    GHOSBUSTERS 3 script

    Like This Thread!
I know this is fan-fiction, but I wanted some people to see it. The second script I ever wrote. GHOSTBUSTERS III partial script. I kind of like it. Just some scenes I wrote that would have been part of a much larger story (Dana, ect would have been added, as well as more about The People Busters).

    BLACK SCREEN

    FADE IN

    The Columbia Pictures Logo

    FADE TO BLACK

    A caption reads:

    TEN YEARS LATER

    FADE IN ON:

    INT. MEETING ROOM

Winston Zedmore is wearing a business suit, standing in front of a bunch of well-dressed people, making a business presentation.

WINSTON "Our quarter profits are looking real good. Especially the Fright Features line. Now-"

A boy in the first row raises his hand. He seems out of place in this business meeting. The boy smiles.

BOY: "My dad says you're full of crap."

Winston smiles, annoyed and upset. He looks down at the floor, then turns to the door.

    WINSTON: "Ray...hose him!!!"

Ray Stantz steps through the door, wearing a tan Ghostbusters jumpsuit. A slime blower is strapped onto him. Ray smiles.

He turns the slime blower on, and pink strands of slime shoot from it, hitting the boy and covering him with goo. The boy screams and slumps in his seat. Winston smiles.

The image shimmers, and dissolves into real life.

Winston is laying in bed in a darkened room, a smile on his face. It has all been a dream. Ray Stantz lays in a bed a few feet away. Another two beds lay beside them.

    Suddenly an alarm bell sounds.

Winston's eyes snap open. He sits up, and looks groggily around at his surroundings.

WINSTON: (Realzing he's still a Ghostbuster) "No. No...aww no."

Winston drops back onto his pillow, almost dejected.

Various pairs of legs race past Winston. We hear a slight squeak as someone slides down the firepole.

    CUT TO:

    GROUND FLOOR

A slightly larger Egon Spengler and Ray Stantz are opening their lockers as Winston slides down the pole.

    Someone approaches from another room

LOUIS: "Sorry guys. I was checking the messages."

Egon shoots Ray a look. Ray is pulling on his tan Ghostbusters jumpsuit.

    EGON: "I miss Janine."

    Ray smiles.

    CUT TO:

    THE GARAGE

    A siren blares.

    ANGLE ON:

The grille and license of the vehicle.

    Reads:

    ECTO-1B

    ANGLE ON:

    Revolving/flashing blue lights.

    CUT TO:

    EXT. FIREHOUSE

An aerial view of the firehouse.

Ecto-1B pulls out into traffic, mixing with the other traffic, heading toward a bridge. The sign on top is scrolling:

    HALF PRICE

    CUT TO:

    EXT. CIRCUS TENT

Ecto-1B pulls up and the siren dies. The doors open, and the Ghostbusters jump out, clad in tan jumpsuits, elbow pads, and black boots and gloves. Ray wears a pair of ecto-goggles. He is smoking a cigar.

As Ray turns to look around, we see his shoulder patch, the original Ghostbusters logo.

A man in a suit runs out from a nearby trailer to meet them.

CIRCUS OWNER: "Oh, thank God...I didn't know what to do, and there is a performance tonight."

Egon looks at the owner. Ray is pulling the rack with proton pack rack out of the back of the car.

EGON: "Has this ever happened before?"

    The owner shakes his head.

CIRCUS OWNER: "No...they..."interrupted" last night's performance. I didn't know what to do."

    LOUIS: "They?"

Egon has taken his PKE meter out and taking readings. The stalks go almost vertical.

RAY (Strapping on his proton pack): "Relax, sir..."

    He pulls his glove tighter.

    RAY: "We're the Ghostbusters."

The three other Ghostbusters strap on their packs, heaving and grunting, then join Ray, who is standing in front of the tent. A ghostly wind blows the tent flap a little.

RAY: "I have a bad feeling about this."

Louis is trying not to fall over under the weight of his pack.

    LOUIS: "Me too."

    Winston nods.

EGON: "It can't be any worse than last Halloween."

    Ray smiles.

One by one, they draw their particle throwers and walk in a line into the tent.

    Inside, it is barely lit.

    CUT TO:

    INT. TENT

They enter, looking around, goggles down. Viscous mucous drips from the wooden posts that hold up the tent. Winston scowls. His lip curls in disgust.

WINSTON: "Slime. Never get used to it."

Egon looks around, holding up the PKE meter.

    EGON: "There's definitely something here..."

He steps further into the tent, looking down at the ground, taking more readings.

    EGON: "Something big."

Ray looks up, and his jaw drops open.

    ANGLE ON:

    Ray's face. Terrified.

    RAY: "Egon..."

Winston and Louis look up, see what Ray is looking at, and they freeze.

    RAY: "Egon..."

Egon is taking readings from the sawdust.

    EGON: "Something very big..."

He follows the readings upward, and looks up. His eyes widen slowly.

A grotesque ghost elephant stands there. It trumpets.

    Egon staggers backward.

The Ghostbusters switch on their particle throwers as they back away.

    WINSTON: "Wow."

Ray looks at the elephant. He shrugs.

    RAY: "This is new."

