Worst movie of 2003: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
OK, we learned the best movies of 2003 from everyone. How about the worst movies?
The worst- The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
I saw it with a group of six people, and all of us left the theater and rattled on about what was bad about the movie for a half hour. From plot points that didn't make sense (Destroying a building stops the rest of the buildings from toppling? Huh?) to moments that defy the laws of physics (Nemo's giant ship can apparently traverse through the rivers of Venice), it was just flat out bad. It's a shame, because the source material was actually pretty good.

One word:
Gigli.

I'd have to say Gigli.

I can't help but think of a post at "Ain't It Cool News" that, in time, will be a perfect description of this thread: "I think that people are picking on Gigli because it's the 'in' thing to do." When it hits cable, I'll judge for myself, but for the moment, I don't care.
Worst film of the year: Darkness Falls. I saw this excuse for a horror movie on cable a few weeks ago. Very blah. Most people forgot that this was released in January.
(Before I name the worst film I saw in a theater, I want to note something: I don't go to see everything that comes out. I only go to see movies I expect to enjoy. That said...)
Worst film that I paid to see: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - the Cradle of Life. If I had to pick the worst film I went to a theater to see last year, this would be it. Better than the first, but still kind of dull.
I feel that a big problem with today's society is that we don't listen to our fellow man -- especially when I'm talking.

Didn't see Underworld. Absolutely loved The Hulk, and thought it was one of the better flicks I saw this year. LoEG wasn't great, but certainly not what I'd consider one of the worst either.Originally Posted by KTF

Umm, actually, that makes plenty of sense. Its like when they set brush fires to prevent forest fires. You burn the brush and dead wood in a controlled way so that a forest fire can't start or spread into the area - the lack of flammable material presents a barrier of sorts. Its the same with the building. The reason the buildings kept falling was because of a domino effect. You remove some building(s) so that the domino effect is stopped - you've created an empty space for the other building to fall into. While there are plenty of plot holes in the film, that's not one of them.I saw it with a group of six people, and all of us left the theater and rattled on about what was bad about the movie for a half hour. While I agree that the idea of the Naulitis traversing into the canals of Venice was stretching it a bit thin, I didn't even think of that during the movie because I was too drawn into what I was watching. Besides, they at least made some effort to address this during the movie by saying that they could only go so far into the canal before the water became too shallow.to moments that defy the laws of physics (Nemo's giant ship can apparently traverse through the rivers of Venice), it was just flat out bad. You know what, you're right. That does make sense. They just didn't do a very good job explaining it in the film.Originally Posted by Clayface
As for the Gigli bashing, I too did not see it, so I can't say if it was better or worse than The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I can only go by what I've seen.

I really think I'm going to have to go with House of the Dead.
Gotta love dialogue like:
CheesyCharacter: Why do you want to be immortal?
ClicheZombieBadGuy: To live forever!
That's got my vote for worst movie ever.

Worst film? Ooooo, difficult.. hehe, techincally Star Trek Nemesis was released over in the UK on the 3rd of January, so for me that was a 2003 film. Yep, the worst. Simply, the pacing, story and poor editing on the part of the Director made the STTNG swansong a very very poor affair indeed.
Yes I too liked the Hulk. Granted again, there was some sloppy editing and over compacted storylines, but nevertheless it was an enjoyable movie.

I... am going to say HULK. Thank God most of the movies I saw were good this year.
I just thought of one movie I saw this year that I thought was pretty terrible: House of 1000 Corpses. Yep, definitely could have gone without renting that one.

hmm that's a taugh one... I don't think I saw any really bad movie in theaters this year, thank god I made some good choices. Probably the least entertaining movies I saw were "Pirates..." and RotK, mainly because
1) despite Depp's great performance, the story in Pirates seemed very kiddie and just didn't do it for me.
2) RotK felt like a 10 hour long movie... soooooo long, not that exciting... I missed the thrilling creshendo I felt in the Two Towers.
Yeah those two were rather painful theater experiences... I'm not saying they were bad, I might actually enjoy them more on DVD though.
I haven't seen League, Hulk, Underworld or Gibli...
Edit: my mistake!! Just remembered the worst film I saw this year... Matrix Reloaded. Can't believe I forgot that one. Such a mediocre and ridiculously intricate story, with terrible actors and terrible filmmakers... of course Matrix Revolutions was pretty bad too, but it had its moments.
The Hulk. It just sucked. Also, nothing was realistic.

From the ones that I saw in the theatres, definetly has to be,
SWAT
You're right about Reloaded. Even though I did not see Gigili, the second Matrix film was so bad that I still have not yet seen Revolutions. Must be that rave scene.Originally Posted by Salvor

I can't believe no one mentioned Dreamcatcher yet. That was just awful. Any horror movie that has crap monsters, a retarded alien, and a scene where a guy talks into a gun has got to suck. I heard the book was good though.
By the way, I think the reason Gigli was such a big bomb was because it was advertised as a romantic comedy even though Jay Lo played a lesbian in the film. Actually, I just saw a newspaper describing the DVD as a romantic comedy last week. I wish people would learn to not falsely advertise movies. It only hurts the movie more.
I would have to say Just Married. Unfornately I had to sit throught this disaster. I don't know what people see in Ashton Kutcher.![]()
Worst: Cat in the Hat.
I've heard of unnecessary subplots, but this JUST TAKES THE CAKE! I mean, come on! The Cat in the Hat wasn't about learning to not be a control freak or rule breaker. It was about having fun even in dire times. What's this thing about an alternate dimension made from 2 worlds ? This isn't Ray Bradbury, people!![]()
