Keanu Reeves as the Man of Steel
Sources at Fox News have stated that Keanu Reeves, star of Warner Bros.'s hit film, The Matrix, will be playing Superman on the silver screen. The final script was written by Jefferey Abrams (The WB's Felicity), and will be directed by Brett Ranter, who directed both Rush Hour movies, and the upcoming Red Dragon.
<img src="http://www.toonzone.net/news/images/2002-09/keanureeves.jpg" align=right alt="image">The film has the working title Superman: Last Son of Krypton. Recently, Superman has been stuggling to return to the big screen. Reports have said Nicolas Cage was to play the man of steel with a script written by Kevin Smith (a.k.a. Silent Bob), but it was eventually abandoned.
The project was later picked up again in May as rumors started to fly around a Batman & Superman feature film staring Jude Law as Superman, and Colin Farrel as Batman, and directed by Wolfgang Petersen (The Prefect Storm). When Law dropped out of the project, another rumor started that Josh Hartnett would replace him. This second attempt was quickly dropped and deemed too expensive. The then chief of production at Warner Bros., Lorenzo di Bonaventura, has been replaced with Alan Horn, who opted for the simplier (and less expensive) Superman script.
After the debate over a Batman/Superman live-action film, excutives at Warner Bros. were impressed with Abrams's final script, which focused around Superman, and left the dark knight, in the dark. No other news of other actors in the film has been confirmed, although there are rumors the original Superman, Christopher Reeve, will be making a cameo in the upcoming project.