Suddenly the Elephant's trunk bunches up.

    ANGLE ON:

Louis. He freezes, and his eyes go wide.

It straightens, and a thick stream of pink slime sprays from it...all over Louis. Louis screams and falls to the ground, writhing and squealing.

LOUIS: "Help! Help! Ahhh! Ewww! Oh gahhh!"

    RAY: "Cook it!"

The particle throwers blast positron streams at the elephant, which turns and tries to run. But the three streams loop around it's midsection, and hold it.

Egon smiles, his face illuminated as his hands shake, trying to hold the blaster.

    EGON: "Weeehaaa!"

Ray looks at Egon, then at the elephant. He smiles.

RAY: "All right! We've got her!"

He looks at the other standing Ghostbusters.

RAY: "I'm gonna set the trap down!"

He unhooks the ghost trap from his belt and slides it out under the elephant.

Suddenly the elephant's trunk shoots out to an impossible length and grabs the slime-covered Louis from thirty feet away, pulling him into the air.

    LOUIS: "YaaaaAAAHHHHH!"

The Ghostbusters freeze, shutting off their streams.

    RAY: "Uh oh."

The three Ghostbusters stand there, unsure of what to do.

    LOUIS: "Nice elephant...nice...nice elephant..."

The elephant's mouth opens ridiculously wide, revealing rows of jagged yellow teeth. It holds Louis over it's gaping maw.

    LOUIS: "AHHHHH!"

Egon fires the particle thrower at the elephant's front leg. The beam strikes the ghost.

The elephant trumpets, and enraged, flings Louis through the air...

    LOUIS: "Yahhhhhhhh!"

...into a pile of hay bales.

    ANGLE ON:

The three Ghostbusters. In a line. They level their particle throwers.

Ray fires. Egon fires. Winston fires.

The elephant is caught in the streams. It bucks and bellows, trying to get away.

    EGON: "Ray! The trap!"

Ray steps on the lever. The trap opens a little. A light emits from it.

    RAY: "On three! One..."

Egon and Winston pour it on, holding the elephant. It's trunk starts flailing wildly about.

    RAY: "Two..."

He puts his foot over the trap lever.

    RAY: "Three!"

The other two Ghostbusters shut off their particle throwers and look away.

Ray steps on the lever. A grid of light and bluish electricity shoots from the trap, and sucks the ghost down into it. The panels slam closed.

Ray looks at the trap. A small red light blinking on and off. He looks up at the other Ghostbusters.

Egon wipes sweat from his brow as in the background, Winston helps Louis to his feet.

    Ray starts chuckling.

Suddenly the wind picks up. The Ghostbusters look up. An entire ghost circus has materialized. Trapeze artists, a lion tramer, a lion, clowns, a strong man.

EGON: "Odd. This is a tremendous amount of psycho kinetic energy for such a contained area."

Egon looks at Ray. Ray looks at him.

    CUT TO:

    EXT. TENT

The Ghostbusters come running from the tent, almost tripping over themselves. The circus owner watches as they throw their proton packs into the back, and jump into Ecto-1B, slamming the doors.

CIRCUS OWNER: "Wait! What do I do?"

Winston sticks his head out the back window as Ecto-1B pulls away.

    WINSTON: "Cancel!"

The circus owner frowns as he realizes what's happened. Eerie strains began to play...

The Ghostbusters Logo materializes, the ghost holding out three fingers this time.

    "GHOSTBUSTERS" begins to play.

    Words appear, ectoplasmic blue:

    GHOSTBUSTERS 3

Ecto-1B drives along the highway, on the way home as credits roll...

    CUT TO:

    THE FIRESTATION

Ray and Egon are sitting at a table in the Ghostbusters kitchen, off their rec room. Winston is watching TV in the rec room.

    RAY: "Egon?"

Egon looks up from a project.

    RAY: "What happened, Egon?"

Egon doesn't anwer. He's fiddling with something.

RAY: "I've never seen so many ghosts at once!"

Egon is writing something on a clipboard.

EGON: "There was an entire circus tent burned to the ground in 1911 on that spot. Many of the performers perished. But That much psycho kinetic energy in one place requires a huge conductor. We could be dealing with something very big."

Louis enters the room, hair wet from a recent shower.

LOUIS: "I'm gonna go get some food. You guys want anything?"

They all shake their heads. Louis smiles and leaves, pulling the rec room door closed behind him.

LOUIS: (Oustside the door, muffled) "Oh wait...forgot my wallet."

Ray smiles as the door handle jiggles.

LOUIS: (Outside the door, muffled) "Hey...hey! I'm locked out! Let me innn!!!"

    CUT TO:

A WALL SOMEWHERE IN NEW YORK

A brick wall in an alley.

Strange electricity crackles through the wall, and three figures step from the wall. As the dust clears, we see that they are grotesque ghosts, clad in Ghostbuster-like jumpsuits. They have patches on their shoulder depicting a human in a prohibition circle. There is a tall ghost with glasses, a short fat one, and a middle sized one. The ghosts walk through the alley, eyes glowing red.

A bum is sitting on the stairs in front of them. The three ghosts stop.

