Top Summer Movies! What were the best?

    Like This Thread!
Well, I must say, this has been a REALLY GOOD Movie summer. And now, Summer is just about over. I believe Planet of the Apes capped it off nicely. Many will complain that the summer movies aren't over until after Rush Hour 2 comes out. But we have to wait till next friday...that's a long way..like..a whole week. Anyway...untill then, here's the big question...

What are the top 5 best movies this summer?
And remember...opinions are nothing to cut throats over.

    Anyway, here's my list:

#5. Atlantis: The lost Empire- The best Disney movie so far, IMHO. I showed those who saw it, that animated movies can still be really good. I liked EVERYTHING about this movie. But in the end, it is Disney..

#4. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within- Ouch. What was supposed to be a really big step, turned out to bite. In the end, I was happy that they didn't "flaunt" the CGI to much. And I was happy that it actually had a story. Plus, that guy died in the end..you did not expect that..I was so happy..and unexpected ending. wow...

#3. Evolution- I loved this movie. The concept of basically, normal, but smart guys, fighting against the end of the world, I love that. I loved it back in Ghostbusters, & I loved it 10 times more in Evolution. This movie started off my summer, and it started off right. I wish it did better. I'd love to see this spread into a big franchise. Basically...I want toys. Every movie this summer had toys except Evolution. Oh well..all I can ask is that the cartoon does well..then we'd definitly get toys. It has officially replaced Ghostbusters, as my favorite Sci-Fi action Comedy. Great Googamooga!

#2. Jurassic Park 3- Just to remind anyone, Jurassic Park is my Star Wars. And now that it's a trilogy, It is my favorite trilogy of all time. There was nothing I didn't like about this movie. It didn't overstay it's welcome. It was fun. It didn't hide the fact that it was just a fun action movie. I loved it. Not to mention the toys are really fun. I dunno..just something about them..I can't stop playing with them. Oh well. Good movie!

#1. Planet of the Apes- Maybe it got the #1 spot because it's the most recent movie I've seen....or maybe it got #1 because it just plain kicked Butt? This movie was REALLY GOOD. The characters were all very enjoyable. The Man kissed an Ape! crazy! Then the hot girl kissed him(but he didn't kiss back). You think that's a Beastiality thing? like Animal rape? What do you think their kid would look like? Think the anatomy would fit? Hmmmmm....anyway..I got off subject.. This was a really great movie. While watching it, I really felt it was a big "step up" for Burton(one of my favorite directors of all time. I mean..c'mon..he did batman!!! the good batman!), But once the movie ENDED...you knew it was Burton. I don't know about anyone else, but the ending left me quite disoriented. It was twisted, sick, & very disturbing. That's what I love about Burton. But they want to make a Sequal....I fear that will suck..very much. I don't think you can really continue from that. & I don't think such a modernized Planet of the Apes would work. Oh well...
Planet of the Apes was Grade A fun. I'd really suggest it. But today, I was at Walmart, & I just realized..I had to buy the "Thade w/ Steed" toy, from the POTA toy line. While I was at it, I got the Leo figure. Lemmi just say this.:
Leo-for $10, I got Leo, with no leg articulation, moves at the waist, shoulders, next, & 1 weird elbo joint. And he looks like he's in a disco dancing competition. Not to mention, his accessories look like Hasbro was planning on making the like 3.4", but ended up going for 6". His gun is REALLY small.
Thade-for $20, I got Thade, who has a really great sculpt, standard articulation(ball joint shoulders, too), a helmet, neato sword, and a well sculpted horse, with gravel base. But, Thade was a mean, vicious character in the movie. His action figure sort of has a..smiley face. You'd have to buy it to see...anyway..

I'd say Thade & his horse was the only quality figure in the entire line. maybe Attar to. Everything else...eh'.

Oh well..that's the word from me.

Re: Top Summer Movies! What were the best?

    My List:

    5. The Mummy Returns - a decent followup to the movie. In the beginning, I wasn't to thrilled with the "Use the Kid as the Pawn" idea... but it did work out very nicely, which was surprising. And they didn't overload us with "The Rock" which I could thank them for. Overall it was an enjoyable movie that I will definitely buy the DVD for.

    4. JP 3 - Much better, and more believable than JP2, IMHO. The characters were fun to tag along with, and you could feel what the parents were going thru when their son was last, and what Dr. Grant was going through when his partner turn his back on him (only to eventually show his true good side)

    3. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within - decent story, the animation was good (tho there were a few spots where the mouths and voices weren't synced properly...). The story, while maintaining a sci-fi feel, still managed to be realistic, they were able to create characters that you could feel for.

    2. Shrek - A Fun movie. The voices were great, the story was great, the songs were great.... the whole movie was just great.

    1. A.I.: Artificial Intelligence - Quiet easily my favorite movie of the summer. It's a futuristic revamping of Pinnochio, without the Pinnochio ending. You can truly feel for what David is going through and hope he does succeed in his quest (even tho we know there's no way he will ever be able to come human). The movie just seemed to fly by. It felt very Kubrick-esque while remaining true to Spielburg, which is something that most directors who pick up someone elses movies can't really pull off. I will definitely be picking up this one on DVD

    Don't you people understand!?!

I haven't really seen a lot this summer, but the ones at the top of my list are:

    POTA
    Final Fantasy
    A.I.
    Atlantis
and (I know it's not really a summer release) J&SBSB

I saw Kiss of the Dragon opening night and I thought it was an awesome movie...

    1) Planet of the Apes
    2) The Mummy Returns
    3) The Fast and The Furious
    4) Atlantis
    5) Final Fantasy
    6) Jurassic Park 3
    7) Shrek
    8) A.I.

The first 4 I listed were VERY fun movies to watch. Fast and the Furious I listed cause I'm a Honda type car guy and I thought it was a great movie! It sure as hell surprised Universal. Currently it's at $124 million or something around that. Believe it or not, a sequel is in the works. Why? Cause the story ended with you wondering what happens to all the characters. Just a fun movie in my opinion.

Though my list here could change when Rush Hour 2, American Pie 2, Jay and Silent Bob, and Jeepers Creepers opens up. The latter I am looking forward to A LOT!

The summer will be nicely capped off with Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back.

My list would be relatively short, as I only went to the theater for one movie so far, and that's Shrek. I just don't go to the theater too often unless it is a movie I REALLY want to see.

J&SBSB is going to be awesome. I'm a big Kevin Smith fan, so I can't wait to see this one. I'd also like to see Rat Race, it looks like it'd be a pretty good movie. The second run movie theater in town has Mummy Returns, Evolution, and The Animal, so maybe I'll shell out a dollar tomorrow night and go see one of them...

My favourite was SHREK. I also loved "Blow", but I don't know if it can be considered a summer movie.
