WB in panic mode over next Superman movie

    Like This Thread!
WB are absolutely furious at Aint It Cool News' review of the script and is complete panic mode. Heads are rolling and the entire studio is in turmoil. It seems they are scared to death they may have another BATMAN & ROBIN situation on their hands (they do) where negative buzz kills the film before it is even released. This time before it is even shot! The entire project is now in jeopardy and that they may have to throw out the entire script and start over.

Someone who HATED the script and fought against it is the one who leaked it. But basically, there are a few people in the company who understand how bad the script is and that it will be a disaster the likes of which the company has never seen. We're talking a "CUTTHROAT ISLAND" sized bomb.

The Aint It Cool News review is 100% correct.

By the way, the studio heads, many of them have never seen the Donner film and do not know ANYTHING about the origins of SUPERMAN, which explains why they loved the Luthor is an alien concept.

Then why the hell are they working on this project, anyway?! Damn, the WB is full of idiots! Oh well, maybe now they'll get someone to do a respectable script for God's sake.

Hey, I'd rather see the WB in turmoil over a bad script instead of going full-force with a bad script, like they did with B&R. At least they're listening. I havent' read the script, myself - can it be found anywhere on the net?

Having read the focal points of the script I was hoping that it was truly a fake - unfortunately it appears that this was indeed the script.

It's obvious that WB doesn't understand how to treat the Superman properties - from their casting of Nicholas Cage, to the cancellation of STAS at its high point and the approval of such an attrocious script.

Personally I think that the guy who leaked this script needs to get A) a raise and B) a Nobel Peace Prize for preventing what would have surely been a riot in the streets if this movie was ever made.

    Comics2Film also reports the following:

Additionally, the site claims that Brian Robbins and Michael Tollin of Tollin/Robbins, the production company behind Smallville, are upset that Abrams’ script for Superman smashes the continuity set up on the television show. The site also reports that WB is considering ending Smallville soon to allow the Superman film to stand on its own, without having to worry about discrepancies the film and the television series.
Hmmm.....if this is true it looks like Superman fans could be getting an even bigger shaft than even we had previously believed.

End Smallville? One of their highest rated shows? Who's running the show at WB anyway? Possibly someone who was dropped on their head as a child? Numerous times?!

I doubt this is true. I dont think even the wb is stupid enough to cancel their highest rated series.

Where is this report coming from (the one that the topic was started with)? I have doubts regarding its validity...

    THAT SCRIPT SUCKED.

Simple as that. I mean, come on...everything about it was just TOO much. Krypton DOESN'T implode? Jimmy is gay for some reason now? Lex is an alien? Superman dies? Come on...even if all that crap was taken out and the rest remained, it would STILL be a terrible movie, because the scope is TOO BIG.

Changes are good, but all of the changes in this script are totally NEEDLESS. I mean, come on. This is even WORSE than BATMAN & ROBIN. At least THAT movie just suffered from bad dialogue and overcrowding - it didn't TOTALLY throw out comics history (except with Bane and Batgirl...who shouldn't have been there to begin with). EVERYTHING about this script reeks of failure.

Scrap this idea and start over, WB. You're a bunch of idiots if this script truly DOES exist. (Please tell me it's a hoax. Please, please, please.) Get someone from the comics or the animated series or SMALLVILLE or use Kevin Smith's script or something.

Why is it that MARVEL has gotten all of their big-time movies right so far, and WB has messed up over the past decade? The first two SUPERMAN movies were great...so were the first two BATMAN movies. Even BATMAN FOREVER makes the cut in my mind. Changes were made, but they WORKED.

Making Lex Luthor an alien will NOT work.

Keeping Krypton from exploding will NOT work.

Read the comics. Watch the animated series. THOSE worked.

If this movie is made, I swear I'll scream. For the longest time I hoped that WB would learn their lesson after the failure of BATMAN & ROBIN. Maybe...but now they have another superhero franchise at their disposal to screw up.

I will give the script props for being actually pretty awesome for a big budget HUGE film.

If they'd tried their own original driving force and property behind this story then they could've had their very own original hit, but to shove Superman in that piece of garbage was just utter horrid crap that, yeah, would've killed the franchise.... AGAIN!

I'm really glad the internet exists.... otherwise I have no doubt they would've gone ahead with this idea and then wonder why it flopped after it inevitably bombed.

Another stupid thing about that script, Superman saves GOTHAM because it's being attacked? That makes Batman look like some freakin' wuss who can't even defend his own city. Keep Supes in Metropolis, you morons.

hmmm, i think if some one who had experince working on a comic was part of a movie project could make the best damn comic book movie ever made! unfortunately that hasnt happend (for a dc movie anyway). what i dont get is, why write a new movie? just adapt a storyline! like the death of superman. i didnt like kevin smith's version, not exactly like it. thats what i want. some thing thats exactly the comic or better.

ps- if it were up to me, i'd punch every moron that are screwing up at wb in the face for screwing up the character and not actually trying to make something good. see, they actually put effort into smallville. thats why its good. and im sure they put effort in birds of prey too.

and i think marvel makes good movies because stan lee is on the set. i think he has some authority to say what will work and wont.

the only thing positive i have to say about the new superman script is craptacular!

I'm with you guys, but instead of continuing the comment I'm instead going to say how I'm pissed off that the WB is pissed off.

If they knew what they were doing, or what they were talking about when it came to the world of Batman/Superman and stuff, then I'd side with them. Yes, don't challenge the script right off the bat, blah blah blah, etc. But they're only pissed because they WANT to do that movie that does absolutely NO justice to the characters AT ALL and their only motivation is money. So don't bother expecting my sympathies. They've never liked us or the very comic characters under their license, and this is just another example why. It's not that I'm angry that they don't understand, I'm angry that after so many years of this, they don't seem to WANT to understand.

Oh well. Oh! But don't get me wrong, in keeping with my personality and how I think I'm not losing hope, just getting a bit ticked off at current circumstances is all.

Wow, how depressing. I had hoped against hope that what Aint It had was a completely fake, but obviously it seems that that is not the case. I find it to be a truly awful script and I can't believe WB is this stupid to have actually thought that was the kind of script they should be using for the new Superman movie. Someone should rip the rights to Batman and Superman movies out of their hands and give it to a company with a few more brain cells. It's like everything they touch turns to crap because they can't seem to know how to do movies right anymore. At least WB should get a clue for once and listen to the masses, realize that script is a load of b/s and get a script that's worth making into a movie and that totally doesn't ruin Superman.

I hope they are. I'm glad they are in a panic. They need to realize they can't do all these insipid big blockbuster movies. And I'm especially glad this movie was caught in particular. I really do.

I'm still surrpised how blind those WB execs are to this project. How can they not know Superman's background? Everyone knows it. I really hope the script is completely redone. Hell, adapt Last Son of Krypton and expand on it. That would make an astonishing 2 hour movie right there!

I was feeling the same way, when I read they were pissed I was like "HOW DARE YOU MORONS MAKE SUCH AN AWFUL SCRIPT AND THEN THINK YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO GET PISSED!"...So who signed that petition to have it halted immediately?
