And these books were written *how* many years ago...?I knew something like this was gonna come up sooner or later, but still....
Honestly, I can understand delaying the Colin Farrell movie over the sniper attacks, taking the plane hijacking out of Lilo and Stitch, and the towers out of Spider-Man, but this is taking it too far.
I applaud Peter Jackson and, especially New Line for having the courage to keep the title faithful to the original books.
Oh man!!!!
They linked to that stupid petition
I'm not that trusting. I kept my finger on the trigger the whole time
I'm actually glad about this, because it gives me one actual real-world example of a time when ignorant foolish hypersensitive PC nuts actually FAILED to ruin a great work of art.
Not that the Two Towers movie wasn't ruined, mind you... but at least it wasn't the ignorant foolish hypersensitive PC nuts that ruined it.
Yes, I derive pleasure from seeing these people fail miserably. I guess that makes me a low and contemptible person. Oh well.

Spider-Man should not have been edited, and I didn't know about the Lilo & Stitch cut but that probably shouldn't have happened either. PC is a dangerous thing.Originally posted by CaptainJustice

Ah yes America land of the free and stupid. We have freedom of speech yet some people aren't even smart enough to use that right.
Let me out.
Well I'll applaud the producers and such but not for having the courage to name the movie after the book its based on. It doesn't take courage but rather common sense.Originally posted by CaptainJustice

i once saw something in a sitcom on tv. the main character was a seriously cynical doctor, who disliked people in general and held a particular loathing of stupid people.
he once said sane people should be allowed to kill six idiots a day, to thin the herd a little.
i think that applies here

Can't say I'm surprised by this, really. When I saw the title of the movie, I figured someone would complain! I mean, people used to half-jokingly ask what we're supposed to call Tim Duncan and David Robinson after the September 11th attack! (they are very big guys nicknamed "The Twin Towers" who play for the San Antonio Spurs) They'll replay the attack over and over on tv and print pictures of it in magazines ad nauseum, but since these two fine citizens have the nickname "The Twin Towers," it's "no, no, no! Can't have that! It reminds us of the attack!" I love the rationale that goes on with that.I think it's a 'cannot confirm/deny' mentality with the nickname now.
I want to say a lot of things, but most of them, although potentially very entertaining to those who agree with me, shouldn't be said.
More than the followers of that site could ever know, I understand the pain and [emphasized] confusion from the 9/11 tragedy, but I don't think this very strange attack at the media is a way to help us cope.
That website says the 9/11 tragedy gave America a chance for greater sensitivity, and that such sensitivity has been missing in America for quite some time. But in a lot of ways concerning this specific subject, I think we're much too sensitive already. To look at the more general problem, it seems like with everything our society does, it does so catering to one of two extremes. The first is that we are so caught up in the rat race routine of our lives that we forget to care about the people around us, and the second is when we worry too much about being offensive so much that we hide and lose who we are. In addition, the types of people who pass their free time by looking for different ways to sue people (fat guy vs. fast food restaurant, to name an example) don't help that second one change it's ways, by the way. But in any case, I think this situation is a good mirror of the second extreme I mentioned. It's way to hard for one to keep from being offensive nowadays, so the most important thing to do when speaking and acting is to do so sincerely and honestly, with as much compassion as possible. That way, you'll be on the ready to talk to, appologize to, and comfort who ever you may indeed have accidentally offended, and understanding will be reached. As a result, the only remaining way to offened someone from acting and speaking this way that I can see is if they want to be offended.
So I don't think this organization is going to do much to help people deal with the pains of the tragedy. If you just step back and look at it, it seems kind of odd and illogical that taking pictures of "two large, vertical towers" out of movies or renaming movies will ease pain and keep people from being offended.
But I can understand how that desire may manifest itself in a person who was physically at the site of the WTC in NYC at the time of the attacks. Psychologically, that would make sense, unfortunate and sad as it sounds that people would have to go through that. So I guess this is the on other remaining way that someone could be offended in the scenario I mentioned above: a psychological one. It's obvious to understand how someone would have some psychological anguish as a result of being on site on 9/11. But psychologically, I won't agree that the treatment to help this person overcome this fear would be to eliminate every likeness of "two large, vertical towers" that one sees in the movies. To me that sounds more like censorship and/or hiding from reality or something. I don't necessarily think this website's organization was developed to try and pin a scapegoat, but maybe, like I mentioned earlier, it just happened as a reaction from confusion. This is the part where I'm refered to as an optomistic fool, but hey, I don't have all the facts so I won't assume nothin'.
A few months ago, I had some personal debate with myself over a related topic to this one here on this message board. Someone posted about the second Lord Of The Rings movie but accidentally wrote "Lord Of The Rings: The Twin Towers." In case you were skimming and didn't catch that right away, the sub-name of the movie is "Two Towers," not "Twin Towers," which was the name of the World Trade Center buildings in NYC. The bottom line was, I was worried about it being offensive. The typo was fixed, partly because so many were worried about it being offensive including myself, and to this day I have no idea why. If it was a simple mind fart type of error which we are all known for when accidentally thinking about two many things at once, then why is that particular typo offensive?
As a result of thinking of that this organization came to be as a result of pain and confusion, it feels like the main thing lacking is communication and reflection, as if we're just acting off of impulse. I think if we care for each other more, and keep our minds open, understanding feelings we have and finding solutions to our society's problems will be a lot easier.
...if you got down this far, thank you SO much for listening. It means a lot to me.

Guess now wouldn't be the appropriate time to tell you the cross over toy idea I have had for a while now? Well, you know how they cross over games with other things, like Star Wars Monopoly, Simpsons Clue, and the sort? Well, I had an idea for WORLD TRADE TOWER JENGA. Wonder how the "Two Tower" protesters would feel about that?
All I can say is I wonder how many of those firemen were Lord of the Rings fans.
ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!...What's this about hispanics and AOTC I wanna hear it! I need another good laugh!![]()
I think the AOTC thing was about Jango Fett and the clone army. I guess they never heard that Mr. Fett was played by a guy from a tribe native to New Zeand.![]()

Notice how little content there is on the site and how it seems to be jumping for funding? I doubt its makers are sincere. They just might be greedy, cruel opportunists, though.
It's intresting to see what an idiot can do with a web page.
Let me out.
From the site's "faq" --
*coughtotalitarianismcough*The creators of the movie have free speech, so what makes you think they should have to change the name of the movie?
We believe that Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema's actions are in fact hate speech. The movie is intentionally being named The Two Towers in order to capitalize on the tragedy of September 11. Clearly, you cannot deny the fact that this falls under hate speech. We believe that if they will not willingly change the name, the government should step in to stop the movie's production or to force a name change.
Do you hear that thumping sound? That would be me, banging my head against my desk.
