The Super Bowl XLVI Entertainment/Half-Time Show Thread

    Like This Thread!

Super Bowl as an entertainment event continues to become more prominent with Nick Cannon hosting NBC's "red carpet" arrivals and acts like Lenny Kravitz and The Fray performing before we even enter Lucas Oil Stadium.

Once on the broadcast is on the field, Kelly Clarkson will sing the national anthem and Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert will sing "America The Beautiful". As officially announced in December, Madonna will perform at half-time.

Super Bowl XLVI Halftime show will feature Madonna
    By National Football League

Madonna, a multi Grammy Award-winning Universal Records recording artist, will perform in the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show on NBC on Sunday, Feb. 5, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the NFL and NBC announced at halftime of Sunday night's game between the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions. Madonna's performance will be imagined by Cirque Du Soleil and Jamie King.

The Bridgestone Super Bowl halftime show is the most-watched musical event of the year. More than 162 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year's show. The Super Bowl and halftime show will be broadcast worldwide.

Madonna joins an esteemed list of recent halftime acts that includes The Black Eyed Peas, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2.

A world class entertainer, singer, songwriter, producer, director, and video visionary, Madonna has sold more than 300 million records in the course of her three-decade career as The Material Girl. She is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Her last tour was the most successful tour by a solo artist in history. Madonna is currently in the recording studio working on a new album scheduled to be released next year. Her new film W.E., which she directed, wrote and produced, is opening in a limited one-week release Dec. 9 in Los Angeles and will open nationally on Feb. 3, two days prior to Super Bowl XLVI.

Madonna has partnered with a creative team from Cirque du Soleil, Jamie King, and multimedia artists from Moment Factory, to create a signature performance for the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show.

This year marks the fifth time Bridgestone Americas has sponsored the Super Bowl halftime show. The tire company's new brand campaign, fittingly titled "Time to Perform," will debut during the game.

The Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show is an NFL Network production and will be executive produced by Ricky Kirshner and directed by Hamish Hamilton.

Half time shows have been either a dinosaur of rock or the exact opposite of anything that will appeal to the usual football fan.
    This year we've got both.

I'll be staying away from this one harder then ever before.

At least last years was kind of funny.

Sounds like a nightmare I once had.

Superbowl Halftime shows are always terrible. The last good one was that Justin Timberlake/Janet Jackson performance, and that one was only good because we got to see some boob.
    And stay out of Riverdale!

Lots of Aaron Rodgers in the broadcast booth.
    I didn't expect that.
Maybe it's part of the prize for winning MVP.

Okay, did anyone else think "What's Opera, Doc" upon seeing Madonna's inital outfit during the halftime show?

Yeah, Madonna is pretty bad. Sigh.

......And for some reason LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., & Cee Lo Green are out here. We're just that closer from seeing the Biebs perform here.

Well, that was WAY better than last year's show with the Black Eyed Peas. But my favorite post-Janet Jackson halftime show still is Prince performing.

I liked it. I know Madonna was really nervous before the halftime show, but I think she did a good job.

Possibly, but when was the last time Madonna performed, before a packed stadium, during a sporting event? She'd have to be nervous, but then again, she handled it well. She wore a rather conservative outfit for her performance, but then again, she's got to show some of the younger performers how it's done, if you know what I mean. At nearly 54, she's still got it- she's the original flamboyant musical performer. That being said, and all due respect to her, I don't think Lady Gaga can even top Madonna's halftime performance, but that's just me.
Like it or not, I never apologize for being a fan of whomever they may be.

Someday, I'm gonna tell my kids that something like LMFAO was popular once, and they're never gonna believe me.

What was that second-to-last one she sang ("L-U-V! Madonna!")? I've never heard that one before.

This should be one for the "Am I the only one" thread, but I've never understood the near-universal male hatred for Madonna. Her songs are catchy. That's all I ask of someone who sings.

The new song didn't work for me at all. The rest was good...I really liked the Cleopatra entrance. Didn't know Cirque du Soleil was working on this. The dancing was terrific, and there were some classic Madge songs in there -> thumbs up!

Loved seeing LMFAO pop in and Ceelo sang well, but kind of annoys me.

She wasn't singing live was she? That was all lip-synching, I think....

Every halftime that's ever been has been lip-synched....or at least, it's more common than not.

Well for a bunch of rerecorded songs, they danced the heck out of them and the visuals were amazing.

Didn't particularly care for the halftime show, but apparently my choir director from last year was in the choir in her last number. Pretty cool.

You may as well ask what Reagan's chances of winning a second term are. It goes back that far.
It was a time I actually enjoyed pop music and she was a big reason I suddenly stopped listening to half the radio stations.

It was just a couple days ago I heard one of her new ones at a grocery store and it had me looking at the people working there and thinking how tough they have it t if they have to listen to that kind of noise all day. And I didn't even know it was her at first.
