Top Movies for 7/6 - 7/8
Rather close among the top this week... can definitely see be the numbers that the top two movies ain't gonna last... but will movies like AI show their staying power? Only time will tell, especially with the titles coming out in the next few weeks...
1. Cats & Dogs -- $21,670,000 (-)
2. Scary Movie 2 -- $21,000,000 (-)
3. A.I.: Artificial Intelligence -- $14,145,000 (1)
4. Kiss of the Dragon -- $13,640,000 (-)
5. The Fast & The Furious -- $12,400,000 (2)
6. Dr. Dolittle 2 -- $10,100,000 (3)
7. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider -- $6,800,000 (4)
8. Shrek -- $6,000,000 (7)
9. Atlantis -- $5,000,000 (6)
10. Baby Boy -- $4,800,000 (5)
It's official... Pearl Harbor has officially sunk... and looks like Atlantis is slowly returning to the sea while Shrek is still holding on... with the numbers this close, I don't think C&D and SM2 will stay where they are for very long...
Don't you people understand!?!

Well, I am pretty sure word of mouth will at least kill SM2's run at the top, and I estimate C&D will do a predictable 30-50% dropoff. A.I lost about half their business from the previous week, and with Final Fantasy about to become the next big sci-fi effects extravaganza this week, it might drop off some more. Geez, who would have thought when the summer began that with all the hype and the influence of Spielburg and Kubrick, that A.I might do worse box office than "The Fast and the Furious" which pased $100 million already. Of course, those same people who thought opposite also thought Pearl Harbor would make a run at Titanic box office record, case closed.
Final Fantasy is probably gonna make plently of money with it being the first adult CGI film, and it's also the second straight new film Alec Baldwin has done a voiceover for. The other new big film "The Score" should at least do something the first week with the promise of Robert DeNiro, Edward Norton, and Marlon Brando in the same film. We'll at least know in the next few weeks if aliens can still draw people in, or if the pioneers for big CGI effects, dinosaurs, can hold them back. But then of course, the ones lying and waiting for about 25 years, the apes, will make a play for the bookoo bucks.

Funny you should mention SCARY MOVIE 2's possible Top Ten fall. Why you ask? Becuase Scary Movie 3 has been greenlighted by Dimension Films.

Scary Movie 3?
I wonder what Stern Whack Pack regular they'll get for that one? Baba Booey? High-Pitch Eric? Hank the Angry Drunken Dwarf? Bridget the Midget? Jenna Jameson? [slavers; wipes mouth]
Though I'll admit I'll watch this one just to see the Exorcist parody, then probably say Leslie Neilson and Linda Blair did it better in Repossessed....