One smiles, pulling his neutron blaster, thumbing it on. The bum looks up as he fires, snaring him in a lasso of negative energy. The second ghost throws a "people trap" to the ground and steps on the lever. A brilliant light sucks the bum into the trap, which closes. The three ghosts smile.

    CUT TO:

    A TV STUDIO

Peter Venkman sits at a table, a la David Letterman. A woman sits opposite him.

PETER: "We're back, with WORLD OF THE PSYCHIC. I'm your host, Dr. Peter Venkman. With me tonight is world renowned psychic Jessica Sanders."

    He turns to his guest.

"Ms. Sanders. You said you have some predictions to make. Go ahead..."

    The woman looks uncomfortable.

MS. SANDERS: "I believe...that the spirit world will soon cross into our plane..."

    Peter shakes his head.

    PETER: "Cross into our plane?"

    She nods.

MS. SANDERS: "Over the past three years, I have been contacted many times, and told of an event on the horizon. Something so terrible...so grand...that...that..."

    Peter smiles.

PETER: (Joking) "Well...there's uh...there's always the Ghostbusters."

    The audience laughs. Peter smiles.

PETER: "But seriously. Do you have any proof of these...occurrences?"

    The woman shakes her head.

MS. SANDERS: "I was not told much."

    Peter smiles.

    PETER: "I see. Well..."

He turns toward the camera and makes the "Loony" sign.

    The audience laughs.

PETER: "We here at World of The Psychic strive to bring you the truth. So maybe..."

    The woman scowls.

MS. SANDERS: "Do not trifle with the spirit world, Dr. Venkman. They are easily angered."

    Peter nods.

PETER: "They sure are. I'd like to take this oppurtunity to tell you about my new book, New Year's Evil."

He holds up a book with the picture of the Statue of Liberty on it.

PETER: "It chronicles my adventures in paranormal investigation, before and after Ghostbusting. Available now at-"

Suddenly there are screams from the audience. Peter looks out into the audience.

    PETER: "What the hell?"

Three ghostly figures are walking toward the stage. A security guard steps in front of them.

    GUARD: "Stop!"

One of the ghosts' eyes glows red, and he opens his mouth, revealing rows of jagged teeth. The Guard turns and runs. Peter stands and looks on as the three ghosts step onstage.

PETER: "Hi! Welcome to World of the Psychic! I'm Dr.-"

    TALL GHOST: (Hiss) "Vennnnkkkkmannnn."

Peter freezes, and his eyes flicker behind him.

PETER: "Yes...I'm...Dr. Peter Venkman. And you are?"

    The ghost snarls.

    Peter looks confused.

    PETER: "Ok..."

The short fat ghost reaches for a proton gun and points it at him.

    PETER: "Hey!"

The ghost fires and a strange beam envelops him. A strange blue light courses through Peter. We've seen it before. With Gozer, and later Vigo.

    PETER: "Ouch."

    ANGLE ON:

A trap slides across the floor, rolling to a stop right between Peter's legs.

    PETER: "You're kidding."

The short fat ghost gives him a toothy smile and steps on the trap.

A light fills the room. When it clears, Peter is gone, and the trap is blinking.

    CUT TO:

    FIREHOUSE BASEMENT

Egon stands at the Containment Unit, clipboard in hand.

    EGON: "Interesting..."

Ray has come down the stairs.

    RAY: "What's wrong?"

Egon turns and looks at Stantz.

EGON: "I was taking some readings..."

He hands Ray the clipboard. Ray's eyes widen and he looks up.

    RAY: "Another Twinkie?"

    Egon shakes his head.

EGON: "Not yet. But something is going on in there..."

    Focus on the Containment Unit.

Egon and Ray look at each other.

EGON: "Something's stirring them up, causing massive energy fluctuations."

    CUT TO:

    REC ROOM

Winston is watching TV. Louis comes in, approaches.

LOUIS: "So uh...so...how long have you been a Ghostbuster?"

    Winston looks up.

    WINSTON: "Too long."

    He smiles.

    WINSTON: "Why?"

    Louis shrugs.

    LOUIS: "Just...ya know...wondering."

    CUT TO:

    THE BASEMENT.

    Egon sighs.

    RAY: "What's wrong?"

    Egon shakes his head.

EGON: "We're too old for this, Ray..."

    Ray nods.

    RAY: "Two old men."

    He snickers.

RAY: "Did you ever picture it turning out like this?"

    Egon smiles.

EGON: "Covered in slime? Ostracized? Saving the world?"

    He smiles.

    EGON: "No."

    Ray smiles back.

    RAY: "Me either, Spengs...me either."

    Egon looks at the clipboard.

    EGON: "This is bad."

    Ray looks concerned.

    RAY: "What's bad?"

Egon looks at the chart on his clipboard.

EGON: "I've been charting supernatural activity over the last few months."

    He hands Ray the clipboard.

EGON: "It's increasing at an alarming rate."

    Ray scowls.

    RAY: "Wow. It is."

EGON: "Ray, we can't keep this pace up. Not alone."

    Ray nods.

RAY: "What did you have in mind?"

    Egon smiles.

    CUT TO:

    THE STREET

An appliance store. The crowd is walking by it as...

    A commercial begins to play.

