I'm happiest about The New Guy, DJ Qualls career is now secure despite the bad preformances of some of the actors in the movie and it's semi-retarded pacing. I wonder what's next for him.
Sorry, ClownPrince. I know this is your thing, but I figured I have the time so I thought I'd put it up this week. I hope you don't mind. I'd still like to see the analzysis you put in your Box-Office post.
Anyways, 'Star Wars' showed considerable strenght this weekend by fending off four big movies and reaching the $200 million mark by it's second weekend, although 'Spider-Man' still holds the record for fastest movie to $100 million, $200 million, and now $300 million. It looks like both 'Spider-Man' and 'Star Wars' are on the healthy path to a $400 million+ plus overall gross. George Lucas has stated that his movie will have much longer legs than 'Spider-Man' but I'm not too sure about that. Spider-Man has been able to avoid the dreaded 50% + drop off for the past 4 weeks, and it will likely remain in the top five for a few more weeks yet. The summer movie wars gets really intense in the coming weeks, so it will be interesting to see how both movies fare. Here's the top ten for the weekend:
1. Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones - $61,200,000 ($202.5 mill)
2. Spider-Man - $36,500,000 ($334.3 mill)
3. Insomnia - $26,160,000 ($26.2 mill)
4. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron - $23,050,000 ($23.1 mill)
5. Enough - $17,500,000 ($17.5 mill)
6. About A Boy - $10,000,000 ($21.9 mill)
7. Unfaithful - $7,705,000 ($41,147,000 mill)
8. The New Guy - $5,500,000 ($24.5 mill)
9. Changing Lanes - $2,000,000 ($64.5 mill)
10. The Scorpion King - $1,863,000 ($87.9 mill)
Also, Spirit had the best opening weekend of a traditionally animated (not CGI) since 1999's Tarzan. I'm glad to see this movie have a good opening weekend. It'll be an uphill battle for it to reach $100 million dollars, but word of mouth may help this movie along. Also, after a long life in the top ten, it looks like we've seen the last of the successful The Scorpion King movie, which has had a long heathy life in the top ten, making more than double of it's $40 million production cost.
As for Insomnia...I'm glad to see this movie doing extremely well. The director behind Memento has weeved a great movie and Robin Williams does a great job going against cast. I recommend 110%.
Next Weekend we have the next Jack Ryan movie The Sum of All Fears starring Ben Affleck and the 'based-on-an-internet-cartoon' super-spy comedy Undercover Brother starring Eddie Griffin and Chris Kattan.

Am I the only one who finds it funny that Spider Man made more in two days than any of the movies on this list (except Star Wars) have in all the time they've been out?
No prob.Sorry, ClownPrince. I know this is your thing, but I figured I have the time so I thought I'd put it up this week. I hope you don't mind. I'd still like to see the analzysis you put in your Box-Office post.I partied a little too hard last night so I didn't get up until late.
Well, let's see, where too start. I'm still very impressed with how well Spider-Man is doing. It's definately gonna reach $400 million in at least 3 weeks at the most. As for Lucas' statement about his Star Wars having longer legs, I don't know. Fans have been very mixed about this film. I mean, I saw it opening day and really liked it, but I'm not in a hurry to go back and see it like I did Spider-Man. I couldn't wait to watch that one again. No doubt AOTC will reach $400 million, it will just take longer to do than Spider-Man. I think Spider-Man will gross more than AOTC. We'll all witness what happens with these two in the coming weeks.
I'm glad to see Insomnia doing well. I like Robin Williams and he's had nothing but bombs lately. Memento was a great movie and it's great to see the director of that having a better success at Insomnia (box office number wise) than Memento. I tried to go this weekend to see it, but couldn't make the time for it.
One movie I will NEVER see is Enough. I can tell exactly what will happen in the entire film just by watching the trailers. And I'm very sure the stalker ex-husband dies at the end in some fight between him and Lopez. It just comes off too much as a pro woman's movie. I don't know. Ugh.
A couple of the reviews I've read for Spirit have been pretty bad. While I'm glad to see a traditional animated film do this well, it seems to kiddy for me, but if it's gonna succeed, that's probably why. It's why I think Disney has not done too well over the years. Not that I mind, I prefer the more "grown up" movies they've done. But Spirit will be a DVD viewing for me.
Sum Of All Fears and Undercover Brother look really good. So I'll probably seeing one or both this coming weekend.

--when I first heard the title Insomnia I thought immediately of the Stephen King book of the same title. This doesn't apear to have anything to do w/ the novel...but I do want to see it. Looks like Robin Williams is going serious and making a celluloid apology for that Death to Smoochy thing....![]()
I thought Death To Smoochy was a hilariously dark and twisted little movie, but something the mainstream probably wouldn't touch (hence it's small box office return). Robin Williams is try some new things and so far he's been successful. I'm eager to see his next movie, One Hour Photo. As for Spirit, I saw it this past weekend and found it enjoyable. Alot of people were actually crying through some parts and there was a very awesome and very intense train sequence which looed very impressive.

Well you did leave out Pokemon: The First Movie (3 day $31,036,678, 5 day $50,754,104)
does that count, it is 2D, even though it is foreign animation.
Geeze, I totally forgot about that one! I guess I discounted it becuase it was anime. I don't think it counts becuase it's foreign (according to www.animated-movies.com).Originally posted by Hollywood53

Woo-hoo! Spirit didn't tank! Saw it yesterday and moderately enjoyed it. Big and gorgeous and no talking animals or cute sidekicks in sight. I do, however, have the urge to whack Bryan Adams upside the head with his own guitar.![]()
I'm very glad Star Wars AOTC and Spirit did well.
