The "WWE Superstars" Thread 2 (Spoilers)

You can still "Expect Everything" as WWE Superstars moves to WWE.com after its last episode on WGN America. Featuring action of both RAW and SmackDown, Superstars will go live on WWE.com every Thursday at 5 p.m. ET. Unlike NXT which streams at its scheduled time, I get the impression that this is the time the full video is available. The episode is not immediately available on YouTube or Hulu.

With the launch of this new thread, please join Scott Stanford & Josh Mathews and Jack Korpela & Matt Striker for all the action!

    April wrap-up

Still out of order for me, but I want to get caught up on some WWE and look at Superstars since it moved to WWE.com. As I said in my final WGN comments, I don't like having to watch the show this way. It's not horrible, but it takes more effort than just watching in on TV/DVR.

    April 14, 2011
One thing I found noticeable in this "premiere" episode is there were no WWE commercials, they announcers said they would be right back and the match returned immediately. This was 'corrected' the next week though.

Looking at this well after the fact makes commenting on it a little less interesting. Masters vs. Hawkins and Nattie/Gail vs. Melina/Maryse were fine and of course Khali beat Zack Ryder. Never a fan of that.

    April 21, 2011
No surprise that the announcers weren't in the arena for this one (even though they would like you to think they were). Josh was in England, but obviously Scott was not.

I was never big on Cryme Tyme and JTG, but it's amazing to me what a huge waste of space he has become. I won't advocate for him to lose his job, but clearly WWE has no idea/interest in how to use him. Tyler Reks isn't looking that much better (never has).

Maryse vs. Natalya was a nice follow-up to last week with the reverse winning.

I am just baffled at what has happened to Ted DiBiase. Mark Henry is not a questionable winner, but I thought we would seeing a lot more from Junior by now.

    April 28, 2011
I finally watched this one yesterday (so far behind) and it gave a nice contrast in where the former members of The Hart Dynasty is at with the three members of the next generation of Harts is all three matches.

First, we had Tyson Kidd beating Trent Barreta. This was my favorite match to watch and while it could have got either way, I think the scales would tilt toward Tyson. Kidd has been a talker in the ring since his debut and even if his boos are added in post, he displays his personality all the way to the ring and once inside it. He wasn't bad at being a face, but I felt it wasn't as good of a fit for him.

Then we had David Hart Smith making a rare appearance on WWE TV, apparently after stealing JBL's cowboy hat. I want to support the son of the British Bulldog, but I find D.H. so bland and generic I can hardly stand the sight of him. That hat and the cartoony Hogan leg drop during the match just made it worse. Very happy Zack Ryder won this match.

Finally Natalya was in the main event once again teaming with Gail Kim. The daughter of The Anvil being in this spot is not a coincidence as she is poised to be the breakout star of this once proud trio. I am honestly hoping that her presence can help protect her boyfriend Tyson Kidd was being cut. She didn't get the pinfall here, but still got the win over Alicia & Melina.

    May 5 & 12, 2011

Anyone for the last two weeks of Superstars? (I am begging you, I am the only one to post since it went online.) I have been pretty happy with the last two episodes.

    May 5, 2011
It's always nice to see Trent Barreta get a win even if it's at the expense of the no better off on SmackDown Jey Uso. I hope SmackDown is better for The Usos. Even if they keep losing singles matches on Thursday afternoons, it can't get any worse than RAW was.

Really enjoyed the feature on That's What I Am at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. Sounds like the movie is well-regarded.

I enjoyed the finish of the Beth-Melina match with Melina missing and doing the splits which led to the Glam Slam. Nicely done, ladies.

And I was so happy to see Evan Bourne wrestle on Superstars and get a win. He was a big part of ECW every week, they ought to at least put him in the ring at some point during the week.

    May 12, 2011
"Ladies & gentlemen, the name is Michael P.S. Hayes and I am back in this business because this business needs me back..."

If you don't normally watch Superstars, I really want you to follow the link and watch the first five minutes. I'll wait...

...Did you watch it? Good. Okay, so I am thrilled to see Michael Hayes by Tyson Kidd's side. I think Tyson brings a lot to the table and a manager might help put him over the top and get him moving up the SmackDown midcard. The head writer being that manager might help out too. No two weeks in a row for Trent Barreta though.

Very excited to see Curt Hawkins help his former Tag Team Championship partner Zack Ryder get a win over Kozlov. I made note of these two being on the same brand in my Supplemental Draft comments and it's exciting to see them possibly on the road to reuniting.