    "Who ya gonna call?"

The Ghostbusters logo appears. As it fades, Egon, Ray, and Winston stand there.

    EGON: "Are you brave?"

    RAY: "Do you seek adventure?"

WINSTON: "Do you believe in the supernatural?"

    CUT TO:

    POST OFFICE

People waiting in line are watching a small TV on the wall.

    Louis enters the frame.

LOUIS: "Then...then maybe you have what it takes to be a Ghostbuster."

He looks back at the others, then back at the screen.

    LOUIS: "Now hiring."

A telephone number and address flashes onscreen.

    CUT TO:

    THE STREET

The crowd is watching. They start to talk in murmurs.

    CUT TO:

    EXT. FIREHOUSE, THE NEXT DAY

Men and women, and some children are lined up. One by one they are admitted to the firehouse, where Egon and Ray are asking them questions.

EGON: "Do you believe in U.F.O.'s, astral projection, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, full-trance mediums, telekinetic movement, the theory of Atlantis, the Loch Ness Monster, and ghosts?

    PAN OVER

Ray is saying the same thing to another applicant.

    FADE TO:

    INT. FIREHOUSE, DAYS LATER

A number of metal chairs are set up. There are fifteen or so young men or women in the chairs. Egon, Ray, and Winston stand in front of them.

RAY: "You have volunteered to become Ghostbusters. It's not an easy job, but it is fulfilling. In the next few days, we are going to teach you the ins and outs of Ghostbusting. Some of you will become real Ghostbusters. Some of you..."

He looks at a young man placing gum in a woman's hair.

    RAY: "Won't."

    He smiles at the "class"

These are a few of the scenes that would have showed the training of the new Ghostbusters.

    CUT TO:

    A ROOM IN THE FIREHOUSE

Winston points to a proton pack on a table. A group of prospective Ghostbusters watches.

WINSTON: "The proton pack. It is not a toy. It is a weapon. It uses supercharged positive energy to create a contained atmosphere around a ghost. It's powered by nuclear fuel cells. The most important thing to know...is don't...under any circumstances...cross the streams."

A young man raises his hand.

    "Why?"

    Winston smiles.

WINSTON: "Try to imagine all life as you know it..."

    His voice fades out as...

    FADE TO:

    ANOTHER ROOM

Egon stands in front of another group.

EGON: "There are several theories on the supernatural. Today you will learn the basics of the Belsen theory."

    CUT TO:

    THE GARAGE

A training excercise. A row of prospective Ghostbusters pulls their proton blasters as one.

    Winston smiles.

    WINSTON: "Good. Good."

    CUT TO:

    A ROOM

Ray is holding up a ghost trap.

RAY: "The trick to the trap...is to get it as close to the ghost as possible. If you do that, you reduce the possibility of the ghost escaping...which can be nasty."

    CUT TO:

    ANOTHER ROOM

Louis is standing before another group.

LOUIS: "So there I was...Between the restaurant and the dog. But I wasn't gonna go without a fight! So I grabbed a chair!"

    CUT TO:

    THE GARAGE

A mass exercise. The prospective Ghostbusters are doing toe touches. Ray watches one of the young women. He smiles. Egon nudges him. Ray looks up. Egon shakes his head. Ray scowls.

    CUT TO:

    THE GARAGE

Egon is standing in front of a room full of "students". He smiles.

EGON: "The test you have will test your knowledge of the things you were trained in. The supernatural, what to do in certain situations...you have an hour to complete it. Begin.

The students bend over their tests.

    After the training.

    CUT TO:

    THE GARAGE

Egon, Ray, Winston and Louis stand before a group of four. Two men, and two women.

EGON: "You are the best of the original applicants..."

He looks at the others, then at the four.

    EGON: "Welcome to the Ghostbusters."

The Ghostbusters start clapping. A line forms, and Ray hands out arm patches.

Egon and Winston are standing behind Ray.

    WINSTON: "What do you think?"

    EGON: "They'll do."

    CUT TO:

    A HOTEL ROOM.

A man is laying on the bed, in a tux.

    WOMAN: (Offscreen) "Don't laugh..."

    The man smiles.

    MAN: "Come on, Hon..."

    CUT TO:

    THE BATHROOM

The woman is adjusting her lingerie. She smiles. Suddenly a ghostly figure steps through the wall, pulling a proton blaster. The woman screams.

    CUT TO:

    THE HOTEL ROOM

The man sees a light show and hears a zapping sound. He hurries toward the bathroom.

    ANGLE ON:

His face. He goes white, and his hair begins to blow.

    MAN: "AHHHHHH!"

    BLACKNESS.

    FADE TO:

    NEW YORK CITY.

    A TV SCREEN

    A newsman:

"New York is overrun with them. Ghosts and Ghostbusters. Citing a need for more protection in the wake of increased supernatural activity, the Ghostbusters have begun training new members. It's only a matter of time before the supernatural activity in New York is brought to a total standstill."

A montage of images. Magazine covers, young Ghostbusters walking down the street, carrying smoking traps.

After the Ghostbusters meet The People Busters for the first time

Egon, Ray, Winston, Louis, and the four new Ghostbusters stand around a table. Egon has a map of the city spread out on the table.

