    Javascript errors on main page?

    Like This Thread!
I've noticed IE keeps saying that the main tz.net page has a javascript error along with any news links I click on. The error is shows is this:

Any hopes of fixing it? It doesn't seem to cause problems in XP or Win2k, but when I try it on my old Windows ME laptop, it seems to have issues with the drop down menus not fully displaying or something.

During the horrible time when I had WinME, that sort of thing happened all the time. For some reason IE on WinME feels the need to point out what it considers to be errors on perfectly functional web pages. I believe there's an option to turn off this "feature" (of course, downloading Firefox would probably be a better idea....)

I think ME is the only OS I had installed for exactly one day before giving up entirely on it.

I'm not at home today, but I'll look at the code tomorrow. I'll letcha know when I've done something to it. Thx for posting the error, that'll helps lots.

Just was wondering how things are going on this. It's been almost a month and it still happens on the Win 2k PCs I use (no idea about XP, since I only use Firefox when I'm on XP).

    There's your problem

(actually I mentioned a few days ago the Javascript menu doesn't work on my PDA either, and suggested an alternative)

Finally got around to check it on an XP machine, and the problem exists there as well.

It's rather odd. I can't get this error to appear on my system at home. I can at work. Obviously, work is not the place to be debugging the site. I'll try checking it from Brian's system once we're both home.

Sorry this is taking so long. I genuinely forgot about it after not getting the error myself when you originally brought it up.

Hmmm, that's strange. I have IE on Windows ME and I've never had this problem. I use AOL's version of IE, but I wouldn't think that would make much difference.

That's what's weird. It's not exclusive to one browser or OS, and it doesn't happen on every computer. I still haven't made it to Brian's computer to check and we're going out for lunch and looking for trouble we can get into in a couple of hours, so I don't have an ETA on this yet. But I wil get it done as soon as I can give this some attention again.

Thanks for taking the time to look at it. I know it doesn't seem to cause any fatal damage when surfing (for me at least), but javascript errors are annoying because you don't know what they could do on another person's machine. when I had Windows Me on my laptop stil, it'd freak and not display the drop-down menus properly when clicked but on my Win2k and XP systems, no such problem exists. I guess that's what happens when you're programming a page that'll be viewed on so many different browser/OS combinations. Something has gotta go foul eventually.

I don't have it set to pop up, but I AM replicating this error in IE. In Firefox, it's fine.

Same exact line of code, or a different one now? I did some shifting of code last night, and if it's still coming up it should show the same error, different line. If so, what line?

IE is now reporting something on line 128 instead of 56.

I went into Firefox's Javascript console since it explains these better:

    Error: missing ; before statement
    Source Code:
    z5/news/menu_05-mo.gif','http://www.toonzone.net/images/tz5/news/menu_06-mo.gif','http://www.toonzone.net/images/tz5/news/menu_07-mo.gif,'http://www.toonzone.net/images/tz5/news/menu_08-mo.gif','http://www.toonzone.net/images/tz5/news/menu-fp.gif')

    That help?

I also missed an extraneous ")" that I left there for no discernable reason.

It should be fixed. Lemme know if it's not.

Thx for pointing that out (MDawg) and thanks the assist (Williams). I go sleepy.

Can assuredly say that there is no more error on my Win2k PC

Sorry for all the heck, but no more warning icon in IE every time I visit TZ makes me feel better. Thanks ToonZone Javascript Error Destruction Team (or TZJEDT for short)
