Weekend Box Office: Just Married is new champ!

    Like This Thread!
Well, we all knew it had to happen sometime, but did it have to be with this movie? Lord of the Rings, has been booted out of the top spot after 3 weeks by Just Married. The comedy that is this movie with Ashton Kutcher and Britney Murphy brought in $18 million over the weekend to mixed to bad reviews, but by the end of it's run, this will have made it's money back as these types of movies don't cost much to make.

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers falls to second place taking in $14.9 million and bringing it's total to $283.6 million. Getting ever so closer to matching Fellowship of the Rings $313 million.

The very good Catch Me If You Can fell to third with $14.8 million and a $119.5 million total. Every penny is well earned on this movie!

Two Weeks Notice dropped to fourth with $6.7 million and has a comfortable $78.8 million total.

About Schmidt rounds out the top 5 and continues to do well for the amount of theaters it has been released in. In it's second week of wide release Jack Nicholson's latest brought in $6.2 million and has a $21.4 million total. If nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor and/or Picture, the total very well could climb.

Chicago also continues to do well after going wider in release last weekend. This weekend it came in sixth and brought in $5.6 million and has a $17 million total.

3 other movies after being in limited release have now gone wider this weekend. All three had limited releases so they could be considered for Oscar nominations.

Antwone Fisher with Denzel Washington came in ninth with $3.8 million and a $10.4 million total. Reviews have been great.

Adaptation with Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep, and Chris Cooper came in tenth with $2.9 million and will go even wider in the coming weeks.

And the very good looking Narc with Ray Liotta and Jason Patric came in twelfth place with $2.7 million and this one will go wider in the coming weeks. Can't wait to see this one.

Opening next weekend are 3 new movies. National Security with Martin Lawrence and Steve Zahn. A Guy Thing with Jason Lee, Julia Stiles, and Selma Blair. And of course the movie everyone has been waiting for...... Kangaroo Jack with Jerry O'Connell. And that will probably be number one next weekend. God help us all.

    Here are your numbers...

    1) Just Married- $18,000,000 ($18,000,000) NEW!!!
    2) The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers- $14,950,000 ($283,616,000)

Well it's a little surprising with The Two Towers out of number one, but "Just Married" has been promoted very well and at the very least looks decent, so I expected it to do fairly well—pulling in the "That's 70's Show" crowd with Kutcher. I wouldn't be surprised if Ashton and Brittany falling for each other on the set helped out too.

I do agree, it's been promoted well. And That 70's Show is still pretty poplular, so it was a smart move on the studio's part to cast Kutcher. And yes, every show I've seen Murphy and Kutcher on promoting the film, they never leave out the fact that they are an item.

Anyone know what the box office record is for movies that never made it to number one? "Catch" did fairly well, but I'm wondering if it will come anywhere close to "Fat Greek Wedding".

Anything that knocks Maid in Manhattan down the charts is cool with me.

Let's hope that "Maid in Manhattan" gets bumped off the top 12 soon!

Who cares about "Maid in Manhattan" falling down the list?! You guys are ignoring the real problem: "Just Married" opened at the top of the box office. Let us hope that "Kangaroo Jack" doesn't even scratch the top five.
I feel that a big problem with today's society is that we don't listen to our fellow man -- especially when I'm talking.

If anyone has seen it or plans to see it soon, keep in mind that Brittany Murphy does the voice of Luanne on King of the Hill. You might hear a touch of her in the movie.

If Kangaroo Jack does manage to make a dent in the top five, it'll only be for about two weeks, tops. After that, everyone will have seen it, spread the word about how truly awful it was, and it'll drop out and onto video quickly.

It won't be at the top for much longer.

It's another teen flick. You had to expect it would hit #1.