EGON: "Something is causing a major increase on supernatural activity. An increase so large...it can mean one thing."

    He pauses.

EGON: "Somewhere in New York, there's a portal, a gateway to the spirit realm."

    Winston looks at him.

    WINSTON: "How did this happen?"

    Egon shakes his head.

EGON: "I'm not sure. It's possible that some...master ghost...similair to Vigo and Gozer...took advantage of a fluctuation between realms..."

He and Ray study the map.

RAY: "We've got to find this doorway and seal it up."

    Louis shoulders his way in.

    LOUIS: "What if we can't?"

Egon just gives Louis a worried look.

One of the younger Ghostbusters looks at Egon.

    TRAINEE: "Let's find it."

    Egon smiles.

EGON: "It's not that simple. It could be anywhere. In any building. Any wall, a statue, a fountain..."

    He looks at Ray, worried.

    EGON: "But-"

He traces a circle on the map with his index finger.

EGON: "The supernatural activity is centered here. If we spread out, we have a decent chance of finding it."

    Ray sighs.

RAY: "No good. We'll be sitting ducks for those...People Busters."

Louis and Winston exchange worried glances.

TRAINEE 2: "This does no good. We have to do something!"

    Ray nods.

RAY: "He's right. The fate of the world again..."

    Winston chuckles.

    WINSTON: "Suit up?"

Ray looks at Egon. Egon nods.

    RAY: "Suit up."

    CUT TO:

    EXT FIREHOUSE

The garage doors swing open and Ecto-1B pulls out.

    ANGLE ON:

A white fender, a license plate:

    ECTO-2

    ANGLE ON:

    Revolving blue lights.

Another vehicle, a white van, made up much like Ecto-1B pulls from the garage.

    CUT TO:

    INT. ECTO-2

Louis is driving. He looks at the Trainees behind him.

LOUIS: "So anyway...she's standing there, half naked..."

    CUT TO:

    EXT. ECTO-1B and ECTO-2

The two vehicles drive through the streets.

    CUT TO:

    ANOTHER STREET

    Ecto-1B has slowed.

    CUT TO:

    INT. ECTO-1B

Egon looks out at the street. People are screaming, running from something. It's the People Busters.

    CUT TO:

    EXT. ECTO-1B

The car stops. The van stops behind it.

The doors of both vehicles open and the Ghostbusters jump out, heading for the backs of their vehicles.

Slowly, the original Ghostbusters pull on their proton packs. Ray looks at the others.

    RAY: "This is it."

    He looks at Egon.

The other team of Ghostbusters comes from behind the van. Their proton packs are on. Louis scowls.

    LOUIS: "What now?"

Egon holds up a PKE meter.

    EGON: "That way."

The Ghostbusters form a line, and start walking down the street.

    RAY: "Pull 'em, boys."

All eight Ghostbusters pull their particle throwers and lower them.

The wind picks up. Egon looks up.

    EGON: "They're here."

Suddenly three figures land in front of the Ghostbusters.

    LOUIS: "There!"

Egon looks at Ray. Ray is looking at the People Busters. Winston sighs.

    WINSTON: "This is it."

    RAY: "Heat 'em up."

Egon, Ray, Winston, Louis and the other four Ghostbusters ignite their blasters. The People Busters do the same.

    We've got an old-fashioned standoff.

Suddenly the wind picks up. The four Ghostbuster trainees behind the normal four turn. There are ghosts swooping down. They scream as the ghosts pass over them, over and over. Ray, Egon, Winston and Louis just watch, horrified. The trainees have fallen to the ground, overcome by the negative slime effect.

    The remaining four Ghostbusters whirl.

    RAY: "For Peter."

    Winston nods.

    WINSTON: "For Peter."

    Egon tries to look mad.

    EGON: "For Peter."

Ray hits a switch and the nozzle on his particle thrower clicks open. The other three Ghostbusters do the same.

    RAY: "Blast 'em!"

The four Ghostbusters fire particle streams at the People Busters, who leap into the air, and fly over their heads.

    WINSTON: (Annoyed) "They can fly..."

The three Ghostbusters whirl and deliver another volley.

The People Busters reach for their weapons.

    EGON: "Wait!"

The Ghostbusters stop firing, and the People Busters freeze. Egon looks at the tall one.

EGON: "If our streams cross...total protonic reversal. All of us will cease to exist."

The tall People Buster looks at Egon. He understands. He turns to his friends.

    EGON: "Now!"

He fires, catching his doppleganger in a stream. Winston does the same. So does Louis.

Ray slides a trap across the cement.

    RAY: "Hold 'em!"

The dopplegangers are bucking and writhing, trying to break free. They lift into the air. The Ghostbusters hold them.

    Ray smiles.

    RAY: "Opening the trap!"

He steps on the pedal, and the Ghostbusters shut off their weapons.

The People Busters shriek as they are sucked down into it.

The trap snaps shut, and the light blinks.

There is silence. Finally Egon looks at the trap.

    EGON: "They're in there."

The trap rattles, a strange electricity coursing through it. Ray smiles.

    RAY: "Wow."