More love for the SmackDown Rebound. Nice.

Enjoyed the Masters-McIntyre match and was pleasantly surprised to see The Masterpiece get the win after the beating he took from D-Mac (especially his leg). Very worthy main event.

I still miss Savannah (Angela Fong), but FCW's Brandi Reed is easily the best Diva ring announcer they have had since in just her first week on the job.

I forgot to put my 2 cents in on last weeks episode, but Tyson /kidd and Barreta was a good match.I'm not familiar with Michael P.S Hayes but I don't think he could be manger material or atleast not Kidd's, butif it's to give Kidd a pushI'd be intrested in where it goes.

Hawkins and Ryder reuniting was a good idea. hope both of these individuals get a push from teaming up again.

I enjoyed seeing Hayes & Kidd kick off Superstars again. Hayes hit it out of the park again with his "ambition" promo. I was disappointed to see Tyson lose to Yoshi and concerned when Hayes helped him up and then punched him down. I hope we see Hayes with Kidd again and this was just a 'teaching a lesson' type thing.

Would have liked to see Ryder & Hawkins get the win in their first match back together as a team. Hopefully, this feud with Santino & Kozlov continues in subsequent weeks, maybe even making it to RAW.

Always happy to see Evan Bourne make a TV appearance. When he isn't going to be used on RAW, he should at least be on Superstars. Obviously I would have preferred to see him beat McIntyre, but I'll still take it.

I recommend Hayes' Wikipedia page which seems pretty solid. You can read this there, but if you are more a WWE fan than anything, you may best know him as the shocked guy standing next to Stone Cold Steve Austin during his "3:16" speech. Hayes is the SmackDown head writer and as a WWE manager in 1999 was (on-screen) behind the change the switched The Hardy Boyz from plaid tight-wearing (mostly) jobbers to the jeans/cargo pants & shirts they still wear a version of today.

    May 26 & June 2, 2011

If you aren't catching Superstars, you are missing out on Tyson Kidd vs. Trent Barreta and it is certainly worth your time...

    May 26, 2011
The sure seem to show ring announcer Brandi Reed a lot for her name to never appear on the screen. Wassupwidat?

Always prefer to see Zack Ryder win, but I am happy to see him on TV somewhere. I still need to get in on the Z! True Long Island Story. I was going to watch it today, but then Safari freaked out on me and I lost the videos I'd loaded. Getting back to the match, I liked how the Cobra was fully established as a nerve attack when Ryder had trouble with his legs. It's a little less ridiculous that way.

The Macho Man video isn't quite the same without "The Scientist." Still touching, just not as deep.

Well, at least one half of the former Major Bros. got a win with Curt Hawkins besting JTG. This seemed to pretty much be too heels here. Hawkins might have gotten a slightly positive reaction, I wasn't sure.

Pretty neat seeing Armando Alejandro Estrada return at the side of Tyson Kidd. I can understand Estrada being more serious than he was the last time, but I was disappointed he didn't fully go for it when he said his name. At least just this first time, I would have loved to have heard "My name es Armando Alejandro Estrada!"

Perhaps Tyson was well to be rid of Michael Hayes as he got the win the less flamboyant Estrada (both compared to Hayes and compared to the old version).

    June 2, 2011
With success last week, I was surprised to see Tyson Kidd had traded Estrada for Matt Striker. Booker T & Jack Korpela certainly did, but let's not forget that before he became a commentator, Striker was the manager for Big Daddy V (Viscera) in ECW (and to a certain extent SmackDown's Mark Henry when the two big men formed an alliance). Striker unintentionally got his revenge though when he correctly stated that Jack can barely put a sentence together, but kept his job because he had an agent. Unless he picks one, I'm expecting to see maybe Slick or another WWE Legend next week (though I don't think we can hear "Jive Soul Bro" on an Internet show should it come up).

I like Booker T, but I laughed so hard I had to stop, go back watch it again and then just take a break for a minute during the Corre-Usos match. When I believe it was Jey got crotched on the top turnbuckle, Booker said, "Man, he's gonna be singing a cappella after that one." Read what he said very carefully.

The RAW Rebound this week was just excellent. It really across where Truth's head is at.

With The Nexus vs. Santino & Kozlov as the main event it was a pretty good night for tag team wrestling. It's kind of exciting.

