The WWE Big Question #35 - Come again?

    Like This Thread!
Tuesday, the Big Question brought you the WWE debut of Goldberg and now the Unofficial WWE Moderator brings to you the return of the original WWF Diva, Sable.

Rena "Sable" Mero made her debut at WrestleMania XII on the arm of Hunter Hearst Helmsley. After HHH's loss to the Ultimate Warrior—the American Blueblood blamed his valet and she joined then Federation newcomer "Wildman" Marc Mero. She would later leave Mero and defeat Jacqueline for the Women's Title at the 1998 Survivor Series "Deadly Game." She would eventually split with Mero and appear on the cover of Playboy magazine in April of 1999.

After her appearance on the best-selling magazine, Sable began to adopt a more arrogant persona and dedicated her matches and "the grind" to "All the women who want to be me and the men who come to see me."

Backstage, Rena Mero would change as well, and eventually demanded more money and filed a $130 million lawsuit against the World Wrestling Federation, included in her side was the use of the name "Sable." This of course resulted in Sable disappearing from the WWF in 1999 and attempting to "go Hollywood." Rena appeared in Chris Kattan's "Corky Romano" and a few direct to video titles.

Fans were shocked when Sable interrupted Torrie Wilson's Playboy party on the April 3 edition of SmackDown! Torrie didn't know what to make of Sable either, especially after the first Playboy Diva gave her a light kiss before leaving the ring.

What the future holds for these two is anyone's guess, you can check out an interview Sable gave WWE.com here, but that bring us to the Big Question...

How do you feel the return of Sable?

This is very different from last week, because unlike Goldberg, I really have no feelings for or against Sable. It doesn't really matter to me whether she stay or she goes and I don't see her making any kind of impact whether good or bad to affect WWE in this run at all.

Truth be told, Sable did make the 2nd generation of the Women's division during the 'Attitude' era when the Women's title came back in '98, but other than that, she held it for practically a year I believe before dropping it to Debra, and then just kinda faded away. To me, she wasn't much more than a weaker Trish Stratus, but maybe that's going overboard.

Oh, and another thing she did was propell Marc Mero's career into Intercontinental Championship status, at one point, and "Wildman" Marc Mero was probably his best gimmick, with Sable at the helm.

All in all, I really don't see Sable having that much of an affect this time around. The only thing I hope for is GAH, I hope this isn't Torrie/Dawn all over again, or perhaps a female version of DDP/Sara. I hope not.
"Leaping Lanny and Randy Savage are brothers, and Randy Savage, your name is Randy Poffo. THAT'S RIGHT, RANDY POFFO. You're ashamed of going around calling yourself Poffo so you probably got the name Savage because you're ashamed of putting yourself on the same level as your brother because he is much better than you are. YOUR BROTHER IS A HUMAN BEING. YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A SCUMBAG. THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE; YOU'RE A DOG. YOUR NAME IS POFFO." - Ronnie Garvin to Randy Savage, ICW Wrestling, 1980.

I was disappointed in Sable more than mad, especially when I saw her in the audience on an episode of Monday Nitro. After what Alundra Blaze/Madusa did to the WWF (you know what I mean) Women's Title, it made me sad to see another blow to the company since it was resurrecting a title and trying to add a T and A style to it. Yes Sable isn't a great wrestler, but it did look like she was trying. If she didn't return, I would of been fine. If her appearance helps WWE, I'm all for it.

As for the storyline,I like it. It was completely unexpected, a great motive to bringing back Sable, and at the same time an interest to Playboy magazine (Two for the price of one is NEVER bad).

The whole kissing moment was great just because it wasn't like a porno where it looks like it's heavy tongue kissing or like they're being forced to do something. It looked light and innocent here, and it was a lot better than the HLA.

forgive me for saying this, but i think that sable looks older than she did when she left. (duh!) i like where this angle is going with her and tori though. i'm still not sure if they're going to be enemies or friends...hmm...maybe both? anyway, my thought about bringing back sable is that better her than sunny

    Sable

Sable is more eye candy for SmackDown! I see Sable winning the Women's title sometime in the future. I have no problem with Sable and Torrie feuding as long as they don't get a match on a PPV. Sable's return can't hurt.

It can't hurt to have her back, though I hope she does more than just become eye candy. I'm not sure what to think about the current angle with Torrie, but if it eventually leads to the in-ring return, then I'm for it. Hopefully, she can add something to the women's division on Smackdown.

I actually can't understand the logic in bringing her back, nor will I ever. In Rena you have an ego manaic who had heat with 90% of the locker room while she was there the first time. While I could understand bringing in Goldberg, and maybe even Piper, Rena makes no sense. It seems even more stupid when you thunk of all the promising talent which was cut due to financial straits even though they sign her.

You know the rules, you don’t get a new Big Question until the guy who started the thread answers the old one (look for a Roddy Piper one later this week).

Sable is one person I never thought I would see in WWE after the way she left. Anyone who has the audacity to sue for the rights to a name created by Vince McMahon does not impress me. Rena Mero found out the hard way that we the fans weren’t going to follow her to the ends of the earth and some made for TV movies, we liked Sable and “Rena Mero the actress” is not who the fans wanted.

I honestly believe she has learned her lesson the hard way and wants to contribute to World Wrestling Entertainment once again. When you really think about it most of the people she managed to off are not even on the roster anymore—especially the SmackDown! roster which is made up almost entirely of younger stars who were not even around when Sable was (the notable exception being The Undertaker).

I still question whether she is really what the WWE needs to bring the ratings up, but I can’t say I mind having her around.

Hey... this one slipped off the radar before I saw it. I thought the WWEBQ just took a week off...

Looking at it objectively... they just got Torrie in Playboy. They've squeezed blood out of the stones that were the Torrie/Nidia and Torrie/Dawn Marie fueds, and they needed a good reason to keep her in the spotlight during the Playboy centerfold.

And so I don't think Sable was brought back for the sake of bringing back Sable. It was just a potential storyline, and not a bad one when you think about it (ignoring the fact that the in-ring pay-off will be painful). I'll be curious to see how they use her when the Torrie fued ends.

Me and Vince know a special club she could join...

I wouldn't mind it so much if I saw a point in it. To me, they just took the old Dawn Marie/Torrie angle, took out Al Wilson (since he's the butt of the jokes, I guess he's viewed as the "defective part") and assumed that because Sable has the name value, it'll somehow work this time.

Personally, I don't really care. I never really watched Torrie's segments on Smackdown anyway (as before she even steps in the ring you know she's going to win), so I just turn a blind eye and sigh like I always do.

From what I've heard, the WWE signed her so she wouldn't go to the NWA. I don't know how true this is, but it sure explains a lot.