Suddenly the street rumbles. Large chunks start to break off and fall into darkness below. The Ghostbusters watch as a brilliant light appears. A figure rises from the a dark hole in the street.

When the smoke clears, Peter Venkman stands there.

    RAY: "Peter!"

Peter smiles. Then his eyes flash. Egon grabs Ray.

Egon is holding up the PKE meter. The needles are vertical.

EGON: "It's not Peter. It's some kind of...master ghost."

    Peter smiles...

    PETER: "Hello, Ray..."

Ray scowls and looks at Louis and Winston, who have raised their particle throwers.

    RAY: "Wait..."

    Peter starts to walk closer.

    PETER: "I'm ok...see? It's me!"

Ray lowers his gun at Peter.

    RAY: "Don't come any closer..."

    Louis steps beside him.

    LOUIS: "Don't shoot!"

Peter turns. He smiles at Louis.

PETER: "It's good to see you, Louis."

A look of shock comes over Louis.

    LOUIS: "Blast him!"

He opens fire on Peter, who suddenly snarls and leaps high into the air, avoiding the blast.

Egon watches as Peter lands a block away.

He turns and starts marching toward Peter, his thrower pointed at him.

His cover blown, the ghost changes. He is now a doppleganger of a young man.

Egon pulls his blaster and levels it at the ghost. He fires. the ghost hisses, his eyes red, and then the beam strikes him. He jerks, and looks up at Egon.

    MASTER GHOST: (Deep, unnatural): "Eeeeeegonnnnnnnnn!!!"

Another beam strikes him. Then another. And another. The Master Ghost is caught in the beams. He writhes.

    Suddenly a voice rings out.

    "Who ya gonna call?"

Ray, Egon, Winston, and Louis look back.

Peter Venkman, slime dripping off him, pulls a proton blaster from the pack on his back. He's taken it from one of the out of action new Ghostbusters.

    PETER: "Hey...Bug Eyes!!!"

    He thumbs the blaster on.

    PETER: "I owe you something."

He levels the blaster. He fires, his beam snaking into the Master Ghost.

    RAY: "Egon?"

Egon pulls a trap from his belt, and slides it across the pavement. The Master Ghost hisses loudly.

    Egon smiles.

His foot presses down on the lever.

The trap opens, light snaking skyward.

    EGON: "Now!"

The blasters stop, as the trap closes.

    The Ghostbusters look away.

The Master Ghost screams as he rises into the air, desperate.

    He escapes it's pull.

But a positron stream comes from nowhere, ensnaring him. And drags him down into the trap.

The trap's grid catches him, and he is pulled down into the trap. The doors shut.

The Ghostbusters look over. Louis's proton blaster is smoking. Louis, wearing Ecto-goggles, smiles sheepishly.

    LOUIS: "He was getting away."

Peter, dripping with slime, wipes his face on his sleeve.

    PETER: "Only in New York."

His friends rush to hug him.

RAY: "Pete! Are you ok? How are you here?"

    Peter shrugs.

PETER: "Hell if I know. I just kind of walked through that wall over there."

He points toward a wide alley

The Ghostbusters look at the wall. Spectres are phasing through it, easily, flying off through the city.

Egon looks at the wall, his PKE meter up.

EGON: "That's it. The doorway to the spirit realm.

    He looks at Ray.

    EGON: "It's begun."

    Peter smiles.

PETER: "How do we close it? It's not nice in there."

    Egon looks at Peter.

EGON: "It's a gate to the spirit world..."

    Peter nods.

PETER: "Yeah. That's great. Egon, how do we close it?"

Ray steps beside Egon, and lowers his blaster.

RAY: "The positive energy from out particle throwers?"

    Egon nods.

    EGON: "It's conceivable."

He pulls his own particle thrower.

Peter smiles, looks at his arm, dripping with slime. He thumbs his own particle thrower on. Winston and Louis step into line beside them, lowering their particle throwers. Spectres continue to pour from the gate.

    RAY: "Throw it!"

The five Ghostbusters fire streams into the wall. The streams disappear, snaking into another realm. Ray looks at Egon.

RAY: "It's not enough. We need more positive energy!"

    Egon looks around.

    EGON: "Lengthen the streams!"

The Ghostbusters make small adjustments, and the positron stream turns bright blue.

The wall starts to bow, as if reality is bending.

WINSTON: "It's working! Pour it on!"

The wall starts to suck itself inward, then pulses back outward.

    Ray looks at Egon.

RAY: "The energies from a ghost trap...would it have a positive effect?"

    Egon thinks for a minute.

EGON: "Winston! Throw your trap in there!"

Winston reaches up with one hand and pulls his ghost trap free. He throws it right through the wall, then looks at Egon.

    EGON: "Open it!"

Winston jams his foot down on the trap pedal, and there is a boom from inside the other dimension.

The Ghostbusters hold their streams on the portal.

    EGON: "Close it!"

Winston hits the pedal again, and there is a sucking sound. The wall shudders, and starts to suck itself in. The trap pedal is sucked into the wall. As it sucks, it reveals a grey wall behind it. A small light starts to grow, then shrinks away.

    EGON: "Shut the streams off!"

    The Ghostbusters kill their streams.