The following is a repost, my comments follow the official show preview...

Anyone (at all) for Superstars this week? Pretty please?

    Rising Stars
Yoshi Tatsu returns to "WWE Superstars" for a rematch against Tyson Kidd. Has the Hart Dungeon-trained Superstar signed with Matt Striker Management or is he still seeking the right manager? Watch this match and more Thursday at 5 ET/2 PT on WWE.com!

    My thoughts are already below...

    With sugar on top?

I really enjoyed the opening match. Masters pulling JTG out of the corner with the Master Lock was perfect.

With the RAW Divas tag match lasting right about 2:30 I was curious as Maryse & Melina made their way to the ring how long this match was going to last. I actually timed it and from bell-to-bell, they beat Gail Kim & Eve in right about 3:45.

The "WWE PPV Alert" is still better than the announcers 'wondering what that would be like'.

Mark Henry waiting for Johnny Curtis and the NXT Season Four winner never coming seemed to parallel this CageSideSeats.com story about Henry being left out to dry last week after SmackDown was over. Henry's interview with Striker and quoting his theme song establishes him as a monster, but it mostly made Curtis look like a coward. If there were to continue, I'd like to learn that The World's Strongest Man is assaulting these guys backstage before they make it to the ring to build his rep.

I noticed that when Vickie ran to her resume before introducing Tyson Kidd she didn't mention Eric Escobar. I believe Harvey Wippleman is the only full-time WWE employee left that is best known on-screen as a manager, so you'd have to think we're going to see him soon.

Because Vickie certainly didn't work out for Kidd, who lost a competitive match to Yoshi Tatsu. I don't know about anyone else (quite literally), but I am really enjoying this Superstars-centric storyline.

    I'll throw my cents in.

WWE's Raw roster was in Long Island this week. Zack Ryder opened up the show with a promo, followed by a victory over Primo.

It was fun. As someone who hopes WWE does something with him eventually (if only for his effort to try) it was an exciting moment to see everybody's favorite Broski have his big moment, even if it didn't happen on Monday Night.

The love for Ryder in the Coliseum was audible all night long. Guy even cut a face promo about how happy he was to be there. Hopefully WWE Creative does something with him, because it's obvious something is there.

Comments are made with no knowledge of Capitol Punishment results, please remember our policy on future spoilers.

    Yay, people!

My original preview post was lost in the server move, so I did some creative post copying. Anyway…

After he was left off of RAW, I was very happy to see Zack Ryder at least given a chance to interact with his hometown crowd on Superstars. The comments above me give me the impression that it was longer, but I liked his promo. I find it odd that Scott Stanford spent so much time on the former alliance between Ryder & Primo. I don’t recall if there was an actual reason, but they had split what feels like quite a while ago. Heck, when I put them in a tag match together on SmackDown vs. RAW 2011 (looking for their teaming to form an alliance rather than my creating it) Primo walked out on Ryder so that obviously didn’t work.

Watching one of the less insufferable Obama press conferences, I am wondering if it would have been better to book an impersonator who could actually interact with the fake reporters and Superstars. I suppose that hurts part of the alleged joke, but it might have worked.

Drew McIntyre trying to call himself “The Great American Nightmare” is like a bad dream. Of course I’m sure he wishes he could wake up from his ‘remember two years ago when I was ‘The Chosen One’’ promo. At least he beat Vladimir Kozlov. I find myself softening on my semi-dislike of McIntyre a bit, but that’s probably because he’s not overshadowing heels I like better (see Rhodes, Cody; also Ziggler, Dolph).

It was neat to see an NXT follow-up with Yoshi Tatsu facing off against Chavo Guerrero. Remember when the Rookies followed their Pros everywhere? I think Chavo could have used the assist.

I have been loving Tyson Kidd’s search for a manager, but What The Hart Foundation was JTG doing there in a suit coat?! That says to me that they are out of people (I was waiting for Harvey Wippleman, I wonder if that means my RAW comments are prophetic rather than speculative?) to use for this role or they couldn’t book one of the many available legendary managers for the spot this week. I couldn’t believe Striker suggested that JTG could “give Tyson a touch of the streets.” How well did that work out for Jacob Novak?

Tyson was no match for the much bigger Kane, so I don’t think there is much of a chance that Tyson will decide his search is over and that the man William Regal accurately described as a ‘pathetic attempt at a Superstar’ is the one to go with. The guy isn’t even a manager.
