    Paulie: A Parrot's Tale - Talkback (Spoilers?)

    Like This Thread!

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single parrot.

"I say taco, they say taco!" "Taco! Taco!"

    Release Date: April 17, 1998
    Studio: DreamWorks
    Director: John Roberts
Starring: Gena Rowlands, Tony Shalhoub, Cheech Marin, Bruce Davison, Trini Alvarado, Jay Mohr, Buddy Hackett, Hallie Kate Eisenberg, Matt Craven, Bill Cobbs, Tia Texada, Laura Harrington, Peter Basch, Emily Mura-Smith, Hal Robinson

    Plot Summary:
Paulie, an intelligent parrot who actually talks, relates the story of his struggle to a Russian immigrant who works as a janitor at the research institute where he is housed and neglected. Paulies story begins many years earlier when he is given as a gift to a little girl who stutters. Eventually, he teaches the girl to speak correctly but is taken away by her father because he believes the girl cannot distinguish fantasy from reality because she believes the bird can talk. Paulie goes through a series of adventures with a pawn shop owner, an ageing widow, a Mexican-American troubadour and a would be thief before being taken to the institute where he now lives.

    Heheh, "Taco! Taco! Taco!"

I really liked this movie back in "the day", though I haven't seen it in a long time so I can't be sure whether I'd still like it. Nothing really terrible about it, though, as far as I remember.

I remember seeing this movie a few years back.

This is a wonderful family movie that is touching and occasionally funny. As mentioned in the first post, the film features a talented cast. Mohr is terrific as the voice of Paulie, and Shalhoub is great, as always, as Mischa the janitor.

It's a shame that more people haven't seen it.
I feel that a big problem with today's society is that we don't listen to our fellow man -- especially when I'm talking.

I actually enjoyed this film when I saw it. I figured it would just be some cutesy animal flick, but it actually being a serious drama that was actually sad, well, that was a cool surprise.

Plus, I like parrots. They're cute.