There is a loud whoosing sound as the wall disappears from our plane. No more ghosts come from it.

    LOUIS: "What happened?"

Egon looks at Ray and smiles, nodding.

RAY: "We...neutronized the spirit world. It...imploded on itself."

The Ghostbusters turn around and watch as ghostly shapes float over the skyline.

RAY: "Although we've still got our work cut out for us..."

    He looks at Egon.

    RAY: "One more time, Egon?"

    He holds out his glove.

    Egon lays his on top.

    EGON: "One more time. Winston?"

    Winston smiles.

    WINSTON: "Why not?"

He lays his hand on the others. Louis joins the pile. The other four Ghostbusters look at Peter.

    RAY: "Peter?"

Peter looks at his particle thrower. He tries to hide a smile. Then he shrugs.

PETER: "Praise the lord and pass the particle throwers."

He slaps his hand down onto the pile

    ANGLE ON:

The hands. The Ghostbusters are together again.

    CUT TO:

"Ghostbusters" begins to play as Peter, Egon and Ray race down the street, carrying a smoking trap.

A montage of the old and newer Ghostbusters catching the loose ghosts as the credits roll.

    CUT TO:

    INT. NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Ghostbuster have caught The Librarian Ghost from the first movie in their positron streams. A trap slides across the floor.

    ANGLE ON:

    Ray's face, goggles down.

He smiles. Something flashes, reflected in his goggles. He's closed the trap.

    CUT TO:

AN AERIAL VIEW OF NEW YORK-DAY

Something rockets up toward us from the streets below. Something green. Slimer envelops the screen.

    Roll credits.

If I'm not mistaken, there is another movie at least being discussed.

Doesn't look like it right now. Dan Aykroyd wrote the script a few years ago, but, according to a statement he made on Access Hollywood in 1999, the studio didn't see how it could be economically feasible. An early draft of Ghostbusters 3: Hellbent was recently reviewed by ign.com's FilmForce -- click here to read the review. It's somewhat negative, but remember, this was the first draft of the screenplay. Some of the problems would no doubt have been remedied by the time cameras started rolling. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll ever get to find out.

GB3 is as good as dead. Bill Murray doesn't want any part of it, and the script got terrible reviews. I believe Akroyd's plans were to use actors like Chris Farley and Chris Rock as the new Ghostbusters being trained, but that never panned out. It's a moot point, because without Peter, it's not GHOSTBUSTERS>

Actually The Guard , Bill Murray did agree to it in some fashion, and no, Chris Farley and Chris Rock were not gonna be involved. Read below. This comes from IGN...

July 30, 2002 - Stax here with my reaction to the screenplay for Ghostbusters 3: Hellbent! This 122-page first draft dated March 10, 1999 is by actor Dan Aykroyd, based on a story by Aykroyd and co-star Harold Ramis. Sadly, this highly anticipated sequel appears quite dead now. The many reasons why this Columbia Pictures-based project likely won't get off the ground are cited below.

Dan Aykroyd last addressed Ghostbusters 3 back in November 1999, several months after this draft is dated. The original Ghostbuster advised Access Hollywood that GB3 "doesn't look like it's going to happen for the same reason they aren't going to make Men in Black 2." (And we all know what happened with that project now, don't we?) "The cost is too excessive for the studio to see it to be economically feasible," said Akyroyd. "It is a shame too because everyone wants to do it. Even Bill Murray said he would work a few days on it. I did finish a script. Harold Ramis liked parts of it. [Series director] Ivan Reitman liked parts of it too. There is definitely an interest from all of the original parties involved to make it. However, the studio just does not want to take the risk. In my opinion, the successes of the other two give the impression that there is a good chance of profit for a third sequel. So unfortunately, it looks like its just not going to happen based on the studio's feelings, not from anyone else."

Harold Ramis told Entertainment Weekly back in February 1999 that the "dream plan is that Danny and I would produce it, I would direct it, and we would recruit some newer, younger, popular Ghostbusters to star." Cinescape Online reported in 1998 that the "film is rumored to follow Raymond Stantz (Aykroyd) and Egon Spengler (Ramis) as they cope with Peter Venkman's (Bill Murray) departure with Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver), plus their attempt to stay employed while fighting a new otherworldly entity, possibly Hades, the Greek god of the underworld."

Having now read this March 1999 draft, I can confirm that the sequel does adhere to that general plot line (at least in this draft). Without revealing too many spoilers, Ghostbusters 3: Hellbent suggests that hell (portrayed as a stygian mirror image of The Big Apple dubbed "Manhellton") has grown overcrowded and congested. As a result, hell is literally evicting people back into the world of the living in order to alleviate their congestion problem.

Obviously, this isn't good for our world so the Ghostbusters must use their latest technology to literally go to hell and ask the devil why he's doing this and to see what they can do to make him stop. Naturally, the devil – portrayed here as a Donald Trump-like mogul named Siffler – has a secret agenda that leads to a grand conflict with our titular heroes. The Ghostbusters must once again save New York City from the evil forces of the afterlife.

