I finally figured out how to customize my own pictures (and let me just say that I am definitely proud of myself. ). As for the internet search for avatars, I tried that but that just took me in circles-- the pictures weren't the right size(of course this was before I figured out how to use paint.) and most of them were abit pointless. There was even a link that carried me to some religion or something called, The Avatar But hey, thanks.

Note : I've noticed that I should not have started this thread at all, but should have simply asked this in The Offical Avatar Thread . But I must say that when I started this thread, the O.A. thread was not on the first page of Cafe Toon Zone and that I, at the time, did not even know that it existed. I would suggest to the mods you make that one just like those other threads, with the warning signs next to them that stay at the top of the first page, just so its visable to everyone and always on hand. If you will, I ask that you please merge this thread into that one. Thanks alot.