There is indeed a younger crop of Ghostbusters (or, as the script abbreviates it, GBs) introduced that perform much of the otherworldly legwork here. This new crew includes: Franky, a body-pierced, tough New Jersey punker; Lovell, a dread-locked dude; Moira, a pretty but uptight gymnast and science grad; and Carla, a Latino beauty. There's also Nat, a prepubescent genius whose powerful brain has made his head abnormally large. Despite his youth, Nat serves as a supervisor for the new GBs. That's all we ever get to know about these characters (we don't even learn their last names!) and they're our guides throughout most of the story.

I'm not exactly asking for brilliantly delineated characterizations here but even the original team had their own distinct personalities, voices, and senses of humor. These young bucks are practically interchangeable. They all behave and sound alike, and get along relatively well. There's no real conflict between them nor is there a dominant personality as there was amongst the original GBs. These would be the script's worst mistakes if it weren't for the revelation that these young turks aren't especially funny or charming, either.

That's what shocked and disappointed me the most about this draft of Ghostbusters 3: it was more jargon than jokes. Bill Murray/Peter Venkman doesn't appear until the end and then it's only a cameo (he's portrayed in a way you've never seen before, which was the script's most memorable gag). There's also no sign of Sigourney Weaver's character Dana nor is there any mention of her kid Oscar (remember him?), who you'd think might be included among these new, younger GBs given his importance in the last film.

Ray (Aykroyd), Egon (Ramis), and Winston (Ernie Hudson, now referred to as "Dr. Zeddemore") have prominent supporting roles here. (Louis Tully and Janine have cameos.) The action is driven forward by the younger GBs. Whenever the original GBs are in a scene, my interest – and the story itself – picked up. I've never been a huge fan of TV series or films featuring "the next generation" of characters, with Star Trek being an arguable exception (although I still prefer the classic Trek).

You fall in love with some characters for very specific reasons and sometimes it's just impossible to see new actors take over those series/franchises. I think Ghostbusters might be such a case but if these new GBs had more personality, if they were developed further, perhaps I'd have accepted the transition. I just never cared about these new Ghostbusters, though.

The plot line about hell being overcrowded and needing to evict people was relatively amusing but isn't the whole "New York is Hell" sentiment rather tired now? And I don't even want to get into the post-9/11 issues that any film about New York City being endangered will likely face now. (Of course, I compartmentalized those issues given that this script predates the tragedies.) Rather than it being the wrong time for GB3 perhaps now might actually be the perfect time for it. After all, the Ghostbusters films offer pure escapism, politically correct villains, and a wish fulfillment/fantasy about being able to save The Big Apple from (excuse the phrase) phantom menaces. I just can't say that I liked the GB3 yarn that this draft offered.

As a huge fan of the original film, I'd much rather see a GB3 where the old gang must strap their backpacks on for one last mission (even without Murray, though he'd be sorely missed) rather than see pretenders to the throne get the bulk of screen time. That's just me, though. Obviously, the series' creators see the sequel differently so I must respect their ideas. I just wasn't as entertained by this draft as I wanted to be (and I really wanted to love this script). Given that there has been no development on this project for almost three years, however, my reservations about Ghostbusters 3 appear to be moot. – STAX
It's too bad another Ghostbusters movie will never happen. With special effects the way they are today, it will blow the 80's special effects away, even though those were pretty good. With rewrites and some work, that script could actually do pretty good. I mean, you can't really have a same story as the first 2, and dealing with Hell, is actually a pretty good idea. But having the younger Ghostbusters needs to go. The 4 of them need to get together for one last bust and call it quits.

I dunno, I think a GB3 today would be like the differences between MIB and MIIB. They're talking about "econimically feasible" and we saw the "econimically feasible" MIIB, it just wouldn't be comparable to GB1&2...

I dunno, the idea for characters really scares me, the "Carla, a Latino beauty" makes me think they were planning on casting someone like jennifer lopez which would just kill it right there I think...

The actual rumor was that Aykroyd was developing a part for Chris Farley and also wanted someone along the lines of Will Smith (not Chris Rock). But that rumor dates back to 1996. Farley eventually died at the end of 1997, ending any chances of his actually being in the movie. A significant coincidence is that in the original Ghostbusters, Dan Aykroyd wrote the part of Peter Venkman specifically for John Belushi, who died right before filming. The part then went to Bill Murray. So that's another similarity between the two heavyset SNL comedians who both died at age 33 from an overdose involving cocaine.

The problems with MIIB were in the script, not in how much Sony spent on the technical aspect. One has nothing to do with the other.

Why make an assumption like that? Not every Latino beauty role goes to someone like J-Lo.

I think the premise of this script was terrific, especially the new group of young GB trainees. Chris Farley would have been perfect for this movie. But even without him, there's still plenty of young actors who would be great in a movie like this. The studio should take a chance on Aykroyd and Ramis.

The plotline dose kinda remind me of "Extreme Ghostbusters" from A few years back. Egon recruits some young Ghostbusters to help continue the business. One way for this script could work would be if bot the old, and the new crew joined forces to save the world, and the old crew can finally call it quits.

Well it sounds like they would go for people who are currently famous and since lopez fits the bill and since she has already been in movies before.

On the issue of Chris Farley's character, as it was mentioned by someone in an earlier thread on GB3, Jack Black seems like he could fit the part.
